of new upper teeth fixed permanently on implants to solve his problems rapidly and painlessly.

Nick was determined not to wear a denture for the rest of his life, so he made the difficult decision to have his remaining upper teeth removed and implants fitted to support new teeth. We know this decision it is never taken lightly,

but patients have the assurance that we can replace the teeth rapidly and securely with a much better alternative –‘ instant implants and instant teeth’.

An Immediate Transformation

In a single visit, Nick was sedated while all his remaining upper teeth, and lower back teeth were removed and implants were put in their place. The next hour showed the most spectacular transformation. Impressions were taken and our team of skilled technicians worked with the surgeon to fabricate the new bridge that was placed immediately onto the implants. Nick walked away with a beautiful new set of fixed teeth the same morning.

Screw Retained Crowns and Bridges on ImplantsMost people are aware of the hollow crowns that are fixed onto teeth with cements and how over time this cement can fail causing the crown to become loose and even fall out. We use, wherever possible, a far more advanced method of attachment of implant crowns and bridges below the gum, which avoids the weak link of the cement. And as well as security, there are many other advantages to this technique including the health of the gums around implants. Using digital imaging and very sophisticated, computer enhanced milling, our crowns are manufactured to an exceptionally high accuracy not seen in other forms of dentistry. Each one is a complex piece of engineering with a small screw in the titanium core that rotates to hold the crown extremely securely to the implant. The crown’s tiny screw hole is then filled carefully with a material to make it invisible.

We pioneered this technique in 2008 and through our teaching programme many clinics are starting to copy the procedure. It requires great accuracy on the part of the surgeon who places the implant, as the screw hole has to be in the ideal place for the final crown. Have a look at our website for further information and pictures.

A Permanent Bridge

After three months of bone healing directly onto the titanium implants Nick was ready to have his new final bridge made. The utmost care was taken in all aspects of design taking into account factors such as how the teeth look in proportion to Nick’s face and lips; how the light reflects off the surfaces and the translucency of the crowns. The procedures all went according to plan and Nick was delighted with the level of care at every stage.

Instant Implants and Instant TeethIn many instances it is possible to remove a tooth and place an implant immediately into the extraction socket (an “instant implant”) and this is often the case near the front of the mouth.

It is often also possible to make a temporary crown at the time of implant placement which is attached immediately onto the implant (an “instant tooth”). This means that a patient may come in with a failing tooth, have it removed and an implant placed into the socket and a temporary crown fitted onto the implant - an instant implant and an instant tooth.

Patients love the speed and simplicity of treatment and the fact that they never need to wear a denture. Although not possible for every case, you will be told at your implant assessment whether this rapid form of treatment is an option for you.

Cont. from page 1 - ‘Nick the Smiler!’

Nick can now eat anything without fear, his confidence has returned and he now bounds into the practice to show off his teeth – we even had an email soon after the final bridge was fitted saying ‘I just can’t stop smiling!’

Secure dentures with mini implantsIf you are one of the thousands of people with lower dentures that never sit still, these mini implants can transform your life. They help to cut out all those return visits to the dentist and give you much greater flexibility in your choice of food.

Featured in the Daily Mail, this is one of the fastest, most cost-effective and satisfying transformations available in implantology today. Four mini implants are placed in the lower jaw and they secure the denture in place. The dentures still sit on the gums, but because they are held securely, the movements that can cause pain, ulceration and embarrassment are greatly reduced. Treatment only takes about 20-30 minutes and is painless, usually without incisions or stitches. The denture can then be clipped to the implants the same day providing immediate security and relief.

Since having the mini-implants, I have regained my confidence and can now eat out and socialise without any worries. I’m no longer nervous about my dentures.

For a cost-effective way of replacing many missing teeth, lower dentures can be held securely in place with implants, providing a great improvement from traditional removable dentures.

Meet the teamIn every newsletter we introduce you to some of the outstanding professionals who make up The Implant Centre team.

The laboratory – a critical linkToday, some of the greatest advances in science are being made in the field of dentistry and the implant laboratory is an absolutely critical part of this process.

We have an expert team of technicians working with us on-site at The Implant Centre, because patients, surgeons and restorative dentists must have complete confidence in the final product. Similarly, the technicians have to trust the quality of the work provided by the implant team.

In the last few years we have moved forward with laser digital imaging and milling techniques that make our laboratory work the most advanced in the field today. For example, we now use computerised designs to create personalised components for every patient. And amazingly, the technology which provides digital imaging of our patients’ teeth has advanced to the point where it will no longer be neccessary to take impressions of the mouth.

Can you spot the implant?Paula had lost confidence in her four front tooth bridge and had a continued struggle with a painful denture. Instant implants were placed and instant teeth were fabricated and fitted within an hour.

Before treatment

Temporary bridge unscrewed

Paula returned after a week reassured at having experienced absolutely no discomfort. Despite monitoring her diet until the implants were fully integrated, she was excited by how much better food tasted and felt.

The porcelain bridge was fitted and held in place with microscrews for stability.

After treatment

At no stage during treatment did she leave without teeth in place and they were always fixed to the implants rather than resorting to dentures. Like many of our patients she was delighted with the outcome and wished she had started treatment years ago.
