Centenarian in our Home

Dolly Webb turned 100 in July! She had a party

to celebrate at Parklands with more than 50

family and staff joining in the celebration. Dolly

who has been a resident in Parklands for six

years, was spoilt with champagne and gifts and a

buffet spread fit for a queen. Dolly received her

card from the Queen, which she will cherish.

Dolly’s secret to her longevity is: “to keep

physically and mentally active”, a mantra she

has followed since she was young. This is

evident when she joins in any activity that is

organised in the home. From flower arranging,

to singing and exercising.

A well- loved resident in the Home, Dolly has

five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren

and one great, great grandchild.

Pampering session with Colleen

Wednesdays are pampering days as Colleen

attends to residents’ hair. Armed with her tongs,

brush, dryers and all the other gear needed for a

good set, the ladies particularly look forward to

their Wednesday sessions.

Going for Gold

Parklands Care Home is excited to be working

towards the Gold Standard Framework (GSF)

which once accredited would mean that the

Home is providing gold standard care to

residents especially at the end of Life.

Throughout our lives we are constantly making

plans. Some are daily activities, others bigger

plans such as moving house, our careers and

later on, retirement plans. Whatever stage we

are in life, we always have a plan up our sleeve.

Gold Standard Framework focuses on planning

in advance, and giving residents a say on their

wishes when they approach their nd of Life.

For many it’s not something they want to

discuss, but it is necessary as it puts in place

their wishes of where and how they wish to be

cared for. For family members who may have

had the conversation with their mum or dad

before, there will be that understanding that

they would prefer to be cared for in the Home

and not a hospital. They may have decided that

they would like their family around them, and

they may exercise their wish to be seen by a

religious clergy for example. Whatever their

wishes, putting it all down on paper, advance

care planning, allows us at Parklands to be

proactive in carrying out residents’ wishes. In

many cases, it reduces hospital admissions as

well. For example, someone who may have

pneumonia, could be treated in the Home with

GP’s input rather than be sent to hospital. GSF

assures residents and family members that from

the time a resident comes to us at Parklands, we

will provide the best possible care, right till the

end.

If you would like more information about the

Gold Standard Framework and what it means, or

would like to have that advance care planning

discussion, do come in and see a member of the

senior team or Veronica.

Our aim is to offer all residents and/or their

family members, the opportunity to discuss

advance care planning for their loved ones.

Ultimately ensuring gold standard care right till

the end.

TIMES

Vamos Theatre Presented :

Sharing Joy

Vamos Theatre, came along one sunny June

afternoon, to entertain us with their highly

acclaimed performance: Sharing Joy. Sponsored

by the Redditch County Council, the hour long

performance brought back to residents a time

when Matron ruled the ward, and days of the

swing, rock and roll, and men returning from

war to marry their sweethearts. With their full

mask theatrical performance, their stories were

laced with lots of interaction with the audience

which brought much laughter.

The residents thoroughly enjoyed it. The Home’s

GP Dr Franklin, also attended the performance,

as well as Councillor Jane Potter of the Redditch

Borough Council. Both of whom enjoyed the

experience. Resident Dolly said : “it was most

entertaining. I enjoyed it very much”.

Here are a few pictures that captured the day.
