NounsNOUNS name a person, place, thing, or idea.
Road signs that have important information are yellow.
NOUNS carry important information in a sentence. Almost every sentence has a
NOUN.
VerbsA VERB shows action. It shows what a
NOUN is doing.
Road signs that have very important information on them are orange.
VERBS are very important in a sentence. Every sentence must have a VERB.
PrepositionsPREPOSITIONS show the relationship of
one thing to another.
AdjectivesAn ADJECTIVE is a word that describes a
NOUN.
ADJECTIVES answer the following questions
What kind?How many?Which one? brown couch
twelve pencils
that girl
AdverbsAn ADVERB is a word that describes a VERB.
It tells
how?
when? or
where?
the action takes place.

PronounsA PRONOUN takes the place of a NOUN. It
refers to a person, place, thing, or idea.
Linking VerbsLINKING VERBS link or connect a subject
with a complement.
They do not show action.
The man is a dentist.
They are friends.
