PARISH NEWS THEME: JESUS’ LAST THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE FOCUSED ON HIS DISCIPLES AS HE PREPARES TO FACE THE CROSS. In preparing His disciples for when He will no longer be with them, Jesus encourages them by prayer. This is His hour of glorification, but it is equally their hour too. While Jesus is ready to embrace the work of redemption, He knows His disciples will have their faith shaken. So, His prayer reassures them that they will share His glory because they already belong to Him by faith. LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading from Acts recalls how after the Ascension, the disciples return to Jerusalem and gather together in continuous prayer as they await the coming of the Holy Spirit. The second reading reminds us that when we suffer, we share in the sufferings of Christ. In the Gospel, taken from the farewell discourse, Jesus prayers for His disciples as the time for His glorification draws near. STEWARDSHIP: “I am praying for them…” JOHN 17:9. Prayer is the foundation of our Faith and the foundation of Stewardship. Pray in good times and in bad. Prayer is always the first best option in any situation, not just the last resort. Pray for friends and family and for those that don’t treat you very well. Pray to give praise, to thank and to ask God for help. Pray to see what God wants you to do with the gifts He has given you. A Family Perspective May 28, 2017: The Ascension of the Lord by Bud Ozar: As Jesus appointed apostles, He also appoints parents to represent Him in the family; “make disciples of your children, baptizing and teaching them all I have taught you. Don’t worry, I am with you always.” A Family Perspective – May 29, 2017: Memorial Day by Bud Ozar: Our decisions create our style of living and also what kind of person we are. That’s the awesome power of free will. As we celebrate Memorial Day, it is a good time to ask ourselves; “How do I want to be remembered?” The power is in your hands, or rather in your decisions. THROUGH THE WATERS OF BAPTISM: We welcome to St. Stephen Parish and the Catholic faith, Alaina Elizabeth Bojadich, daughter of Brian and Brittany (Slanina) Bojadich, who is being baptized this weekend after the 4:30 p.m. Mass.
