PawPrints Magazine's HOMELESS COVER MODEL

My always-wagging tail tells you what a happy boy I am! And since I

got my wheels, nothing slows me down! I’m Howie, a handsome,

1-year-old Border Collie who hopes I’ll find true love (and a new family)

this Valentine’s Day. When I was a puppy,

something very bad happened to my back. I can’t put weight on my rear legs, but I can still move them and I have control of all of my bathroom functions. And with my custom-made wheels, I run and play just like other dogs, maybe even better! In fact, two of my favorite things are playing fetch and going for a swim! I am up to date on all of my

shots, take a monthly heartworm preventative pill, and am neutered. The kind veterinarian who

rescued me even arranged for physical therapy to build up the muscles in my legs, and had me

checked out by a surgeon. Sadly, surgery can’t help. What can make all the difference is finding a

home of my own, where I will be loved just the way I am. Since I’ve never lived in a real home before, I’ll need a little help with house-training. But I’m smart and eager to please, so I should catch on quickly. If you can offer me the home of my dreams, call

Furever Friends Animal Rescue at 910-383-2100 or email [email protected]. They can

tell you all about me and direct you to a video online that shows me playing fetch! In closing, I’d like to thank Dick Parrott for taking my Valentine portrait.

Could the future love of my life be reading this?

Is your family looking for a German Shepherd who is house-trained, non-destructive, crate-trained and obedience trained? Would you

love to take a daily stroll with a noble beauty by

your side? Do you have a child who would love to have an eager dog to play fetch with?

If so, look no further as you are the family that I’m looking for! My name is Nena and I'm estimated to be 8-years-old. Due to my maturity, I have a lot to offer my forever

family. I still enjoy light daily walks to stay in good shape. I get along well with other dogs and love children. I would love to have a child of my very own to throw me the ball

because even though I’m 8 - I still love to play fetch. When not playing fetch or enjoying my walks, I love to carry around my favorite pink stuffed animal. If I sound

like the girl who completes your family, then please email Noble Shepherd Rescue at [email protected] or call

843-858-3831. Hope to meet you soon.

Hello, friends! I’m Norm, a super-sweet boy with a loving heart. And I’m so glad to be

on the search for a new home! When SOAR first met me, I was tied to a chain in

the back yard, with no food or water to be found. My owner had moved away and left me there. Now that I’m at SOAR,

I’m melting hearts with my loveable personality. I’m so happy to finally be given some attention! I’m a 1-year-old Golden Retriever/Yellow Lab mix who is neutered, vacci-nated and on heartworm prevention. I’m a big boy at 75

pounds, but I know how to sit on command (check out my pic!) and I take treats so gently from your fingers. I haven’t

yet played with the other dogs at the shelter, but I’ve shown no aggression to them when they walk outside my kennel. I’ll be a fabulous friend for some lucky person or family. Please call SOAR at 910-457-6340 - they can tell

you how to get here and we can become good friends. Who knows, we just might be a match made in heaven!

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange

in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

URGENT, URGENT! We Need to Find Homes Soon! Hi there, my name is Page and

this is my best friend Coal. We’ve lived in a home together

for many years and are so sad to be searching for a new place to lay our heads. It would be won-

derful to be adopted together, but we can be adopted separately if

we each go to a loving home. I’m an 8 to 9-year-old female Shep-

herd mix and I’m a 95 pound teddy bear. Coal is an 8-year-old male Lab mix with an easy smile and a loving personality. We are house-trained, obedient and ea-ger to please. We love going for

walks, playing with children above the age of six and we have

lived harmoniously with a cat. We would be great compan-ions for anyone. We are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccina-tions and on heartworm preven-

tion. I do take glucosamine for some arthritis in my hips, but I am responding well. Because we’ve lived in a home all our lives, we have great house manners and are well-

adjusted, social, friendly dogs. Would you please consider adopting one of us? Or perhaps both? We promise to give

you so much love and so much companionship! You’ll never be lonely again. Please call the Sunburst Foundation

at 910-622-0011 or email [email protected] for

more information. Hope to meet you soon!

URGENT, URGENT!! I’m Running Out

of Time!! If my sad brown eyes could talk, I’m sure they’d be say-ing, “Won’t you help me?”

My name is Beth (CF3233)and I’m sorry to say that

Santa Claus must not have heard my Christmas wish.

You see, I’ve been sitting at the shelter since December 2010 and my time here is growing short. There are

just too many animals arriv-ing, and not enough places to put them all. I was hoping a family would come along for me, but it’s already the sec-

ond month of 2011. Could Valentine’s Day be a good day for me? I’m a beautiful Black Lab girl who is very well be-

haved. I will sit on command and I can even catch treats in my mouth! Just toss one over and gulp, it’s gone. I was

found as a stray in Burgaw, but someone must have once loved me as I didn't learn how to sit on my own! I enjoy being hugged and rubbed and would love the chance to meet you in person. Please call Pender County Animal

Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196 and let’s make this Valentine’s Day a true day of love.

I am sponsored by Kathy Lanio. Thank you!

►My name is Summer and I am a sweet little girl. I was adopted from Animal Control but returned to the shelter when I tested positive for

heartworms. I am so pretty with my sleek and shiny coat. I weigh

around 40 pounds so I am one of those little black Labs. I am spon-sored by Monica Bennett (she paid

my adoption fee to get me out of the shelter). Thanks Monica! I am a

friendly girl and I love people, but I may be best suited in a home without other dogs. I am a little defensive around them when I am on a leash. I walk

really well on a leash though and I hardly pull at all. Adopt-an-ANGEL is paying for my heartworm treatment so there

is no cost to my adopter. However, if you would like to help pay for my treatment, you can donate to my cause at www.adoptanangel.net or you can mail a check to Adopt-An-ANGEL at P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408.

►My name is Spike and they are not sure of my breed. How-ever, I am a hand-

some boy with grey, tan and black mark-

ings. I would make a good companion for

some human out there! I don't pull on the leash or act crazy at all. I have a mod-erate energy level. I am neutered, up to date on my shots,

and heartworm nega-tive. I am crate-

trained, too. I can't believe I ran out of time at a local Ani-mal Control, but I did. Please don't let me languish in

homelessness anymore.

◄My name is Callie and I have been homeless for a year now.

It's really sad because I am a very sweet girl. I am so pretty and

dainty, too. I have been going to adoption fairs at Petco every

weekend, all year long, and no one has adopted me yet. I have even lived in the cages at Petco for months on end, too. Won't

anyone out there just say enough is enough and give me a home? I can't even remember why I am homeless anymore. At the fairs, I sometimes

become overwhelmed and frightened and quite honestly - I am tired of being homeless and going to fairs trying to

impress people who only move past me to look at kittens. I am waiting for that special someone who will just take me by my paw and rescue me. Just reach out and touch my

dainty face and tell me it's ok.

These babies came out of Brunswick

County Animal Services at

3 to 4-weeks-old. There are 7 puppies and

Jasmine, the mother, and they are sponsored (covered adoption fee out of Animal Control) by

Cathy Ledbetter in honor of Win Keagy, a baby boy himself. Puppies this young would not have

survived at the shelter. They are too young to be vaccinated against the fatal diseases that other

homeless animals may bring in and with no immune system to fight, they would surely die a horrible

death. Given this fact, most shelters are forced to humanely euthanize them instead. Please don't

drop puppies and kittens off at shelters if they are younger than 12-weeks-old. Adopt-An-ANGEL took

these guys into foster care. They will be available for adoption around mid February.

Adopt-An-ANGEL will have 20 other puppies available throughout the month of February, too.

◄My name is Piper and I am a friendly, fun little boy! I weigh around 10 to 15 pounds so I am perfect for apartment living, if needed. I am

friendly with other animals and I like to play. I was adopted from Animal

Control but was returned to the shel-ter when I tested positive for heart-worms. I am being sponsored by

Allison O'Day in memory of Sassy. She paid my adoption fee to get me out of the shelter, saving my life. Adopt-an-ANGEL is raising the funds to pay for my

heartworm treatment. If you would like to contribute, you can donate online at www.adoptanangel.net or you can mail a

check to Adopt-An-ANGEL at P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408. Thank you!

Any Sheltie lovers out there? How

about Collie lovers? You’ll be happy to

know that I may be a mixture of those two breeds. Whatever I am, I’m simply ador-

able! My name is Carrot (A036925)

and I’m a 5-year-old red-haired girl with a loveable personality that will be sure to melt your heart. At

just 35 pounds, I’m a perfect size - not too big and not too

small. I’d fit perfectly in an apartment, condo or house. I’m a happy and friendly

girl who loves to be rubbed and hugged. I also enjoy treats and will take them gently from your fingers. I was

found as a stray with another dog who may have been my brother. Since I got along so well with him, it’s believed

that I’d play well with other dogs. When I was taken to the playroom for my photo, I showed friendly interest to the

other dogs in the kennels, not a bit of aggression. Would you please come meet me? It’s a safe bet that you’ll fall

in love! Call Brunswick County Animal Control at 910-754-8204 and tell them you’re on your way!

I am sponsored by Adam’s Folly Pet Boarding,

◄URGENT, URGENT! My time is

running out! Come meet me and I promise you’ll fall in love! My name is Clarice (A035067)

and I just can’t understand why I

haven’t yet found a family. I’m a calm, laid-back, loveable

girl who is so hapy to see visitors at my

cage door. I’m not one of those shy,

aloof kitties. I enjoy receiving attention

and am always ready to interact with you. Bring a toy or feather to the shelter and watch me play! I’m a 1-year-old

Tabby who was found as a stray. PLEASE adopt me!

