Home Learning Grid w/c 29th June
Parks and Gardens
Please work through the activities below using your home
learning book to record your work. Parents, if you have any queries about these tasks, or if you
want to upload photos or work for the teachers to look through, remember to contact us through
your class’ home learning email address!
Science 1 Let’s think about forces we
find in playground and theme parks.
For EYFS and KS1 children, watch the short clip here:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zvj8q6f
Use the KS1 slides to think about the pushes and pulls used on different types of
playground equipment. Can you draw a park with
some pushes and pulls labelled?
KS2 children can find out more about rollercoaster forces such as G-Force in
this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AzHwNLxl_4&vl=
en Then answer the questions on the KS2 activity sheet: https://www.sidmouth-
primary.devon.sch.uk/parks-and-gardens/
Art One artist who is famous
for his paintings of gardens is Monet. Read through the slides about Monet, with examples of
his work, here: https://www.sidmouth-
primary.devon.sch.uk/parks-and-gardens/
Have a go at painting with your fingers, or with cotton buds for detail, in
a Monet style as the slides suggest! You could use the outline provided in the folder or you could design your own park or garden themed picture.
Geography National Parks are
protected areas because of their beautiful countryside,
wildlife and cultural heritage. There are 15 in
the UK. Use the map here and see if you find out the
names of the National Parks to match. Which
National Park is closest to us?
https://www.sidmouth-primary.devon.sch.uk/park
s-and-gardens/ Or
National Parks are visited by many thousands of
tourists each year. Read the information here:
https://www.nationalparks.uk/students/ourchallenges/tourism/beasustainable_tourist and design a poster to encourage people to follow
the Countryside Code.
DT Can you create your own fairground or playground ride? You can use junk
modelling materials:
Can you create movement using hinges,
levers or pulleys?
French Watch the video here and try to learn some French words relating to gardens
and plants. https://www.youtube.com/
watch?v=wTm4B4r68V0 Can you label a picture of a park or garden with some
of these French words?
You could challenge yourself by adding colour
words too. Remember that in French, adjectives like colour words come after the noun, so a red flower would be une fleur rouge.
PE Set yourself a challenge of getting out and about for
some daily physical activity next week. Keep a record of what you achieve, set
yourself targets to be faster or to run further.
You could look through the
challenges here: https://www.ukschoolrun.com/enterarace/prod_7123
101-Virtual-Activity-and-Tracker-Challenge.html
and earn yourself a certificate for a very small
charge.
Science 2 During the week, find a
time to go for a walk, perhaps to The Byes or to Connaught Gardens. Use the identification sheets
here to see what different trees and flowers you can
spot in our local area: https://www.sidmouth-
primary.devon.sch.uk/parks-and-gardens/
You could take photos to
record your finds, or collect different leaves (only those that have fallen!) to make a collage or do rubbings with.
PSHE Going to places like
playgrounds, funfairs and theme parks can take us out of our comfort zone.
We might feel scared about trying something new and
taking a risk.
Think of a time when you have felt fear, when doing something new has made you feel scared, but you have found the courage
and conquered it!
Can you write or draw about this experience?
Parks and Gardens! Friday Fun!
Remember you can use Fridays to catch up on any of the activities from the grid
above that you haven’t managed to fit in during the week. But if you need
some other ideas, here are some extra challenges!
Get creative Draw a design of your
dream garden. What things would you
like to include? To climb on? To sit on? To play
with? What flowers and trees would you
include? Let your imagination go wild,
research on the computer or in
magazines for ideas and then draw a plan like the
one below of your garden. Make sure you
label it!
Get imaginative You have a job
at Crealy and your first task is to design a new ride. Draw the ride and
label it to explain what it does. Write three
sentences encouraging visitors to go on the
ride.
Or
Design a poster for a new
theme park. You will need to come up with the name of your park
and think about whether there is a particular theme. It could be a
water park/ linked to a cartoon character or computer game... the
choice is yours! Your poster will need to
attract people’s attention so that they
want to visit. Think about using pictures and bright
colours.
Get cooking Choose a park or garden location for a picnic or an afternoon tea with your
family.
