HowtoreadtabTABisshortforTablature.It’saquickerwaytoillustrateideasandguitarriffswiththeemphasisongettingyouplayingthingsquickerwhenyouarefirststartingout.IntimewewillgetaroundtoreadingconventionalnotationbutTABhasitsusesevenafterthebeginningsoflearningtheguitar.SomesubtlethingslikeslidesintoandthebendingofnotesareeasiertoreadonTABcomparedtotheconventionalstave.LetstakealookattheblankTABstave:
Iwantyoutofocusonthelowerstave(thathasTABwrittenacrossit)wehave6lines,eachoftheselinesrepresentsastring.Startingwiththelineatthebottom,thisisourlowEstring(thickestandlowestpitch)thenextlineupistheAstringtheoneafterthatistheD.aswemoveupthelinesontheTABwemovethroughtheopenstringsoftheguitarlikeso:
Asyoucanseeaswemoveupthelinesonthestavewemoveupthroughthestrings.ThelinesplittingthestaveinhalfiscalledaBAR.Barssplitthenotationintomorebitesizedchunksmakingiteasiertoread.