►I have the head of a Yellow Lab and the body of a Corgi! It all adds up to one adorable dog. I’m

Jackson (A036975), a gen-tle, calm, affectionate boy.

When you come to my ken-nel, I may seem shy, but please take me into the

playroom so you can see how I truly am. I instantly respond to kindness and

attention - I’m just not used to shelter life and want to be part of a family! I’m 1-year-old, friendly to other dogs, and can sit on command. I’ll be your very best friend.

►Do you love Basset Hounds? Then hop in the

car and come meet me! My name is Ronnie (A037131)

and I’m a 2-year-old boy who was found as a stray. Right

now, I’m too thin and my ribs are showing. I had a great time during my photo shoot because they gave me lots of treats. I’m looking for a

family who will pamper and love me and put some meat

on my bones! I’m friendly, affectionate and ready to be

the love of your life.

◄I’m the perfect bed partner! I love sleeping under blankets, as you can see from my photo. It’s not that I’m hiding - I’m as friendly and social as can be - I just love to snuggle and stay warm. I’m a 3-year-old girl named Reece (A037139) and I was found as a stray. I’m so happy to meet people at my cage door and will give very loving headbutts to your hands. Take me home!

►Hello there! My name is Willie (A036927) and I’m a medium-sized boy who gives the sweetest, most

gentle kisses - even to someone I’ve just met! At

5-years-old, I was found as a stray with another dog, so

it’s safe to say I get along well with other canines.

They tell me I may be mixed with Spaniel or Lab

and I’m already vaccinated. I enjoy eating treats, being

rubbed and making new friends. Come on over!

►Small, sweet dog alert! My name is Chloe (A035617)

and I’m the perfect family companion! I’m already spayed and house-trained

and will even make a noise that sounds

like ‘out’ when I have to go. I play well with

other dogs, enjoy toys and rawhides

and I LOVE all people - men,

women and kids. I’m a happy, fun, playful,

affectionate girl, perhaps a mix of

Italian Greyhound and Min Pin. I am just 1-year-old and a mere 15 pounds. I can sit on command and I give the sweetet kisses in the world. I’ll make you so happy!!

How about a wink and a kiss? My name is

Mini Moo because my markings look like a milk cow, although I’m much prettier. I am a 2½-year-old spayed female with lots of love and energy.

I would prefer to live inside because I have very short hair and get

cold easily. I am house-trained and like my

crate, I know several commands (sit, down

and come) plus I’m great on a leash. I love to play ball and enjoy long walks. My only fault is that I don’t always like other dogs or cats.

That’s how I lost my first home, I didn’t play well with the other dogs. My foster home has lots of other dogs, too - so I don’t have the freedom I need and deserve. I am looking for an active home where I can be the only pet.

Please call Amy at 910-253-0501 for more information or to set up a time to meet me.

I am sponsored by Francesca Slaughter in loving

memory of Casper and Lucy.

Hello! My name is Gracie and, at 10-years-old, I’m hoping to find a special

person or family who will bring me back to the home environment where I be-

long. I once lived in a lov-ing home, then everything changed. My owner be-

came ill and could no longer look after me.

There was no one else to take me in and I was

brought to Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue (SOAR). It’s quite a

change to go from a comfy home with familiar sights and sounds to the strange surroundings of an animal shelter. I’m an affectionate girl who enjoys receiving attention - I like to be held and will happily snuggle up in your arms.

I’m also spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. There’s no doubt that I would make someone very happy with my

purring, pleasing personality. If you’d like to meet me, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340. They can give you very easy directions and I’ll be so happy to greet you!

I am sponsored in loving memory of Speckles.

Love Connection Love Connection

Where Is He Now?

Mr. Kitty, re-named Riley, featured in January 2010

“I always look at Paw Prints,” says Kathleen Gray, “and I saw ‘Mr. Kitty’ in a picture on the New Hanover Humane Society’s page. I was looking for an adult cat with personality and that is how he was described.” Kathleen decided to meet the Tabby, but also wanted to see the other cats that were there. After two shelter visits, how-ever, the decision was made. “I kept being drawn to him,” she recalls. “And, as one of the staff members said, he chose me!” Re-named Riley, the young male Tabby has indeed been living the life of Riley for the past year. Here, Kathleen tells why this adoption has been one of the best decisions she’s ever made: “I call him a love sponge. He just can’t get enough loving! He likes to be nearby and, if I sit down, he is in my lap immediately. I even try to very quietly sit down in

the living room and he can be in an-other room and he comes running! He has a most endear-ing trait of putting both paws around my neck and hug-ging me. He is also a great ‘talker’. When I come

home, he will chatter up a storm and rub against me until I pick him up and greet him the way he wants to be greeted. I do yoga stretches every day and he is always on the floor with me. He has his own version of the ‘cat pose’, loves ‘child pose’, and refuses to do the ‘down dog’ pose!

His favorite place - other than my lap - is his cat perch/climbing tree. It was the best investment I made for him. I have it in a corner with two windows and he can watch all the activity in the back yard, including a bird feeder and lots of birds. He was found as a stray, so he has known the outdoor world, but he has adjusted well to his life indoors. He often races through the house and takes a flying leap onto his perch. The funniest story happened at Christmas time. Friends from Maine who have four of their own cats sent me a package. I opened it up and inside were about six small wrapped packages. I had no sooner pulled the gifts out of the box when Riley came running up, grabbed one of the packages without hesitation and proceeded to tear it apart, ribbon and all! It was funny to watch and I grabbed my camera. The funniest part is when he pulled out the catnip lobster claw toy inside. He knew it was his present, and he can’t even read! I called my friends immediately and told them the story. We all had a great laugh! A friend of mine calls pets ‘earth angels’. They are here to protect us and give us love. I believe that is very true. My career has been as a massage therapy educator, and I know that every being is part of an energetic field. Our bodies are composed of atoms, and atoms are energy. Pets have a way of calming and neutralizing that energy. Their energy is usually calm and loving. They don’t have as much that stresses them out! A friend gave me a book called ‘Guardians of Being’ by Eckhart Tolle for Christmas. It’s a very special book about pets and their role as teachers in our lives. They show us how to slow down, savor and enjoy the simple beauty of the moment. The last paragraph of the book reads, ‘We are ultimately not separate, not from one an-other nor from any living thing - the flower, the tree, the

cat, the dog. You can sense yourself in them, the essence of who you are. You could say God. There is a term, a Christian term which is beauti-ful...loving the creator in the creature.’ If we could all adopt this feeling, we would have peace on earth. Riley brings great love into my life and is a constant re-minder to be more aware and enjoy each moment of life!”

“He certainly is unique,” says Kathleen, pictured with Riley.

Riley tore into his Christmas gift (top) and was rewarded with a Catnip Lobster Claw (bottom.).

◄Gosh, you’re so tall and I’m so little! My name is Marty and I’m a male Tabby kitten who has still got some growing to do. I was found on 4th Street in Wilmington with my brother and sister. Now I’m well on my way to making someone very happy as I’m neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I love people and I love other cats. I’m also good with children and enjoy being held. Come visit me and the others!

Volunteers Needed Desperately!

To help, please email or call:

[email protected] or 910-792-9014 and leave a message.

◄If you’re saying, “Hey, he looks like he has one eye,” you’re right. But don’t worry, it doesn’t

slow me down a bit! My name is Blinky and I’m a super-sweet boy who had my eye removed as

a baby. Now I’m 1½-years-old and am ready to make someone very

happy with my extremely affectionate personality. My foster mom says I am half-

monkey. I love to be on your shoulder giving

kisses and hugs. I am good with other cats and

dogs and am neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained.

◄Hey there, I’m Moozer! I’m a young, friendly boy who is super-cute and super-gentle and I want nothing more than to be loved and petted. I’m also playful. Just wave that feather toy around and I’ll pounce and chase it and have a grand time. I love to listen to music on the car radio and hope that soon I’ll be listening to tunes from your car as you drive me home. Come see what a great guy I am in person!

►I’m Sam, but don’t confuse me with a boy.

That’s short for Samantha and I’m all girl! I’m a grey and white beauty, just 16-

weeks-old, who was found in Downtown Wilmington as a stray. As I wait for

my new family, I pass the time by playing with toys,

wrestling with other kittens and snuggling with human volunteers. I’m friendly to

children and am already spayed, litterbox-trained and up to date on shots.

►I’m out of this world! Guess that’s why they

named me Galaxy, huh?

As you can see, I’m a gorgeous Calico girl who is laid-back and loving. When they came to

take my photo, I continued to

lounge in my cat bed while they snapped away. Cameras don’t frighten me and neither do new people. All I want is

to be held, stroked and doted on. I am great with other cats and even with dogs! I’m also a good companion for

children. At just 2½-years-old, I am already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. If you’d like to meet me, visit Petsmart or call Cat Adoption Team today!

◄Hello there! I’m a black Siamese mix named Kigali. I’m a darling girl who loves to be held and petted. At just 2½-years-old, I can’t figure out why I’m homeless. I used to be part of a family, but my owner moved away and left me all alone. I’m a cat with lots and lots of purrsonality. I love chasing laser lights and will sleep in your bed every night. I’ve been told I’m a natural leg warmer. Let’s get cozy.

