[54] APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLED DEPLOYMENT OF SHAPE-CONFORMINGMATERIALS [57] Abstract: An apparatus and method for filling a defined space, such as an annulusaround a production tubularwithin a wellbore, includes a compliant porous material. The compliant porous material can be compressed andmaintained in a compressed state by incorporation of a deployment modifier, which may be a water-soluble or oil-solubleadhesive or biopolymer, used as an impregnant, a coating, or a casing. The production tubular can be positioned at adesired location and the compliant porous material exposed to a deployment modifier neutralizing agent, which thendissolves or otherwise prevents the deployment modifier from continuing to inhibit deployment. Thus, deployment canbe delayed to an optimum time by preventing exposure of the deployment modifier to the deployment modifierneutralizing agent. [54] AGGLOMERATED ZEOLITIC ADSORBENTS, THEIR PRODUCTION PROCESS AND THEIR USES [57] Abstract: The present invention relates to agglomerated zeolitic adsorbents based on zeolite X with an Si/Al ratiosuch that 1.15 < Si/Al ? 1.5 and consisting of crystals with a mean diameter 1.7 µm or less and an inert binder, at least90% of the exchangeable cationic sites of the zeolite X of which are occupied by barium ions They may be obtained byagglomerating zeolite X powder with a mean particle diameter of 1.7 µm or less with a binder, followed by zeolitization ofthe binder, exchange of the zeolite ions with barium (and potassium) ions and activation of the adsorbents thusexchanged. These adsorbents exhibit, simultaneously, a selectivity, a reduced mass transfer resistance and amechanical strength that are excellent, which adsorbents are particularly suitable for adsorbing para-xylene containedin C8 aromatic hydrocarbon fractions in liquid phase in processes of a simulated moving bed type, and especially forseparating para-xylene from C8 aromatic hydrocarbon fractions by adsorption, but also for separating sugars, polyhydric alcohols, cresols, and substituted toluene isomers.. [54] IMPROVED DISPERSION ESTIMATION BY NONLINEAR OPTIMIZATION OF BEAM-FORMED FIELDS [57] Abstract: A method for estimating velocity dispersion in seismic surface waves in massive 3-D data sets (401) thatimproves upon auto-picking of a curve along the peak or ridge of the magnitude of the beam-formed field (402). Theseismic data are transformed to the frequency-slowness domain, where nonlinear constrained optimization is performedon the transformed data. The optimization matches a nonlinear mathematical parametric model (403) of a beam-formedfield to that in the transformed data, adjusting the parameters each iteration to reduce mismatch (404). Dispersioncurves are determined by the center of the beam in the optimized models (405). A preferred nonlinear parametricmathematical model is a Gaussian-shaped beam or a cosine-tapered boxcar beam.
