Gdańsk fascinates with its rich 1000 years of history – starting from a Christianizing journey of St. Adalbert to Prussia in 997, the membership in the Hanseatic League, the elitist union of merchants from the Baltic and North Sea in XVII century or the beginning of the Solidarity in the year 1980. The town moves our hearts with plenty of romantic stories about tragic love, bravery and wisdom of worldwide known people of science, who were born here. It attracts with the richness of nature and care for the green areas. The city is biker-friendly, what really makes people feel like heaven. It still opens for New Dreams about the European Solidarity Centre. It develops and becomes more impressive and smart every day. The Gdańsk organism keeps on intriguing all guests and citizens and will never stop doing this. Plan of the visit: Royal Way – from Green Gate through the Long Market, the Main City Hall, Artus’ Court, Neptune's Fountain, Long Street with XVII c. tenement houses (Uphagen, Ferber, Czirenberg houses), Golden Gate; Prison and Torture Tower XVII c. – nowadays Amber Museum; Coal Market and Great Armoury; Basilica of Saint Mary – the biggest brick gothic shrine worldwide, and cosy Mariacka Street with the colorful history of amber. In one of amber galleries we are able to see amber polishing art presentation; Long Embankment along Motława river with Gdansk Crane. Please note, that the plan of the visit may change due to unforeseeable circumstances, without any fault of the Organizing Committee.
Guided excursion to Malbork Castle of the Teutonic Order
Please note once again, that at the time of registration, Participants are asked to submit a declaration on the participation in excursion to Malbork Castle before 13:00 on Tuesday, September 8th, 2015.
The excursion will take place on Saturday, September 12th, 2015 – 09:00 – 14:00, the meeting point of the tour will be revealed during the Congress. Buses for the Participants will be provided, starting from 09:00.
Malbork is located 60 km from Gdańsk and attracts more than half million visitors every year. They come to see the biggest medieval fortress in Europe – the Teutonic Knights Castle. We propose visiting this unique place, which construction started in 1274 and for more than 150 years served as the capital of the theocratic state, governed by the Teutonic Knights, and the home of Grand Master. After one of the greatest battles in Medieval history near the village of Grunwald in 1410, the castle was annexed by Polish Kingdom. In 1772 it was taken from Poland by Prussia. During WWII the castle served as a war prison camp, Stalag XX B, where 30000 prisoners were held. In 1945 much of the castle was laid in ruins, but after years of restoration on the 1st of January 1961, the castle and its museum were officially opened and in 1997 the castle was put on the UNESCO World Heritage List. On the way from Gdańsk we admire the beautiful region of Poland – Żuławy Wiślane (Vistula Lowlands).