My name is Irwin, and I am named after Steve Irwin, another Aussie

gentleman. My perfect home would be with

someone who is famil-iar with Blue Heelers. I am completely true to my breed. I herd, I nip and I feel everything with my mouth. I am energetic and super

smart! I already know sit, down and give me paw. I am very train-able and food moti-

vated. Use it to your advantage. I am excellent with other dogs and I completely submit to them. I am learning not to jump or pull on the lead and would benefit from someone who is authoritative. I walk all over wimpy people - I am just too smart for them. I love to chew but just give me a chew toy and it can entertain me some. A fenced yard and another dog would be beneficial for me. I must be

exercised, stimulated, and would love a job to do. If you don't, I will be bored and will probably get into some trou-ble. I am gorgeous - just check out these markings! I am

neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative and house-trained. If you would like to know more about me or

would like to inquire about the adoption process, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting

Insurance Agency in loving memory of Dingo.

Hi there! We are a beautiful pair of Border Collie sisters who would love to find a new home

together! But don’t worry, if you only have room for one of us, it’s OK, we can be separated. My

name is Freckles and this is my sis, Sweet Pea. We are just 2½-years-old and were found at Ani-mal Control by Pender County Humane Society. We are very friendly girls who love to meet

new people - we’re hoping they want to play with us! We also

enjoy dog cookies and are doing very well with the ‘sit’ and ‘stay’

command. We’ve found that our good behavior is rewarded with a treat. And if you know any-thing about Border Collies, we

love to work! If you have a farm or a large piece of land for us to run on, that would be great. A

fenced-in yard would be fun, too. We hope you’ll decide to come

meet us. You just might find that one of us - or both - are the lov-

ing companions you’ve been looking for! Call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and let’s

arrange a playdate.

We are sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Insurance Agency in honor of Luna. Thank you!

Cat Tails

►White and black kitties often get overlooked. But when you’re almost all white, with just a Patch of black, there really is no excuse. They should have

named me Paris, like Ms. Hilton, ‘cause I crave attention and I love to be held and carried around! I am the male equivalent of Paris. And much like Ms.

Hilton, I am a little immature, at least age wise for me, because I am only

9-months-old! Adopt me meow!!

►They named me Darwin because I am a survivor. You see,

my mother abandoned me when I was just 3-weeks-old. A nice lady found me and

started bottle-feeding me. Then there was a wonderful mommy cat

who took me in and nursed me like her own! I love to play the fool and am always getting into trouble. Of course, I blame it on the other kitties. I am just 5-months-old and

ready to make your house my home.

►Quinn is an Irish word, which means to counsel. So I am going to give you some advice - come adopt me! As you can see, I am a beautiful

Siamese mix with brilliant blue eyes. I just celebrated my 6th birthday, in a shelter no less. I should have been

in my own house being served fresh tuna. That’s the life I deserve. I may be a little timid at first but give me a few

days and I’ll turn into that love machine you want.

◄Kiisu means kitten in Esto-nian and, at 6-months-old, that is exactly what I am. I am a sweet, female, silver

Tabby with just enough white to keep me from being aver-age. And although I look like

I have HUGE bug eyes in this picture, it’s just a bad

picture. If you take me home you can take a much better

picture of me to go along with my beautiful name.

◄I may look like an average 6-month-old Tabby cat but don’t let looks fool you! I have a beautiful caramel colored undercoat that gives my fur this luxurious feel. Once you start petting me you won’t want to stop, and as sweet and friendly as I am, I won’t let you stop! My two siblings are adopted, so let’s make it a trifecta, and get me out of this shelter. Just ask for Trip.

►With a name like Hercules, I should be big and bold.

Well, really I am very quiet and a little nervous at first. My brother, Whitey, and I

were put up for adoption to-gether. Whitey was my best friend and protector and he got adopted, so now I am

really lost. You can see I am a beautiful, Siamese mix with gorgeous blue eyes and I’m

only 9-months-old. So, if you would just give me a little time to get adjusted to your home,

I will settle in and become your best friend.

◄With a name like Zeus, I better be big, powerful, and beautiful. Well, look

at the picture and you can see I fit the bill. At only 4-months-old, I am on my way to living up to my name. Orange tab-bies are always some of

the most loving and friendly kitties. So if you want a born leader, who knows how to have fun,

come visit and let me show you my stuff.

►Oh Poppy-cock! That’s what all the other kitties say to me!

With a name like Poppy you better be cute,

and, well, I must say - I am. I’m a lovely white kitty with gray spots on

my head. Everyone wants a white cat so why am I still here looking for a home? I am still a youngster at just a

year and a half, and very friendly as well.

LOST CAT “Bitty” - Male Tabby

.

Last seen 25th & Chestnut Street Area in Wilmington

He has been with his family for 10-years and is very much loved and missed. He is neutered, not microchipped, and was wearing a FADED BLUE COLLAR (but it could have easily come off). He has big green eyes and is a large black and tan Tabby with big

spots on his sides, in addition to stripes. However, he has probably lost weight. He is a very, very sweet and affectionate

kitty, but he is also extremely shy with strangers.

He has been missing since June! Please Help!

◄My name is Candy (A248788) and I’m a

sweetheart. There’s not a single bone in my body

that’s stingy when it comes to love. I was found as a stray and

brought here to the shel-ter to find you. I’m just

1½-years-old and already spayed. Like I mentioned before, I’m very friendly and social and will also

rub up against your legs. I just crave being rubbed and feeling loved. If you

reach down to pet my noggin’, I’ll meet you half way by standing up on my hind legs and burying my head into your hand. I will be an excellent feline companion to

your family. Just give me a chance to show you.

►I hope you’ll open your heart and home to me. I hope you’ll

come out to the shelter and save me. And I hope you’ll give me the forever home I

deserve. My name is Hope (A249865). I have loads of purrsonality and I’m equally loving. After just a few sec-onds with me, I’ll melt your

heart and make you feel loved. I crave being close to

you and I will wind and rub my way around your legs. I’m just 2-years-old, I’ve already been

spayed and I’m ready to go!

►Whoever said you can’t find a perfect dog at your local

animal shelter is full of horse manure! I’m Abby Cadabby (A249378) and I’m everything you could ever want in a best friend. I’ll never lie to you or cheat on you. I’ll never stop

loving you and I’ll never judge you. And I promise to make you feel cherished every sin-gle day we’re together. I’m approximately 4-years-old,

spayed and good on a leash. I know how to sit, beg and

shake on command and I take treats very gently. If you are

looking for a leaner, cuddly, sit-on-the-couch with you and steal-a-piece-of-popcorn kind of dog...adopt me! If you’d like, I’ll even sleep in bed with you. Pleeeeease let me love you.

►My name is Corky (A249337) and I’m a cute little Jack Russell Terrier. I’m calmer than the aver-age Jack Russell and not as bouncy either. I’m a

sweet boy who loves to be near you and I enjoy a wide

array of toys. I like squeaky ones, fuzzy ones, bouncy ones, ones meant to be chewed...they’re all

good! Someone found me as a stray and brought me here to Animal Control to find a new family. I enjoy life to the fullest no matter what my current situation is and hope to find the same in a family. I have already been

neutered so I’m ready to go home with you today!

◄My name is Quentin (A249961) and I’m just 8-months-old. I have medium-length fur that is shiny and soft. It’s black when you first look at it but once you look closer, there is actually a brown undertone. There’s no doubt that I’ll grow into a super handsome, stunning gentleman. I love nothing more in this world than being held. If you want a cuddly, purry, biscuit-making kitty - pick me!!

►What a cute young man I am! My name is Beagle Bailey

(A248740) and I’m a Beagle mix who is around 8-months-old. I was found as a stray,

picked up by Animal Control, and brought here to the shelter to find a new home. I’m good on a leash, I’ve already been neutered, I know how to sit on

command, I take treats gently, I love playing with toys and I’m good with other dogs. Wait, there’s more! I know how to

play fetch and am good about bringing back and releasing the ball to you. I promise with all of my heart to be a loyal friend to

you. My sweet, tiny kisses won’t cost extra either!

◄A cat bed is a very

cozy place to be, but I bet your lap or couch is

even cozier! Hi, my name is Isis and

I’m a 2-year-old girl who

would love to be part of a family. I’m

used to living indoors-only and I get along with dogs. I’m also getting along just fine with the other cats here at the shelter. You will find that I’m all ready to ride home with you because I’m already

spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Come meet me and see how pretty I am. We could be a great match!

◄Did you ever think you’d be lucky enough to find the perfect family dog? Well, here I am! My name is Maci and I’m a 7-year-old Basenji/Austrailian Shepherd mix girl who weighs in at a medium-sized 52 pounds. I’m already house-trained, leash-trained, great during car rides and friendly to dogs and cats. Oh, I love humans, too! I will sit on command and wait for you to toss me the ball. My owner moved away and couldn’t take me. Now I need you!

►Do you need someone to keep you warm on these cold winter nights? My

name is Tiger and I’d like to apply for that job! In my former home, I sat on my human’s lap each

and every night while watching TV. She

could no longer keep me, so I’m giving

remote control duties to you! I’m a 6-year-old female who is spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Hurry, I’m missing my favorite shows!

►I’m a cuddly lap cat who is used to living

indoors. Even though I’m

getting along well with the other kitties at the shelter, I’m

longing to be part of a loving family.

I’m Kitty Kitty and I’m a

2½-year-old boy. In my former home, I lived with a small dog and other cats and we were all very friendly. I am very social with my humans and enjoy being around them. As I mentioned, I’m 100% Lap Cat and will make you feel very loved as I curl up with you. I also enjoy having my head,

neck and shoulders rubbed. Heaven! I’m neutered, vaccinated, and litterbox-trained, too. Let’s go!

◄If a precious orange Tabby is your heart’s desire, get ready to fall in love! My name is Mr. Kitty and I think I’m the perfect man for you. You’ll never be lonely again on Valentine’s Day with me around. I’m a neutered, vaccinated, litter-trained sweetheart who weighs in at a soft and cuddly 14 pounds. I sure do love being with humans and possess a calm, mellow, laid-back attitude. Come and get me!

