When your child is arriving late to school you need to send a note with them or ring the school to explain why they are late otherwise it will be recorded as an unexplained late arrival. School Security Hotline With the holidays coming up, we’d appreciate your support in calling the School Security Hotline on 1300 880 021 if you see anyone in our school grounds. Our GA Kim will be at school on Wednesdays but other than that no one should be on site (except Mrs Clark to feed Paxton). We appreciate your support in this matter.

Ice Blocks are sold everyday at second break for students who may want to purchase one. We sell Zooper Doopers for 50 cents each. All profits are part of the Year 6 fundraising effort.

Mathematics

In maths we are learning about time – in particular months and seasons. The children are learning about when their birthday is, and to name and order the months. As the month changes, we have been talking about what comes next, and linking this to the season we are in and the way the weather changes. We have also been revising fractions. The focus has been has been on consolidating the understanding of a half of an object for and a quarter and eighth of an object. At home, cooking and food preparation are good opportunities to practise this concept eg ‘I can cut your toast in half in triangles OR rectangles.’

Literacy Groups

Literacy groups continue to be a favourite in our class. This is evident each morning when the children excitedly ask ‘Are we having literacy groups today?’ Reading is very much the core of our work in K/1 – thank you for reading with your children at home. Please feel free to see me if you would like to take some extra books home to read with your child over the holidays.
