WEEK 5 TERM 2 Commencing Monday 25th May 2020-RECONCILIATION WEEK
Welcome to Week 5 of the most unique Term 2 in the history of our school. Today marked the resumption of full time schooling for our entire student body, and we are extremely excited to have the children back, filling our classrooms and playgrounds with excitement. The recommencement of full time schooling will in many ways be similar to the start of the school year, and as such, we all need to be aware that children may be anxious and apprehensive and may well take time to settle into new routines, and also take time to get re-acquainted with peers and staff. We are mindful of all of these scenarios and will work hard to ensure all children experience a positive and rewarding return to school experience. As communicated previously via email and our social media streams, there are many things for all stakeholders to consider as part of a return to full time schooling. A reminder of the most important elements of the return to school process is included on page 5 of the newsletter. The new week promises to be an extremely busy, exciting and meaningful one at Parkview Public School. Please consider the following as you plan your week: National Reconciliation Week In any other year, we would be preparing for one of our biggest weeks of the year, Reconciliation Week. Whilst at the moment we are unable to host our normal community events, it is important that we still acknowledge the significance of Reconciliation Week.
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for National Reconciliation Week remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander peoples.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week – In this together – is now resonating in ways we could not have foreseen when the theme was announced last year, but it reminds us whether in a crisis or in reconciliation we are all in this together.
Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and futures. We are extremely proud of the positive relationships and cultural experiences that we benefit from at Parkview Public School and look forward to acknowledging this in a meaningful way when restrictions have lifted.

Notes in last week: COVID-19 Updates (email and social
media)
Kindergarten 2021 Transition Information has commenced being distributed for Kindergarten 2021 Transition, with our Kindergarten 2021 Prospectus and Registration Form being distributed to all members of our community and Early Childhood agencies this week, ahead of our Parent Information Sessions for Kinder 2021 being hosted at the school on Wednesday, 17th June at 2pm and 7pm. We encourage all families considering or intending on enrolling their children at Parkview PS for 2021 and beyond to return your Kinder 2021 Transition registration forms so the school can commence allocating resources for this program.
If you didn’t receive your Kindergarten 2021 Transition Prospectus or require another for yourself or a friend, please contact the School Administration Office.
School Improvements We have taken the opportunity during the COVID-19 shutdown period to make some much needed improvements in many areas around the school, while there are a number of projects in the pipeline for the remainder of the 2020 school year. Below is an update for our community on the changes that have been implemented in and around the school in recent times. *Library upgrade: The School Library has undergone somewhat of a facelift with the installation of neutral coloured display fabric for all walls as well as new blinds that have been installed to enhance the experiences of students in this learning space. We still have more plans for this area in coming months to further cater for staffing needs.
*Seating: Outdoor seating has been installed outside of the KE/ KN Rooms, 2C/ 2B Rooms and also in the COLA area adjacent to the staff car park for students to utilise.
*Bag Hooks: A significant number of additional bag hooks have been installed across the school to ensure every child has an elevated place to hang their bags should they choose to do so.
*Blinds: All permanent buildings have received new blinds to enhance the natural light capabilities of learning spaces. We are in the process of examining our options for similar upgrades in the demountable buildings.
*Doors: We have undertaken a significant upgrade of all of our timber sliding doors and screen sliding doors in classrooms to ensure they are safe and functional for all children and staff members. In addition to this we have installed a number of security doors across the school which will not only enhance security but will also enable better cross ventilation in a number of spaces.
*iPad fleet expansion: We continue to acquire the best possible technological resources for our students and staff, and this has been underlined by the acquisition of a further 30 iPads for children and adults to utilise in our learning environments.
*New shipping container: In recent times we acquired a new shipping container that will assist with reducing the storage challenges we have within in the school. We thank Mr Graeme Dale who generously volunteered his welding skills and time to assist the school in finalising security for this new acquisition.
*School Grounds: Our school grounds continue to be enhanced thanks to the tireless efforts of Mr Bruce Staines. Our facilities for the kids to use are in great condition thanks to Mr Staines’ efforts. We greatly appreciate the surrounds that the children and staff are able to enjoy!
*Roofing Restoration Project: Parkview PS will undergo a major roofing restoration commencing in Week 9 of the term (June 22) with the aim of the all roofs of permanent buildings in the school (with the exception of the Hall) being renovated prior to the commencement of Term 3. Because of the project there will be some internal changes that will be required for the functionality of the school. We will communicate this closer to the commencement date.