My name is Ellie and I am a fun,

playful, energetic girl who would do

best in a home with a fenced in

yard. I am spayed, up to date

on my vaccina-tions and heart-

worm negative. I do great with other

dogs. I was adopted as a

puppy and returned by my family because they felt that they couldn't meet my needs. What I need right now is a new family. It's very sad for me to be stuck in a cage at a boarding facility. Please don't let me be homeless for six

months, like some of these other guys I am looking at! HOW SAD! I would benefit from a fenced in yard or even if you had a lonely, lazy dog who needs some exercise. If you would like to know more about me or would like to

and I’m a 10-month-old female whose fur is reminiscent of a Russian Blue. I love receiving attention from humans and I love to play. Cat toys are fun, and so are other fe-lines. Do you have a kitty who could use a playmate? I bet we’d get along just fine. I am already spayed, vacci-nated and litterbox-trained, so you won’t need to worry

◄My name is Holly and I was found by

the railroad tracks on Christmas Eve. I’m an 18-month-old Hound

with one blue eye and one brown. I’m so pretty! Right now I

weigh 45 pounds, but I could stand to gain

another ten. I’m great with other dogs and love to play. I enjoy rawhides, going for

walks and getting hugged and kissed by humans. I have a gentle personality and am already spayed, vaccinated and

on heartworm prevention. Come meet me!

◄I’m a sweet, handsome, 60-pound Hound in need of a new family! I’m Beau and I was part of a litter of twelve puppies that was adopted out four years ago. Sadly, my owner

became very ill and could no longer keep me. The good news is that I have perfect house manners and am well behaved! I walk nicely on a leash,

am house-trained, can sit for a cookie, and I get

along well with other dogs and human children. I am even used to sleeping in bed with my family, if it’s allowed. Please give me a home!

►I’m a precious puppy named Rudi. Rudi is short

for Rudolph, because I was found in the woods on Christmas Eve. I’m

8-weeks-old and they tell me I’m a wire-haired boy, probably mixed with some sort of Terrier. I’m in a fos-ter home currently and I’m getting along great with the other dogs there. My foster

family takes me to work with them, so I’m very well

socialized and happy to meet new people. I’m very smart, extremely cute and I’m doing very well with my potty-training. By the end of February I should weigh around

12 pounds. Call today and let’s get together!

►Hello! My name is Sugar Pie and I’m a 4-year-old

Redbone/Bloodhound mix girl.

I have floppy ears as soft as butter and I also have the most kissable mouth. In

fact, I’m kissin’ people all the time

because I’m extremely friendly and affectionate. I enjoy playing and

being with people. I love other dogs, too. I really want to be part of a family. Would you let me be

your new baby girl? I’ve been here too long!

◄Hello! I’m Bella Maria, a 2-year-old Walker

Hound girl. I hope my photo, which was taken in

my foster home, shows you what an excellent friend I would be. I have terrific

house manners and want nothing more than to cuddle and please you. I’m a petite

girl, just 31 pounds, and I get along very well with the

six other dogs living with me. I’m also spayed, up to date on vaccinations and on

heartworm prevention. Please call Paw’s Place today and let’s meet!

►Hi, my name is Peaches, and I’m a friendly and loving 8-year-old Golden Retriever mix. I’m spayed and looking

forward to living inside with my new family. I am already house-trained and I get along great with

other dogs. All I want is TLC and a nice place to live with a family who

adores me. I’m also vaccinated and on

heartworm prevention. I’m not asking for much, just kind-ness and affection. I’ll give it right back, night and day!

If you would only meet me, then you would understand what true love is!

Won’t you open your

you knew my sad story you would want to spoil me for

the rest of my life! I am already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm

I’m George! My three brothers

and I were found

abandoned in a parked

car. We were born probably the last week in

September 2010. We were only 3-weeks-old when we were brought to our foster home. Here, we have been raised with other

cats and kittens and a large dog. My brothers, all Tabbies, were quickly adopted. I am still in my foster

home where my sweet nature and playfulness have made me much loved. I am negative for all feline diseases,

have had all my shots and am neutered. Some cat lover who needs a great kitten should call my SOAR foster

mom at 910-278-4437 before she decides to keep me!

I am sponsored by Blue Heaven in Key West. Thank you!

Page 25: PawPrints Magazine February 2011

Hey there! My name is Maverick and I’m a

3-year-old Great Dane mix. To say I’m a friendly, happy boy would be an under-statement. I know

how to make friends quickly - whether they’re the human kind or the doggie

kind. I used to have a home, but my owner traveled and had no time to spend with

me. He wants you to know that I lived in-side the house and

was never destructive - I guess that means I

have good house manners! I got along great with the 4-year-old child who lived there and am OK with cats, too. I love to play ball and I can’t wait to take a ride in the car.

At 70 pounds, I’m a big boy, but I know how to sit on com-mand and am already house-trained and leash-trained.

As for my health, I am neutered, vaccinated and on heart-worm prevention. What do you say - could you be looking at your future best friend? Call the New Hanover Humane

Society at 910-763-6692 and let’s find out!

I am sponsored by Levi Donovan. Please consider adoption.

My name is Leroy and I am a 2-year-old Chow

cross with a pretty blue

tongue! I am currently being fostered by the nice people at

Pets Plus Grooming in

Porter's Neck. When I came to my foster home I had been living at the Pender County Animal Shelter for a long time. My hair was so matted and smelly that no one

would even think about taking me home with them. My fos-ter mom said it was so bad that they had to shave me so that the sores on my skin could heal. They also say that I probably started life out on a chain in the backyard. Wow, do I love living inside! I am a smart boy and am completely house-trained and crate-trained. I have been neutered and treated for parasites, too! Right now I am undergoing treat-ment for heart worms. My treatments will be done soon and

I am looking for my forever home. I am a sweet boy who loves the ladies! I am quite shy with men but do warm up to them eventually. I am good with kitties and love to play with

children, but I am not fond of other dogs. I want all of the hugs and kisses and attention to be mine, so I need to be an

only dog. I walk well on a leash and ride well in the car. The groomer here says I'm great! Won't you take me

home? Call 910-681-0510 for more info on adopting me.

My name is Recess and I

was dumped in the K-2 play-ground at Bo-livia Elemen-tary School.

Yup, you heard it right, they dropped me into the play-

ground and left me there. Just in case I some-

how got in there on my

own, ads were run looking for my owner, but no one claimed me. I am

now neutered but I did test positive for heartworms, so I will be undergoing heartworm treatment very soon. If you would like to donate toward my vet bills, you can do so online at www.adoptanangel.net or you can mail tax-

deductible donations to Adopt-An-ANGEL at P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408. I am one of those very lov-ing dogs who leans into you for love and I melt when you touch me. I am very attached to my people so it would be great if I went to a home where someone is home a lot. Also, I like dogs so that would be cool, too. Hi there, my name is Uno! I was found

running down a busy street in Burgaw. A kind couple came to my rescue and now I’m waiting for a per-manent, loving home. I’m a female Ameri-

can Staffordshire Terrier mix, just 3-years-old. My per-sonality could best

be described as friendly and fun-

loving. I am spayed, vaccinated, house-trained and leash-

trained. I love to be petted and enjoy playing tug-of-war with my rope toys. Pender County Humane Society wants me to go to the best home possible, so you must be experienced with

handling my breed. A fenced-in yard is also a necessity. I’m not a big fan of cats, but I play just fine with other dogs as long as I’m introduced slowly. Since I’m a playful, ac-

tive girl, I would do best in a home with adults-only or older children, not tiny ones. If you think we could be a match, please call the shelter at 910-259-7022. I’ll get my rope

toy ready for your visit!

I am sponsored by Milo, a Pender County Humane Society shelter dog who found his forever home.

URGENT, URGENT!! I’m Running Out of

Time!! It’s hard being at Animal

Control, but it’s espe-cially hard for dogs like me. We once had fami-

lies and know what it feels like to be loved - now all I know is the

feeling of being aban-doned. Could you re-

store my life to the happy one it once was?

My name is Misty (CF3021) and I’m a black Lab mix with a

wavy coat of hair. I’m such a pretty girl and I am always smiling despite my sad circumstances. I was so excited

to come out of my kennel for my photo, and I sat down on command as soon as they asked me. I’m already

spayed, so my new family won’t have to worry about that expense. I’m good on a leash, I listen well and I enjoy dog cookies. I’ve been living here since October and I

need to find a home soon! They have so many dogs and not enough room for us all. Would you please come visit?

You’ll get a warm reception, I promise! Call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis

◄URGENT, URGENT! My time is

running out! I’ve been living here

for one full year! When will someone save me so that we

can share a life together? My name is Rock (CM2362)

and I’m a Rottie mix with a heart of gold. At just 3 to 4-years-old, I was found as a

stray in Burgaw in February 2010. I

walk well on a leash and I get along fine

with the other dogs here at the shelter. I love eating treats and was so happy to receive some in exchange for sitting for

my photo! I also enjoy getting attention from humans and am highly loveable. Please hurry on over and meet me!

►Hi there, my name is Toby (CM3223)! I’m a 3 to 4-year-old Yellow Lab mix

who loves the water! When they spray my kennel down,

I really enjoy splashing around. If you have a boat,

or if you like trips to the beach, I bet we’d be a good

team! I am here with my sister and we get along well,

so it’s safe to say I’m fine with other dogs, too. We

were found as strays. I love eating treats and playing in

the shelter’s yard. A privacy fence or a sturdy underground fence is best for me. We

will have a grand life together, so come adopt me, please!

