Park Location: From I-15 take Hurricane Exit 16, then travel five miles east on State Road 9. Turn right on Sand Hollow Road and drive three miles to the park entrance.

Park Guidelines

Please observe the following park regulations to ensure everyone’s visit is pleasant.

Pets – Pets must be leashed and under control at all times. Please clean up after your pet.

Quiet Hours – 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please turn off generators and music.

Fires – Campfires are allowed only in designated fire rings. Do not leave fires unattended. Fire restrictions may be in effect.

Firearms – The use of firearms, traps or other devices capable of launching a projectile that can immobilize, injure or kill a person or animal, or damage property is prohibited. Contact a park ranger for more information.

Fireworks – Explosives, fireworks or firecrackers are prohibited.

Plants and Animals – All plants, animals, miner-als, and other natural features in state parks are protected. It is unlawful to remove, alter or destroy them.

Campsites – Camping is allowed only in designat-ed campsites. Campsite fees cover one vehicle and any attached recreational equipment. There is an extra fee for additional vehicles or camping equipment. Up to eight people are allowed in a campsite. A permit is required for boat camping.

Special Use Permit – A Special Use Permit is required for all special events and commercial or professional filming and photography.

Climbing – Climbing on rocks, jumping and/or diving from rocks is hazardous. Do so at your own risk.

Glass - No glass bottles or containers on the beaches.

Off-Highway Vehicles - OHVs may not be operated on the westside beaches, boat parking lot or Westside Campground.

Parking - Park in designated areas only.

Vandalism - It is unlawful to mutilate or deface any natural or constructed feature or structure.

Camping

Westside Campground offers full-hookups of water, sewer and electricity, barbeques,

firepits, tables, and cabanas at each site. Modern restrooms and showers are available. Non-campers can use the Westside Campground showers for $2 per person.

Sand Pit is the new OHV accessible campground located along the south shore of Sand Hollow Reservoir. The 30-site campground has six sites with water and electrical hook-ups, and five large group sites. Restrooms and showers are available.

Primitive camping is available along the east and south shores. Up to eight people are allowed per vehicle/site. Picnic tables and pit toilets are available. This is an undeveloped area.

Many species call Sand Hollow home including coyotes, foxes, rabbits, a variety

of desert snakes, scorpions and lizards. Be aware of them, they are very aware of you.

Collecting animals and reptiles is illegal.

With its warm, blue waters and red sandstone landscape, Sand

Hollow State Park provides recreation opportunities for nearly every visitor, from boaters and off-highway vehicle (OHV) riders, to triathletes. Boat and fish on Sand Hollow Reservoir, explore and ride the dunes of Sand Mountain on an OHV, then RV or tent camp in one of the campgrounds.

The sprawling 20,000-acre park, which rests mostly on USDI Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land, is one of the most visited destinations in the Utah State Parks system.

History

Completed in April 2003, Sand Hollow Reservoir was created by the

Washington County Water Conservancy District as additional water storage for the Quail Creek system. Used as culinary water by cities and towns in southwestern Utah, Sand Hollow Reservoir serves as an important water source in this otherwise hot and arid part of Utah.

Sand Mountain

Off-highway vehicle riding is allowed on the south and east sides of the reservoir. Sand

Mountain, which is accessed by a tunnel located south of the OHV staging area, offers 16,000 acres of prime OHV riding.
