�is year’s Gathering of Authors will take place on Saturday, August 19, from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Woman’s Club of Frankfort (200 Washington Street). In the coming days, check out our website for a full listing of authors and bios. �is event is free and open to the public. Come out and join us, and see what some of Kentucky’s best have to o�er!
We’re partnering with local businesses to add even more value to your library card. By showing your card at select local businesses, you are eligible to receive their discounts.

�e Library is excited to host its tenth annual Gathering of Authors, a yearly celebration of Kentucky’s rich literary tradition where we host writers from across the Bluegrass.
But the Gathering isn’t just about the authors… it’s about you, the readers! �is event is an excellent opportunity for you to meet some of your favorite authors in a casual atmosphere. You can stop by, chat with this year’s participants, and pick up their newest releases which they

Chasing Shadows: The 2017 Total Solar Eclipse in America
August 7 • 6:30pm | A total eclipse of the Sun with a perfect view of the solar corona is possible from only one place in the solar system: Earth. On August 21st, the Sun’s disk will disappear for a maximum of 160 seconds. Where do I have to be to see it? How can I watch it safely? When will my next chance be to see a total eclipse? What can I expect to see? Join Tim Knauer, Director of the University of Kentucky’s MacAdam Student Observatory, as he answers these questions and more!

NASA Livestream: Solar Eclipse August 21 | All day | No registration required. On this day, a total solar eclipse will cross the entire United States for the �rst time since 1918. Over the course of 100 minutes, 14 states will experience more than 2 minutes of darkness in the middle of the day. Drop in and join us during NASA’s full live coverage of this rare event with observations from sites all over the country including airplanes, ground telescopes, and even high altitude balloons. All ages are welcome!

Wild Tales at Salato Wildlife Education Center August 4 • 11am | Salato Wildlife Education Center No registration required. Join the Library at the Salato Education Center for an animal adventure with stories featuring feathery, furry, and scaly friends. Admission into the Wild Tales program is free, just present your library card at the front desk. If you would like to tour the rest of the Salato Center a�er the program, general admission must be paid.
Introduction to Suzuki Violin August 8 • 6:30pm | No registration required. Children can learn about Suzuki violin and decorate their own box violin. Make a foot chart to discover how to set up a �rm foundation for holding a violin.
Frankfort and the Kentucky River with KSU August 11 • 2pm | Riverview Park No registration required. Frankfort has grown since its humble beginnings in 1786. At the end of the 1780s there were a couple hundred people, but the population is now over 25,000. Learn how the area has developed and how the growth has a�ected water quality with Kentucky State University’s Ed Wilcox.