►Since October 2010! That’s how long I’ve been living at Animal Control’s

animal shelter. My name is Natalie (FF2819) and I’m an

affecionate, ebony-colored beauty with golden eyes. I

was found as a stray in Burgaw and have been

impressing everyone with my sweet personality since my arrival. I enjoy playing with

toys and will rub my face against your fingers in

purry appreciation of your attention. Can I be yours?

►People just love to hold me, kiss me

and run their fingers through my long orange and white fur. Good thing I

love for them to do it, too! You see,

I’m Butterscotch (FF3128) and I’m as sweet as my name

sugests. I’m a 3-year-old girl who was abandoned in the front yard when my owner moved

away. My mother, Callie, and my sister,

Muffin, are pictured on this page as well. I love to be cuddled and will keep you warm all winter. Let’s go!

◄It’s hard to believe someone abandoned a sweet girl like me, but that’s just what they did! Hi friends, my name is Muffin (FF3129) and I’m a long-haired Calico with a laid-back and loving nature. See my photo? I could have hung out all day on this person’s shoulders. I’m a true beauty with a fabulous personality to boot. At jus 3-years-old, I’ve got years of love to give you.

►I’m already spayed and ready to move in! Hello, my name is Callie (FF3127) and

I’m an adult Calico who is looking for a home with kind and loving people. You see, my last family abandoned me and my two daughters, Muffin

and Butterscotch, who are also pictured on this page. I’m a gorgeous girl with a loveable personality. I really enjoyed

being held while my photo was taken and I’d be a great

companion for anyone. Come meet me and fall in love!

My name is Billy and I’m a very sweet and loving Walker Hound

who weighs just under 50 pounds. I had a bit of a sad beginning, as I was found on Highway 74 West extremely de-hydrated and emaci-ated. I had been shot in the hip, but luckily

today I suffer no ill ef-fects from that injury. I am doing much better

now, however my appetite will always be big as a result of being starved. I have been neutered and microchipped

and am up to date on heartworm prevention and all vaccines. I’m probably about 2-years-old, but I act much

younger than that since I was never allowed to be a puppy. I am house-trained and non-destructive, but am still learning to not jump up on people. I like other dogs

and seem ok with cats. I love people most of all, now that I have met some nice humans. I will be a loyal and loving companion to someone willing to give me a forever home.

Please call my foster mom, Grace, at 910-352-6256 for more information.

URGENT, URGENT!! I’m Running Out of Time!! How can a small dog like me, fully grown at 35 pounds, be

overlooked? Usually the smaller dogs are snapped up! My name is Sunny (CF2737) and I’m so excited to talk with you. I’m a pretty girl, as you can see. They tell me I may be mixed with Whippet and my fur is a shiny chocolate brown. I’m a little shy, but

that’s probably because I’ve been here since July 2010!

After a few moments of taking my photos, however, I started to warm up and enjoy being

rubbed. The person holding me gave me a nice neck massage (see my photo?) and I really enjoyed that! They

also tell me I’m probably around 1 to 2-years-old and I was found as a stray in Burgaw. Won’t someone please come visit me and give me a chance? Just call Pender

County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196. You can be the one who rescues me

and starts me on the path to a happy new life.

I am sponsored by Kathy Lanio. Thank you!

◄If you don’t mind me bragging, I’d like you to notice how I’m sitting on command! My name is Brandy and I’m very proud of my sitting skills. I watch people intently and do my best to please them. I’m a 22-month-old Bluetick Hound mix who is already house-trained and leash-trained. I love greeting all the folks who come to the shelter and I get along very well with children. Let me be your girl!

►Hi there, my name is Silly Girl! If you’re won-

dering how I got my name, you need to come visit.

Just spend a few moments watching me play, chase after toys, and climb into your lap and you’ll say,

“Oh, you sweet, silly girl!” At 1-year-old, I’m a Lab and Terrier mix who is

looking for a home where I can be the only dog. I’m already spayed, vacci-

nated and house-trained. I have a fun-loving person-

ality and would greatly enjoy playing games with you in our fenced backyard.

◄A darling boy like me should be living with a family! When will it be my turn to be loved? My name is Cole and I’m a 10-month-old cutie who is neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I love to be cuddled and kissed, so come visit and get to know me. We’re in a cage-less environment and you can pick me up and watch me play with all the others. I’ll show you just why I’m the one you should be bringing home today!

◄I’m a Russian Blue who lost my right eye to an

injury when I was a baby, but don’t worry, it doesn’t bother me at all. I play,

skip, hop and melt hearts just like any other kitten!

My name is Misty and I’m a 7 pound girl, just 6 to

7-months-old. I was in a foster home for a while,

and they said I love to lay in laps and watch TV with my human friends. I also love to play! I get along

great with dogs and other cats and am already

spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Adopt me!

►Need some love in your life? You’re in luck! I am ready to bring you so much

joy. My name is Danielle and

I was born on June 15,

2010. I’d like to invite you to come cuddle me in person.

I live in a cageless environment, so you can really get to know me and watch me interact with my surroundings. I love all people and am playful and affectionate. I’m also spayed,

up to date on shots and litterbox-trained. Hurry on over!

◄Have you lost your mojo? Well, adopt me

and you’ll get it back! My name is MoJo and I’m an adorable puppy, just 4½-months-old. I’m currently living at the shelter with my two other brothers. We have a good time

wrestling, romping and cuddling. You

should come check us out! I’m a precious boy

with a loving spirit. I easily sat for my photo and enjoyed getting ear rubs at the same time. I

am already neutered and vaccinated. Let’s go home!

I May Have “Special Needs” But I Still Need A Home!

Hello! I’m Lola and I’m a very sweet and loving girl. I’m a

3-year-old Shepherd mix and all I want is to please and be loved. I do have an old cruci-ate ligament injury which re-

quires me to stay on glucosa-mine chondroiton for my life-time. It would be helpful if I

were hand walked on a regu-lar basis to strengthen my muscles. I don’t really get

along with other female dogs, but I generally interact well with larger, docile male dogs. I

have been in a shelter situation for a long time and I’m really wanting a family of my own! I love people and would be a wonderful companion for some lucky person or fam-ily. I’m currently staying at a dog boarding facility and the owners say I behave beautifully. Won’t you please con-sider adopting me? Please call the Sunburst Foundation at 910-622-0011 or email [email protected]

for more information.

I am sponsored by the Karl Miller family. Thanks!

Can you hear me purring? My name is Rosie and I’m an extremely affec-tionate cat who is looking for a good home. I was

brought to Pender County Humane Society by a nice lady who had been feeding

me when I was a stray hanging out by a storage

unit. I get along great with the other kitties at the shel-ter and I love getting atten-

tion from humans! I'm spayed, current on vaccina-tions, litterbox-trained and

2-years-old. I’d be so grateful to have a furever home! Come to the shelter and get to know me. It’s a cage-less environment, so you can play with me and watch me interact with the other kitties

and all the toys that are laying around. If you’d like to get things started, please call Pender County Humane Society

at 910-259-7022 and tell them you’re on your way!

I’m CoCo MoonPie and I’m a 9-year-old female

Boxer mix. Seven years ago, I was found

wandering on Highway 17 by a kind lady who scooped me up and

rescued me. I’ve been living at Paw’s Place ever since! Please,

won’t someone take a chance on me and bring me home? I’m a truly wonderful girl. I enjoy chew toys and being

around other dogs and people. I’m so very

sweet - I love giving lots of delicious doggie kisses. If you have a 6-foot fenced in

yard and a cat-free home, I hereby promise to be your loyal, loving, lifetime buddy. To find out more, or if you need

Look at me! I’m an expert at sitting on

command and wait-ing for a treat. My name is Zoe and I’m a 6 to 7-year-old female Beagle who weighs in at a

mere 25 to 30 pounds. I was once a beloved

family member, but my owner could no

longer keep me after going through financial struggles. The good news is that I’m a perfect family companion! I am house-trained, leash-trained, and love to be cuddled and kissed. I have a good-natured personality, am friendly to children and I really enjoy going for walks. I am so happy to receive attention from my humans and I love to be petted. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention.

I’m the best friend you’ve been searching for! Please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 to find out how you can

Bonjour, my name is Chaton! Okay, I’m not truly French, but

my name is. It means ‘kitten’ in that language. I’m actu-

ally an American Patch Tabby who was found on the

streets of Wilming-ton. I wish I could say I was found strolling the banks of the river Seine in Paris, but it’s nothing quite so adventurous. Still, being adopted by you would be just as thrilling! I’m a young,

spayed female who is friendly to other cats. In fact, I used to share a cage with my sister, but she was recently adopted. I loved being with her so I’m a little lonely.

Would you adopt me so I can snuggle up with someone? I am already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained and

I’m very playful. I may be a bit shy when we first meet, but I warm up fast and am very affectionate! If you’d like to

adopt me, call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014 or visit Petsmart in Wilmington. We’re there seven days a week!

I am sponsored by the UNCW Pre-Veterinary Medical

Association. Thank you!

Today is my first day at the shelter, so I’m a little bewil-dered but I’m trying to be very brave! I think I might

have even stolen a few hearts in the short time that I’ve been here. My name is Lucy and I’m an 8-year-old Dachshund who was found

running loose in Burgaw. I’m a true sweetheart who loves to get attention from humans.

