Role

Partnership Development Officer (PDO) of the Common Ground in Sacred Space Project

Background

The PDO will, in the first instance, be contracted by the Cathedral Church of St Nicholas as part of the Common Ground in Sacred Space Project (CGISS) Development Phase. For further details about the Cathedral and its CGISS Project, see attached ‘CGISS Background Information’

Role Overview

The aim of the PDO role is to develop a more joined-up working relationship between the Cathedral, the Castle and other Heart of the City Partnership (HOCP - Old Newcastle) partners, and assist with the development of key heritage and business strategic aims for the partner organisations.

The outputs of the PDO role will lay the foundations for the Director of Operations of the Cathedral and the HOCP’s Development Manager to develop their strategic aims for business growth and long-term sustainability. This may include (but not be limited to) events, learning opportunities and identifying key areas for development between the Old Newcastle partners.

The post is funded by a Heritage Lottery Fund Development Grant and is for a fixed term contract of one year.

Key relationships

The PDO will report to the Common Ground in Sacred Space Project Manager.

Her or his other key relationships will be with the Cathedral’s Operations Director, the HOCP Development Manager and the HOCP Learning Officer. They will also include the Development Director of The North of England Institute of Mining and the Director of Operations of Newcastle NE1 Business Improvement District Company.

Key Tasks

Identifying and planning partnership working opportunities between Newcastle Cathedral and the HOCP – such as guided tours, self-guided trails, pan-site interpretation, publicity materials, marketing and promotion activity, events, group bookings and development of

learning opportunities to strengthen the visitor offer.

Data gathering – for example, surveying all types of businesses in the Old Newcastle area to provide profiling of market segments (e.g. hotels, public sector, office-based businesses, residential areas) as well as gathering data to enhance the marketing function of both organisations.

Identifying key stakeholder groups or sectors within Old Newcastle and the opportunities they present for engagement (identifying specific methods of engagement, as well as risk/impact/return/timescale etc).

Working with marketing partners NE1 Ltd and NewcastleGateshead Initiative to provide overview of visitor profile to Old Newcastle; supplementing this with further analysis of market research already undertaken by both partners; identifying key visitor segments (UK tourists, overseas visitors, local people etc).

Organising a number of engagement/networking opportunities for businesses across Old Newcastle (e.g. informal drinks reception in the Black Gate)

Final report to include SWOT analysis for areas for both organisations to focus on (identifying joint and solo-organisation opportunities)….in terms of strategic direction, capacity and budget planning.

Programme and monitoring

The specific task-programme will be set by the Director of Operations for the Cathedral and the HOCPs Development Manager.

There will be monthly assessment meetings which will be attended and managed by both of the above (who will then meet quarterly with the CGISS Project Manager).

Reports can be made available through the CGISS Project Manager to the HOCP Board/Business Management Group.

Additional Information

The PDO will be based in Cathedral House (the Cathedral’s offices) with hot-desking at the Black Gate as and when appropriate.

IT hardware and support will be provided by the Cathedral.

Terms of Employment

Contract Status This post is offered as a half time fixed term contract for one year andis subject to a three month probationary period.

Salary £22,500 (pro rata) per annum

Pension If eligible, the Cathedral will enrol you into the NEST Pension Scheme, in accordance with pension law. An employee’s minimum contribution is 1% (2017/18), 3% (2018/19), 5% (2019/20). You can contribute as much as they wish, but the Cathedral will only match contributions up to 4%. The contributions are based on basic salary.You have the right to opt out of the scheme if you do not wish to be a member. Whilst participating in the scheme, however, you agree to pension contributions being deducted from your salary. If you cease to be a member of the scheme for any reason, the Cathedral will re-enrol you automatically into a pension scheme as and when required by law.

Hours of Work The post is offered on a half-time basis, working 18.5 hours per week. The normal office hours are 8.30 am to 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday with half hour unpaid lunch break.

Annual Leave The leave year runs from 1st January to 31st December. Full time staff receive 25 days paid leave per leave year (pro rata for part time staff)exclusive of 8 bank and public holidays.
