Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence.

According to Canon Law, the law of fasting allows only one full meal or two small meals a day and the law of abstinence forbids the use of meat. Roman Catholics, 14 years of age and older, are bound to abstain from meat. Disabled or feeble, pregnant women and nursing mothers are exempt. Through fasting we humble ourselves before God and turn ourselves toward our merciful Lord.

Easter is just around the corner, and you may know a little one who will be getting plenty of jelly beans and chocolate bunnies in their Easter basket….but if you want to give a child something that will last long after the candy is gone, consider a Children’s Bible of Stories of the Saints. It might be the gift of a lifetime.

Come in or visit our website at: www.olacathedralgifts.com The Cathedral Gift Shop is entirely owned and operated by the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Your purchases directly benefit the Cathedral and its mission. We are grateful for your patronage.

DID YOU KNOW? Parents should be aware of laundry pod dangers

Risks to children’s safety come in many shapes and sizes. As parents and caring adults, inappropriate adult conduct is not the only risk to watch for; we must also create safe environments to protect children from other risks. One possible threat comes from the small soft plastic pods that hold laundry detergent. The pods are brightly colored, and often attract young children who may mistake them for candy or other foods and according to studies, children who ingest these pods or been exposed to them could be-come ill and need to be hospitalized.

For more information, request a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Detergent Pods” from [email protected] or (213) 637-7227.

¿SABIA USTED?