I am very happy to be held and am definitely a lap dog. I

am also house-trained and leash-trained and enjoy going

for walks. I’d be a great companion for an adult-only household, or even one with kids. My health is good, too - I’m spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Do you think you could find room in your heart for a sweet little girl like me? I’m so ready to settle down with a loving fam-ily forever! Please call Pender County Humane Society at

910-259-7022 and tell them you’d like to meet me.

◄Have you always wanted a Russian

Blue? Well, I may not be purebred, but I have that beautiful

bluish/grey fur that is so unique and lovely. My name is Fresca and I’m a 2-year-old girl who was found wandering around

Oak Island as a stray. I am a very friendly, loving feline and I

enjoy being with other cats. I’m also

spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Let’s meet!

◄I guess you could call me a

man-made Manx. You see, when I was born, I had a tail. Somehow it

got infected. That’s when my friends at SOAR found me. They got me to a vet

and the tail was removed. My name is

Vinnie and I’m a 10-month-old boy

who is quite happy with my tail-less bottom. I am very playful and I love everyone I meet. You should come visit

me and give me a cuddle. I bet I will melt your heart.

►My extremely loveable personality has made me

quite a favorite around here! The SOAR manager says that as soon as you open my kennel door, I’m ready and waiting to be held and cuddled. My name is Blue

and I think it’s my mission to make every human feel cherished and loved. At

4-years-old, I’m a grey and white Tabby boy who is

already neutered, up to date on shots and litterbox-trained. Living with me

would be a delight as every fibre of my being is loving and kind. Do yourself a favor and adopt me today! We could

be snuggling together and keeping warm in no time.

►Talk about beauty! My name is Kit and I’m

a grey and white girl with medium-length fur. I hope you’ll come see

how pretty I am in person. You’ll also find that my personality is just as delightful. At a mere 1-year-old, I love to be held by humans

and I also enjoy playing with other cats. Vinnie, pictured above, is my

roommate and we have a great time! I’m

healthy, litterbox-trained and ready to begin life with you!

►A gorgeous, female,

Border Collie and Lab mix

awaits you! My name is Bear

and I’m ready to be your favorite

companion. I am already

house-trained, leash-trained

and I know how to sit on com-mand. At just 2½-years-old, you and I have lots of great memories to begin making! If you’re wondering what I have in my

mouth, it’s my stuffed Santa doll. I carry it everywhere and would never dream of ripping it up. Come meet me soon!

►I’ve been at SOAR for six months! When will my new family walk up to my

kennel door? I’m Grunt, a 1-year-old male Lab mix with a friendly and playful personality. I know how to sit and stay on command and I just love it when vol-unteers take me for walks. I’m very good on a leash and I also enjoy playing

with tennis balls. A house with no other dogs is fine, but if there are dogs, I'd be happiest in a home with a

female or one who is smaller than me. If there are kids around, ages 10 and up would be best. I’m already neutered,

vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Adopt me!

Are you looking for a com-panion to take on adventures and outings to the beach or

tween you and me, I was waiting for them to throw me a tennis ball!) I’m a young girl, 3-years of age, and I’m a total sweetheart. There’s not a mean bone in my body. I’m already house-trained

and, like I said, will sit and stay on command. I love affec-tion and can’t get enough hugs or kisses. I’m a Terrier mix

who is great with children and other dogs (but no cats, please.) I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Call SOAR at 910-457-6340 so we can meet

Hello, my

name is Roo! I am a

beautiful, female Ameri-

can Classic Brown Tabby-

cat. I was

found in the Hoggard High School parking lot in Wilmington and brought to my foster home on Oak Island. My approxi-mate date of birth is October 18, 2010. At first, I liked to sleep in a bag (pouch) and therefore was called "Roo," as in Kangaroo. I am sweet, playful and used to a big dog and other cats. I'm already spayed and have had my first round of kitten shots. If you would like to meet me, please call my SOAR foster mom at 910-278-4437.

I am sponsored by Blue Heaven in Key West.

Sunburst Foundation of Wilmington Please call 910-622-0011 or email [email protected] to adopt us!

Blue Hand Home presents the 1st annual Cape Fear Dragon Boat Race and Festival slated for Saturday, June 4th. Wounded Warriors and Sunburst Foundation will be

the recipients. Sunburst Foundation will be using the bulk of the funds raised to help cats and dogs at Pender County Animal Control. By purchasing a seat on a long boat, your

seat will be $50 and you will need to raise at least $50 in pledges. That $100 can provide spay/neutering services for 1 dog or 2 cats, heartworm testing for 10 dogs, Pro-

heart injections (heartworm preventative) for 4-5 canines, etc. Sunburst Foundation has worked to develop pro-

grams at the municipal shelter with the goal of helping to establish a model shelter for other AC's to follow. Please be a part of this proactive approach to helping homeless

cats and dogs have a voice. For more information, please visit the website at www.capefeardragonboat.com.

◄I’m Hero, and when I posed for this photo, my

sweet face certainly disguised the rough shape

I was in. You see, the Sunburst Foundation later took me to the vet for an exam, and I had three

decayed molars that had to be extracted, erlichiosis (from tick exposure) and heartworm disease. I am now recovering in a foster

home and doing well. Unfortunately, my medical bill is rising and will continue to rise while I undergo heartworm treatment. Any donations

toward my medical care would be greatly appreciated. Please send your tax-deductible donation to: Sunburst

Foundation, P.O. Box 7527, Wilmington, NC 28406.

◄I’m Rosie! I’m a medium-sized Pug/Spitz mix and, at

just 4-years-old, I’m a smart, friendly girl who would be a great agility dog. I adore

children and am friendly to adult humans as well! I am doing fine in getting along with other dogs and have

been working with an obedi-ence trainer. I would love to continue obedience training with my new family. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on

heartworm prevention. You’d be so lucky to share your life with a great girl like me!

◄Hello! This happy face belongs to me, Ming Ming! At just 2-years of age, I’m a

Boxer/American Bulldog mix girl. I have a very

sweet personality and get along just fine with other dogs and people. I’m al-ready house-trained and crate-trained and I walk

well on a leash. I am also very happy to sit on com-mand for treats! And yes,

I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm pre-vention. Don’t waste another moment - call today!

◄Hi, my name is Blondie! I’m a sweet girl who appears to be mixed between an Es-kimo Dog and a Yellow Lab. Aren’t I beautiful? I weigh 45 pounds and am house-trained and

crate-trained. I’m good with other dogs, too! At

just 4 to 5-years-old, I’m spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm pre-vention. I’m a bit shy, but obedience training

will help my self-confidence. I have

been diagnosed with epilepsy and will need

to stay on medication for my lifetime, but please don’t let that stop you from adopting me! It’s relatively inexpensive

and helps me so much. Please consider giving me a home - I’m a very sweet girl with a small special need.

◄I’m Dawson and I love people, especially those little ones called children! I’m a 3 to 4-year-old, flat-coated Retriever mix and I’d dearly love to belong to your family. I am house-trained, crate-trained, neu-tered, vaccinated, and on heartworm prevention. I play well with other dogs and I’ve had no problem with cats. Don’t I sound wonderful? Call today so we can meet real soon!

Adopt-An-ANGEL 2011 Spay A Stray Last year, thousands of cats and kittens were euthanized in Pender, Brunswick, and New Hanover Counties because they could not find a home. There are just too many of them. In 2007-2009, Adopt-An-ANGEL (AAA) distrib-uted vouchers to help people spay their female cats. In 2010, AAA was unable to do this program because of lim-ited funds and were slammed with kittens all year long as a result. Now, AAA has set aside $3,000 to spay as many female cats possible - that's 50 cats to start with - prevent-ing the birth of 200 to 300 kittens. Here's how it works: If you live in New Hanover, Pen-der or Brunswick County and have a female cat who needs to be fixed, pick up a voucher at Pet Supermarket on Ole-ander Drive, make your appointment at Cape Fear Spay/Neuter Clinic and get her fixed along with a rabies shot...FREE! AAA has kicked in the first $3,000. Could you pitch in some for an even greater impact? AAA is accepting donations to the program to keep it funded. For every $60 that comes in earmarked, Spay A Stray, AAA will put out another voucher. To donate, please send tax-deductible donations to Adopt-An-ANGEL, P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408 or go online to donate at www.adoptanangel.net and put Spay A Stray in the com-ment line. Let's stop flooding an already overcrowded shelter system with hundreds of unwanted kittens this spring. Let's get smart about this and prevent their births in the first place.

Hi, I’m Annabelle. I am a gorgeous

Shepherd mix who is 6-years-young and

spayed. I am a big girl (100 pounds) with lots

of love to give! I have many excep-

tional qualities. I am a great watchdog with a deep bark who’s pro-tective of my family’s territory. I walk well

on a leash and have been obedience-trained. I am invisi-ble fence trained, too! I would love to live inside again and you’ll be pleased to know, I'm 100% house-trained! I enjoy hiking in the woods, barking at and chasing squirrels and lounging on the porch. You could say I like country-style living. My requirements are simple! I need a fenced yard or invisible fence, a strong pack leader, and a home where

there are NO other dogs or cats. Because of my extra-large size, I would do best with older children, too. I de-

serve another chance to find a great home, could it be with you? If you are interested in adopting me, call Amy today at 910-253-0501 to arrange a visit. Hope to see you soon!

I am sponsored by Francesca Slaughter in loving

memory of Casper and Lucy.

No one can resist my charms! And why should they want to - I’m a perfect angel! My name is Sophie and I’m a 6-pound Yorkie Poo, just 2-years-old.

