Pixar Mechanical InstituteThe new Discovery Center is a destination where kids help create amazing
new cars following the steps real automotive designers use. A different Pixar
CARS character is the liaison at each station, with Mater as the primary
guide. Another new feature introduced in the museum will be the CARS
augmented reality experience. It will allow visitors to do simple, fun and
exciting things with cars exhibited on the museum’s Industry floor, via the
technological wonder of a tablet.

Ford GTThe Petersen will be the exclusive home of the prototype Ford GT Supercar.
The new GT’s technological evolution will be displayed, dating back to the Le
Mans-winning 1966 Ford GT. This will be the only “permanent” installation for
the new GT Supercar before the car hits Ford showrooms in late 2016.

Our MissionTo explore and present the history of the automobile and its impact on
American life and culture using Los Angeles as the prime example.
New MuseumWith an outstanding location, an extraordinary collection, and an enduring
place in the hearts of the people of Los Angeles, the Petersen Automotive
Museum has earned its credentials among the most respected car museums
in America. Fueled by this reputation, but certain that the Petersen’s best
days are still ahead, a new and inspired leadership team has envisioned
a New Petersen—a museum poised to take the lead as one of the premier
museum attractions in the world. The Petersen Automotive Museum has
embarked on an exciting planning and re-imagining process that will have
both immediate and long-term implications.
Community & EducationThere is nothing more important at the Petersen Automotive Museum than
education. We aim to build a community by being an educational resource
for local schools, institutions, organizations, and groups, facilitating life-long
learning, growth, and a lasting relationship between these public groups and
the museum.

Our Current ProgressTo mark its 20 year anniversary, the Petersen Automotive Museum
embarked upon a masterful transformation. By December 2015, its doors will
be open yet again as the new Petersen stands as a powerful reminder that
the automobile holds an unmatched status in Southern California.
