We are privileged to have you join us in our work with students. One of our Core Values is the maintenance of a safe and secure environment for our students. This short powerpoint will detail your responsibilities when you are working with WCCS students, as a volunteer or as a school employee. At the end of this slide show, there is a short quiz. Please print out the quiz, complete it and return to Deb Sheets in our central office. You must have a completed quiz on file prior to being called for a guest teacher position. 1Table Of ContentsBullying Legislation and Requirements of Teaching Staff3 - 6Building School Safety/Security Plans7 - 9Final Quiz10

Current bullying legislation and the responsibilities tied to that legislation for any school employee and maintaining the security of our students through adherence to our school safety plans2Indiana Law Places New Requirements on School Employees to Notice and Report Bullying

Nam dapibus, nisi sit amet pharetra consequat, enim leo tincidunt nisi, eget sagittis mi tortor quis ipsum. Indiana legislators responded to increased threat of bullying in schools by passing legislation in 2013 that requires schools to enact bullying prevention programs and to report incidents of bullying. Reports of bullying can be made by anonymously, by a student, by a parent, or by any adult working in the building. If you witness a bullying incident, or an incident that looks like a bullying incident, or a student or parent verbally reports a bullying incident to you, then you are required to report this to the principal or his/her designee. Any school employee who fails to report an incident of bullying or fails to forward a student report to administration will be subject to disciplinary measures.3What is Bullying?"Bullying" means overt, unwanted, repeated acts or gestures, including verbal or written communications or images transmitted in any manner (including digitally or electronically), physical acts committed, aggression, or any other behaviors, that are committed by a student or group of students against another student with the intent to harass, ridicule, humiliate, intimidate, or harm the other targeted student and create for the targeted student an objectively hostile school environment that:(1) places the targeted student in reasonable fear of harm to the targeted student's person or property;(2) has a substantially detrimental effect on the targeted student's physical or mental health;(3) has the effect of substantially interfering with the targeted student's academic performance; or(4) has the effect of substantially interfering with the targeted student's ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, and privileges provided by the school.://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXXKMehgiAk

"Bullying" (per IC 20-33-8-.2) means overt, unwanted, repeated acts or gestures, including verbal or written communications or images transmitted in any manner (including digitally or electronically), physical acts committed, aggression, or any other behaviors, that are committed by a student or group of students against another student with the intent to harass, ridicule, humiliate, intimidate, or harm the other targeted student and create for the targeted student an objectively hostile school environment that: Read 1, 2, 3, and 4

Bullying fosters a climate of fear and disrespect that can seriously impair the physical and psychological health of its victims and create conditions that negatively affect learning. Bullying includes unwanted, aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. The imbalance of power involves the use of physical strength, or popularity to access embarrassing information to control or harm others. Bullying can occur anywhere (in-school or outside of school) and at any time both during and after school hours. Bullying can include physical bullying, verbal bullying, social/relational bullying, and electronic/written communication. 4What is your obligation to our students?PUBLIC SAFETYADVISORhttp://www.stopbullying.gov/image-gallery/what-you-need-to-know-infographic.pdf

Nam dapibus, nisi sit amet pharetra consequat, enim leo tincidunt nisi, eget sagittis mi tortor quis ipsum. You have the obligation to report any bullying that you witness or that is reported to you by another staff member, student, or parent to building administration.Neglecting to do so in a timely manner may result in dismissal from your position. The procedure for reporting bullying is to complete a WCCS bullying report form (which should be available to you in the office) or speak directly to a building administrator. Please do not tell another staff member and ask him/her to report the situation for you, unless that person was also present and saw the event in question or was present and heard the report from a student. You WILL NOT investigate, just report.

Drills

1.4.2.3.

5.Nam dapibus, nisi sit amet pharetra consequat, enim leo tincidunt nisi, eget sagittis mi tortor quis ipsum. Fire: In the event of a fire or a fire drill, the fire alarms will sound and blink. Remain calm. Take a seating chart or list of students. Lead the children to safety by following the exit routes, watching and feeling for warm doors or smoke. Listen for further instructions. Tornado: In the event of a tornado or a tornado drill, a series of short bell sounds will be heard. Take a seating chart or list of students. Immediately seat children in the defensive position in their designated locations of the building. Students in wheelchairs and those with special needs will receive additional evacuation assistance by staff. Earthquake: In the event of an earthquake or an earthquake drill, a verbal announcement will be made via the intercom system. Immediately have children take cover under desks or tables and turn away from windows. Children in wheelchairs need to be positioned in doorways. Avoid large bookcases, etc. as they might fall. Remain in sheltered positions until signaled by intercom or verbal announcement. Remain silent and listen to instructions. Evacuate building only upon verbal instructions to do so using fire exits. Lockdown: In the event of a lockdown, the principal or designee gives the districts signal. Immediately clear halls and unsecured common areas of all students. (Students proceed to the nearest safe location with the nearest supervising personnel. Staff must list names of all students within that location and account for their presence throughout the emergency.) CLOSE AND LOCK DOORS AND WINDOWS. NO ONE LEAVES AND NO ONE ENTERS SECURED AREAS. Lockdown concludes only with notification from administration or law enforcement. All procedures are included in flip book located near the doorway of each classroom. Routes are also posted near doorway of the classroom in which you are subbing. 8Carry your building access device (key or card) at all times. Room door remains locked at all times.

Nam dapibus, nisi sit amet pharetra consequat, enim leo tincidunt nisi, eget sagittis mi tortor quis ipsum. 9Lock-downRemember two typesEach type has differentproceduresWhen the building is under a RED lock-down, you DO NOT open your door FOR ANY REASON! NOT EVEN FOR A STUDENT!

Students and staff must remain quiet, away from doors and windows, with door barricaded until Administrator comes around and unlocks the door.Circumstance requiring emergency first aid; danger is outside the building, but not imminent; the possibility exists for red lockdownDanger is inside the building and threat is imminent

Two types of lock-downs yellow and redYellow lock down is a lock down that signals the danger is outside the building, is not imminent, but may be upgraded to a red lockdown. Red lockdown is a lockdown that signals the danger is inside the building and threat is imminent. Signal: A lockdown will be signaled by an administrator or designated staff member only. Once a lockdown is deemed necessary, the following announcement will come over the P.A. System:School is now under a (Yellow or Red) Lockdown. You must take the following steps based on which type of lock down.