Someone saw me in the woods and coaxed me out

with a piece of chicken. I was skin and bones, but I’m put-ting on weight and my little

pink sweater keeps me warm! I’m a loving lap dog who is

house-trained, leash-trained and very friendly. I will walk up to anyone and I become

attached to people very easily. I’m not a barker and would be a great companion for an adult-only household or even one with children. I’m good with other dogs and am happy with cats. I love to be held and will sleep in bed with you at night. As for my health, I am already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. So how about it? Are you

ready to put your lonely days to an end? Call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and let’s get

acquainted!

I am sponsored by George, Brenda and John Harriss in loving memory of Miss Scarlett, Rosie Belle, Candy

and Lady, special friends, all.

FUNDS DESPERATELY NEEDED!

Friends of Felines is an all volunteer, non-profit organization that is pleading for your help to raise

desperately needed spay/neuter funds. Without these funds, Friends of

Felines cannot continue its mission, which is to reduce the

overpopulation of feral cats through a trap/spay-neuter/

vaccination and return program, essentially helping these cats live

happier, healthier lives.

All donations are tax deductible and all money goes directly to the cats.

PLEASE HELP THE CATS. Every penny collected is pledged to help feral cats of New Hanover County. Please mail your donation to:

If you are a patient person

and will-ing to

work with a shy little girl who

will warm up and be your best bud, then I am your lady! My name is

Gypsy and I am a 7-year-old mini-Schnauzer who came to Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas from a breeder. My foster parents are working with me to get my girlish figure back. I am on an inexpensive thyroid medicine,

but the vet said that I can probably come off of it if I lose a little weight. Like I said, I am a little shy at first, but

after a week or two I will be right by your side! I am great with other dogs, in fact I love them! I am house-trained, crate-trained and I am working on my leash-training. My shots are up to date and I’m heartworm negative, micro-chipped, and spayed. I would probably be happiest in a home with a calm, patient, retired person or someone who works from home. If you are interested in me and

would like to find out more, please visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. There you can

fill out an application online and view other adoptable rescues. If you need an application mailed or faxed to

you, please call 910-264-8300 and one will be sent.

Can you imagine living a life outside and being scared of everything that was around you except for your other outside

friends? Well, it wasn’t that great a life, so now I am

looking for a life of indoors and love!

My name is Kipper and I am a 4-year-

old, male mini-Schnauzer who weighs just 14 pounds. I am slowly learning

to trust, especially when there is another dog around. It may be best for me to go to a home with another dog sib-ling. I am learning to walk on a leash and I get along with dogs of all sizes and I’m even good with cats! My house-

training is coming along nicely and so is my crate-training. I am heartworm negative, neutered, and micro-chipped. I am

very ready to live a life of love and attention if someone is willing to give me the chance. My new home should have a fenced-in yard and, if there are children, they should be over the age of 10. If you are interested in me and would like to

find out more, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. You can fill out an application there online and view other adoptable rescues. If you need an application mailed or

faxed to you, call 910-264-8300.

Purrfect Pet Adoptions Please call 910-329-4700 to adopt us!

We are sponsored in honor of all cats and kittens who have found loving homes with forever families.

►I was abandoned as a baby kitten, so my

wonderful foster mom held me in her arms and gave me formula from a baby bottle.

Being held like that has made me extra sweet

and friendly toward humans. I’m quite

accustomed to being kissed and cuddled! My name is Stanley

and I’m an 8-month-old boy who is neutered,

vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I’m great with other cats and I’d love

to be your best friend!

►The power of prayer works! You see, I

was at a local church praying for someone to help me. Next thing I know, I’ve

been scooped up and carried to safety. Now all I need is a family! My name

is Princeton and I’m a 9-month-old male kitten. I’m a loving boy who is happy to be held and kissed. In fact,

they call me a certified “people cat” and an

“absolute doll”. You can rub my belly and flop me around. Affection will be yours!

►A kind lady found me as a stray in her

neighborhood. Someone had left me

on the street! My name is Hershel and I’m an 8-month-old kitten with

sleek, soft, ebony-colored fur. I’m a very

sweet boy who would be perfect for anyone. You see, I get along well with other cats but I also am fine on my own. I like to be held, but I don’t mind being at home while you go to work. I’m loving, but not clingy. I’d be

such a wonderful addition to your household. Come visit!

►My name is Jack and I’m not a wiggle worm. No

sir, when you hold me in your arms, I don’t try to get down. I stay put and make

biscuits with my paws. Some cats don’t like to be held, but not me! I’m a 9-

month-old boy who was found in a cardboard box on

a hot day. I was so very tiny at the time. I was

bottlefed by my foster mom, so I’m very comfortable

being with humans. Come over and meet me today!

◄▲We two brothers - Stark and Eric - were found all by ourselves

on a neighborhood street. I’m Stark, the Tabby on the left with the white chest. Eric has a glossy black coat. We

are just 9-months-old and have friendly, affectionate per-sonalities. We’re already neutered, vaccinated and litter-

box-trained. You can adopt us separately or together!

◄I’m a 2-year-old girl named Bingo and I’d love to be part of your family! I’m a very sweet and friendly feline who gets along well with other kitties. I am already spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and great in the litterbox. I’m a quiet girl who just wants a nice, cozy life with people who adore me. Oh, and if you have a peacock feather or a few toys for me to play with, that would be great, too. Swing by today!

I’m a fluffy, orange ball of fur named Ivy. To say I’m handsome is an understatement.

With my sparkling eyes, long-haired fur

and fluffy tail, I’m stunning! I hope you’re ready for a lifetime of kisses and cuddles, be-

cause that’s what you’ll get if you adopt me. I enjoy meet-ing new people and will walk right up to you, hoping that

you’ll touch me. I’m a little boy who was born around May 17, 2010, and I was found sitting by the side of Highway

117. I was named Ivy in honor of my rescuer, who caught a case of poison ivy while retrieving me! I’m adorable, playful and love to be kissed. I’m also neutered, vacci-nated and litterbox-trained, and I get along just fine with the other kitties here at the shelter. Please consider tak-

ing me home! You can call Pender County Humane Soci-ety at 910-259-7022 and soon be gazing at me in person.

I am sponsored by Becke and Jerry in loving memory

of Fox. Thank you.

Hi! My name is Dixie Too. Have you been

looking for a family dog, one who will create lots of happy memories and bring you lots of love?

Well, I’m your girl! I’m a Lab mix, just 1-year-old. I love playing with toys

such as tennis balls and stuffed animals and I have a friendly, social personality. I adore

people and want to be around them all the time.

Since I’m active, an adult-only home or one

with kids age ten or older would be perfect. As for my health, I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Oh yes, I’m good with other dogs and walk

well on a leash. Come spend some time with me! SOAR can be reached at 910-457-6340. They’ll be happy to tell

you how we can get together!

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

DOOK-N-DANCE FERRET SHELTER

My name is Marshmallow and I came to rescue from a lady who could no

longer care for me or afford my vet care. I’m approximately 6 to 7-years-old. I suffer from adrenal disease. When I

first came to the shelter, I only had hair on my head and feet. Since then, I’ve

had a melatonin shot which allowed the symptoms to abate some and let me grow all my hair back.

I get along great with most other ferrets. To adopt me, email at [email protected] or call 910-548-2831. You can also view other ferrets by visiting us online at

Happy-go-lucky, devoted, friendly and playful describe me. They call me Brandy and everyone

likes me so much that I was se-lected from among many other dogs to participate in A Shelter

Friend’s New Leash on Life Pro-gram at the Bladen County Cor-rectional facility. In this program, I learned to sit, stay, come, heel,

plus more – so I could become the perfect well-mannered addition to your family. I am about a year-old, medium-

sized reddish Labradorable Hound mix, and I get along well with everyone, including other dogs. I am spayed and vac-

cinated, so I’m ready to move into your home and heart! Call Denise at 910-862-1728 to make it happen! Visit A Shelter Friend online at www.AShelterFriend.org and on

A SHELTER FRIEND OF SE NORTH CAROLINA

PHOENIX LANDING FOUNDATION

Hi, my name is Charlie. I am a ma-ture (mid-thirties) male Blue and Gold Macaw and I am told that I have great manners. I am vocal in the morning but rarely scream; I am generally a

very quiet bird. My favorite spot is a tree perch on the screened-in porch; I love to watch the squirrels and other birds outside. I am used to getting

regular showers and really enjoy them. I will step up onto a perch or hand but really prefer not to be handled much. My favorite foods are chopped raw veggies, fruits, eggs, grains and some pelleted food. I am looking for that perfect per-son who will care for me and treat me with the dignity and respect to which I am accustomed. To adopt me or to fos-ter or adopt another of the many parrots of all species that are awaiting homes, contact us at www.phoenixlanding.org (click on the link for adoption/foster), call 866-749-5634 or

email us at [email protected].

OPERATION TOPCAT

Late one night, my fos-ter mom was trapping a sweet group of recently orphaned kittens off the

island in Surf City. Thankfully, her friend looked around with a

flashlight and saw a pair of eyes looking back:

Mine! With a brief "kitty kitty" I came running over and nearly jumped in her lap because I didn't want to be left behind. A very nice lady

offered to take care of all my vet bills and the kittens, too. I had a great vet who fixed a deep ulcer in my left eye with

two surgeries...it looks almost like new. On top of that, the spay saved my life because I was full of infection that is

common to unspayed females. Whew, talk about lucky. I have had lots of guardian angels helping me along the way and now I need my new forever home. I love to spend time just sitting on your lap. If you want a precious little bundle

of "Half Moon-Pie" lap time love, I am looking for you! Please email [email protected] or call 910-270-9892 to find out more about me. To meet some of the other kitties

here, visit www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC250.html.

