MTSS stands for Multi tiered system of support. Described below you will find our MTSS Math model. This

design was put together with intention to better support our homeschool families, reduce the level of anxiety

associated with math, and improve learning.

Tier 1— all homeschool students

Detailed Pacing Guides— are available for each grade level and may be accessed on our website:

https://www.kesd.org/cvhs

Math Classes—will continue to be offered on Fridays at CVHS for 6,7,8th grade students. One key shift

is that we will not be teaching strictly out of the textbook,. We will provide concept instruction and oppor-

tunities to deepen our students learning. This does not take the place of what is happening at home, rather

it supplements and reinforces it. This also allows us to include students who are working at different paces

or in different curriculums.

Tier 2—students who tend to struggle with math

Diagnostic Testing -allows us to pinpoint the gaps in learning. With this information, we know where to

provide intervention.

Study Station—a weekly opportunity for students to attend tutoring. Students must have attempted the

work and are expected to come prepared with questions.

Tier 3—students struggling even with above listed supports

TAT Process—Teachers will meet w/ parent and additional staff to troubleshoot the learning concern.

We will document the conversations as well as interventions and glean data to continue to assist in sup-

porting the student.

Alternative Curriculum—If applicable, we can assign out of grade level curriculum to allow the student

to gain confidence. If this happens the grade level appropriate curriculum pace would slow down.

Math Meets—Students will focus on just one lacking skill/concept at a time. Intervention curriculum will

be provided and students will check in weekly to ensure progress is being made towards mastery of goals.

Guitar—Mr. Aguirre is back on Fridays beginning 9/6/19. He will provide weekly group lessons in Ukelele

(k/1) and guitar. Students will be expected to practice daily.

Invention Convention—Students will learn about inventors, find an idea, research and plan, develop and

test, and then unveil their invention in this engaging cross curricular opportunity CVHS teachers will facili-

tate.

Makerspace—A weekly chance for students to come onsite and explore making. Students will have 45 min

of instruction related to STEM as well as be provided additional time to utilize our high tech and low tech

equipment. This is facilitated by a California Teaching Fellow.

Strength and Movement—Miss Carender will get students both moving and strengthening their bodies.

Comfortable, workout type clothing is preferred.