COVID-19 Return to School Guidelines All schools are returning to full on-campus learning from Monday 25 May. All school activities and operations will be in line with Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and NSW Health guidelines as applicable. School students do not need to follow strict adult physical distancing guidelines, but should follow good hygiene practices like:
regularly washing hands
avoiding sharing drinks or food
coughing or sneezing into your elbow, or a tissue which should be discarded immediately School attendance All students should be at school unless:
they have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition
they are currently unwell. – please contact the school if you are unsure. School resources Children are requested to bring along all school resources that are required for learning. This means: *BYOD 3-6 – Students in Years 3-6 should bring their own device to school if they have completed the necessary permission slips. This should happen every day. *BYOD K-2 – Students in K-2 who have been bringing their devices to school during recent weeks no longer need to do this. *School Devices and Dongles – Families who borrowed School Devices and Dongles were asked to return these to school today (Monday, 25th May). If you are yet to complete this, please do so as a matter of urgency. These devices form an important part of our technological fleet and your prompt assistance with this is appreciated. Devices will be collected from your child’s classroom and should not be handed to the School Administration Office. School activities Teachers will continue to follow the same school curriculum with the exception of some activities that can’t go ahead for now. What children can do
Use the school library – borrowing will not recommence at Parkview PS until at least June 1. We will communicate more about this next week.
Engage in non-contact sporting activities – the Sports Shed will be open for the borrowing of equipment for non-contact sports from Monday.
What students can’t do
School assemblies (unless for critical information) – there will be no Monday Morning Assemblies or Friday K-2/ 3-6 Assemblies until further notice.
School incursions and excursions including camps
Inter-school activities (debating, inter-school sport)
In-school activities requiring parent or other volunteers

School Uniform Children are encouraged to wear full winter uniform when they return to school on Monday, with Sports Uniform reserved for Fridays (unless otherwise advised). - Please note that we are aware the School Uniform Shop is currently experiencing a delay in the receival of goods linked directly to the COVID-19 Pandemic. If you are one of the families patiently waiting for your order to arrive, we apologise for the inconvenience and encourage students to wear their green school tracksuits as a substitute to keep children warm until their uniform order arrives. School cleaning and hygiene supplies Our school will receive additional cleaning in line with the AHPPC guidelines and advice from NSW Health. Target areas include high-touch areas and other hard surfaces, door handles, lockers, light switches and handrails in stairways and movement areas. There will also be additional cleaning of toilets and bubblers and topping up of supplies like soap. Our school has received supplies of soap, hand sanitiser, toilet paper, paper towels, disinfectant wipes and personal protective equipment and we will order more as required. School grounds There should be no visitors to school sites unless they are essential. As a result of this directive, unfortunately we are unable to invite volunteers into the classroom and cannot host Winhangara Playgroup until further notice.
When you are in the school to visit the School Administration Office and the Uniform Shop, please adhere to social distancing rules and observe ground markings that aim to maintain the expected 1.5m distancing between adults who are at the school. Pick up and drop off procedures Our drop off and pick up points and times remain the same. We encourage parents and carers who are driving to school to utilise the Tennis Club car park and over flow area on the old Basketball Court site to pick up and drop off children. Please ensure your children are clear on where they are being collected from if this represents a change in routine for you. If parking in surrounding streets please be mindful of signage and take special care near the sign posted ‘Children Crossing’ areas on Park Ave and Lilac Ave. Parents are requested to remain outside the school grounds and not congregate in groups while waiting for children. Please observe social distancing protocols. Canteen and Uniform Shop The Parkview P&C Canteen will operate 5 days a week from Monday, 25th May. A new winter menu is attached to this newsletter. The Uniform Shop will continue to operate Mondays 9am-10am and Thursdays 2pm-3pm or by appointment. Please contact the School Administration Office for a registration form. School Banking-TEMPORARILY CEASED Notice from CommBank School Banking The health, safety and wellbeing of our communities and our people is our first priority. Due to the rapidly developing situation with coronavirus, School Banking has been temporarily paused from 20 March 2020 until further notice. Please don’t bring your deposit book with your weekly banking into school and we will notify you when banking will recommence. Winhangara Playgroup 0-5 Years – TEMPORARILY CEASED Winhangara Playgroup has been temporarily ceased as the school works with the Department of Education and NSW Health around the most appropriate strategies to implement in schools to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. We will keep our participants updated regarding a return of our playgroup as soon as we can recommence it. We will continue to keep our community informed of changes to events as they become available. Golden Apple Docket Fundraiser A huge thank you is extended to the generous owners of the Golden Apple Supa IGA who have again made a significant donation to our school community via their Shopper Docket Fundraiser. School received a cheque for just shy of $1,000 which directly reflects the shopper dockets that have been received by the school throughout the 2019 School Year. To help us raise even more money in 2020, please keep your Golden Apple shopping dockets and place them in the container at the front office. This is a great way to raise funds for our students. Parkview Public School receives 5c from every ten dollars collected.