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

My name is Sheena, which means gift from God. I am a beautiful Lab/Husky mix. I’m a very friendly girl who has had a difficult time in

this life for being just a little over a year-old. I love

other dogs and cats and we play and share well

together. I am heartworm negative, spayed and up to date on my shots. I sat and waited with my new Christmas collar hoping to spend

Christmas with a new family. I waited, but no one came for me and I just don' t understand why - I have so much

love to give. When I was very young I was hit by a car and it fractured my pelvis. I was alone and scared but God

kept me safe and even though I have a limp, my injuries healed. Even with the limp, I can run and play like crazy. I

tried finding a home on my own, but I guess I picked the wrong person and they chased me away by shooting me

with buckshot! Those wounds have now also healed, but I was very sad that I could not find a home of my own. Eve-ryone who has helped in my foster care just loves me, but I

have to remember that they are fosterers for other dogs who need help, so I am trying to find my forever

home. Will you please just come and see me and perhaps offer me a chance of a home of my own? Please Call Joe

and Helen at 910-545-1846 for a time to visit. Please come!!! For more information and to see more pictures please visit the OC-PAW website at www.oc-paw.com.

FUREVER FRIENDS ANIMAL RESCUE

My name is Blackie and I was res-cued by Pender County Animal Con-trol Shelter. I had been hit by a car and my back leg was pretty banged up. They transferred me to Furever Friends so that I could get medical

treatment. My hip and leg had been broken and have since been re-

paired. Now I’m going to physical therapy a few times a week to help

build the muscles back up in my leg. I’m a very happy, super sweet dog who is full of love. I’m approximately 3-years-old, vaccinated, neutered, leash-

trained, crate-trained and I’m good with kids, cats and other dogs. I did test positive for heartworms but will be treated for them at no additional cost to my adoptive family. I’d really love a home because I’m tired of being in a cage. For more info or to adopt me, please call 910-383-2100

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

Hello and Happy Valentine’s Day! My name is Mr. McDuff and I am hoping for a great new home. I

have had an incredibly hard begin-ning to my life. You see, someone had thrown me away...they actually threw me over the fence at the dog

kennels. Yup, that is where I ended up, skin and bones and in

some serious help. Pender Endangered Animal Rescue (PEAR) has taken me in and now I am gaining weight and

getting healthy. I am a youngster and need a home. If you’d like to adopt me, call PEAR at 910-675-0867 or send

an email to [email protected] for more info.

Hey Y’all! My name is Hendrix and I am a black and tan 1-year-old Hound mix,

with one white sock. I am enrolled in the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program

learning all the skills to make you love me. My trainer and my friends from

Monty’s Home are teaching me all kinds of cool stuff. I love to fetch and play tug and I am a very fast learner. I am crate-trained and I walk easily on a leash. I

am affectionate and I love having my head rubbed. I am a long way from Woodstock and my trainer refuses to let me

play his guitar, but I promise to love you if you just give me a chance to be part of your family. To adopt me or

one of the other five of the Woodstock gang, get an application at www.montyshome.org, call 910-262-3055

or send an email to [email protected]. Written for Hendrix by his inmate trainer Gene F.

CAPE FEAR HOUSE RABBIT SOCIETY

CAROLINA ANIMAL PROTECTION SOCIETY

Hi, my name is Miss Dovey. I am a white cat with soft fur. I

am a little over a year-old. I had been thrown out near a conven-ience store and was struggling to survive day to day. I was scared, hungry, and thirsty. It took awhile

but I finally trusted a nice CAPS lady enough to go home with her. She took me to a foster home and my foster mom says I have come a long way. I am very shy because not everyone is nice to us strays. I am learning to play and

relax around people. I love to be petted and get along well with other cats. I would love a forever home with a family of my own. I really would love a family who would be pa-

tient with me and understand that I need a little time to ad-just to a new situation and new people. I have a lot of love in my heart but I'm still a little scared to show it. Would you

be willing to give me a chance? To adopt me, email [email protected] or call 910-330-1376.

I’m Lucy, and I’m looking for a man! Bunny man is okay, but human man is essential. My foster parents finally

figured out that I am very partial to men. I can tolerate women once

they prove themselves trustworthy to me, but males – I just love em! If

you’re a guy who loves rabbits, I will fawn all over you, love you, lay by your feet, make you laugh and beg

for attention. There’s nothing I won’t do to please you. So if you’re a guy, thinking you might like a big beautiful bunny for companionship, I’m your gal! I’m

spayed, litterbox-trained and weigh 8 pounds. Please contact Cape Fear House Rabbit Society by calling

910-471-7854 or emailing [email protected] to adopt us! You can also visit www.capefearrabbits.org

Hello! My name is Duke and I'm a Beagle of about 30 pounds who was rescued just hours from being put to sleep. I'm very loveable and I love to play with my toys and my foster dog-gies. I'm also used to being around cats. I'm about 4-year-old but you

would never know it by seeing me. I walk well on a leash and I'm house-trained. I'm looking for a home where I will be loved and will never have to worry

about being discarded. If you would like to meet me, please call Columbus Humane Society at 910-640-1505

or email [email protected].

MID-ATLANTIC GREAT DANE RESCUE LEAGUE

Hi, my name is Cooper and I am about 2 to 3-years-old. I'm a

handsome blue Great Dane look-ing for a foster home or a forever

home! I was surrendered by someone who only had me for a week. I have a lot of energy but I also know some commands like

sit, stay, down and even roll over! I do like to resource my food and toys so I will need someone will-ing to work with me. I love atten-tion and would prefer to be in a

home with someone there a lot. I have been told I am a fast learner and very good listener and would make someone a sweet boy. For more info

about me, contact the NC Chapter Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League by calling Terri at 252-566-8934 or visiting

www.magdrl.org.

If you are looking for a small, furry companion who is house-trained, crate-trained, can sit on command, use a doggie door, is excellent on a leash, and loves other dogs...then I’m your man!

I’m Riley, a 3-year-old mini-Schnauzer who weighs a mere

15 pounds. I’m a little shy around new people but I warm up imme-

diately in a loving environment. I have a bit of a Houdini side so a fenced-in yard is a must. In the house, I’ll be

snuggled up next to you on the couch. I’ll be a wonderful companion for a family that has another dog, a fenced-in yard, and huge hearts ready to love me! One thing non-negotiable is there cannot be any cats in my new home. Please visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org.

There you can fill out an application online and view other adoptable rescues. If you need an application mailed or

faxed to you, call 910-264-8300.

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS

Hey there.... me still.... Oreo here. Holidays have come and

gone and I'm still looking for my forever home. I don't un-

derstand why I have been "homeless" for so long. I'm

house-trained, love living with my foster sister (a Lab named Haley), like walks, and love to go for rides. I'm 3 to 4-years-old, up to date on all my shots, and neutered. Just waiting for

that special family to come along and give me a chance.

Is it you? If you are interested, please contact the Cape Fear Golden Retriever Rescue at 910-791-5001 or log

onto their website at www.cfgoldenrescue.com.

CAROLINA BORDER COLLIE RESCUE

My name is Early and I currently live with 5 other Border Collies. I love to play with toys, enjoy chasing balls

and I really like treats. I work on my house-training skills every day and I am getting better and better. I am

looking for a home where I can get a lot of attention and exercise. I do not like crates but to make up for it, I am warm and toasty when we cuddle on these cold winter nights. I like chil-

dren as long as they are not too young. To adopt me, please visit CBCR.org or call 919-682-6125 for more info about me or other Border Collie's available for adoption.

My name is Flame and I’m just 2-years old. I am an average size for a Greyhound, and just look at

me, muscles everywhere! I love to run in the yard at the kennel and

play with the other girls in my group. I sure would be happy to find someone who will give me a

wonderful, loving place to call home. I promise you won't be sorry, as I am so ready to give

hugs and kisses to my new family. Please contact Barbara at 910-540-9644 for more info on adopting me. You can view other greyhounds looking for

CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

Hi everyone, I am sweet Chloe

and sadly, my Mommy is

sick and could-n't take care of

me, so I am looking for a new home. I am a beautiful girl with fabu-

lous stockings and pretty Basset feet. I like my new foster family and playing with my new foster Basset sister.

Though my foster home is great, I'd love to have a new forever home. Ask about adopting me, Chloe. To make me a member of your family please call 919-708-4247 or

My name is Snoopy and I am a beautiful

Beagle and Blue Tick Hound mix. I am only 17 pounds and the vet

guesses that I am about 2½-years-old,

so I should stay about this weight for the rest of my life. My head

looks just like a Beagle and then my coat has the exact markings of a Blue

Tick! I was picked up by a caring person on

Highway 421 and the wonderful folks at Animal Control thought enough of me to get me into a foster home before my time was up. I am missing part of my ear because something

bit it off, but it doesn't bother me in the least. All I care about is having someone to snuggle up with on the couch, in the bed, or just about anywhere. I have a funny bark when I see squir-

rels and birds, but I can also be very quiet. I play well with other dogs, adore children of all ages, and am very passive by nature. Please call my foster mom, Grace, at 910-352-6256 if you would like to give me the forever home that I so wish for!!

My name is Abbey Mae. I found

myself in rescue

because my dad passed

away and my mom is unable to care for a dog by herself.

I am 7-years-old and sweet as can be. I love to please and

just hang out with my family, I get along great with other dogs, but I do enjoy chasing cats. I am fully vet-ted and ready to go to my next family, whether it be a foster family or adoptive family. I have lots of love to give and I love to be with my people! I’m still playful and have a zest for life! Please consider fostering or

adopting me. For more information, please visit www.blueridgeboxerrescue.com or contact Sonya at

[email protected] or call 864-419-5198.
