TALES FOR TOTS AGES 1 TO 3 WITH AN ADULT

Stories come to life during each three-part series where toddlers and their adults explore the world of various tales through engaging songs, interactive play, unique crafts, and live animal encounters! This class is designed to be a transitional experience into preschool. Class fee is for one child and up to two accompanying adults. Additional children require separate registration; activities are designed to target 1 to 3-year-olds only. Each class includes interactive discussions, inquiry-based activities, a visit from one of our animal ambassadors, and more! Join us for a class full of discovery and play! This is a children’s drop-off program; however, parents are welcome to participate. JUNIOR KEEPERS AGES 7 TO 9

Our zoo crew does it all and you can too! Zoologists are scientists too as you will learn when you practice your zookeeping skills. This is a drop-off program. Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m.Fee: $30 Puzzling Bones January 18Animal bones and skulls are just nature’s puzzles. Come investigate and sleuth out who they are. Fingerprinting LemursFebruary 8Did you know lemurs have fingernails and fingerprints like we do? Let’s look and magnify them all. Graffiti SleuthMarch 14Someone wrote on the zoo wall! Was the crime committed by critter or visitor? We’ll use science and sleuthing skills to solve this crime.

WinterZOO U-NIVERSITY AGES 10 TO 13

Zookeepers do much more than feed, water and scoop scat. This series will train future Zookeepers with the scientific skills of problem-solving, emergency engineering, critical thinking, experimentation and enrichment creation while solving zoo mysteries. This is a drop-off program. Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m.Fee: $30 Escape Room at the Zoo January 25Use your zoo knowledge and keeper skills to escape the room you are locked into. If only you could solve the zookeeping clues to find your keys! Zoo DiagnosisFebruary 15Use your zoo knowledge and keeper skills to figure out what is causing the animals to get sick in this mystery. Busting Baffling Behavior March 21Use your zoo knowledge and keeper skills to figure out the mystery of why the animals are behaving so strangely and seem to have forgotten their training.

SENSATIONAL SENIORS AGES 50+

If you like Senior Safari, you are going to love being a “Sensational Senior”. This monthly class includes mini walking tours, live animal encounters, animal-enrichment crafts, activities, door prizes and our “Beautiful & Basic Breakfast Bar.” This class encourages community seniors to become Happy Hollow Ambassadors as they socialize, exercise and learn at their new “wild” hangout. This class is held on the second Thursday of each month starting November through April from 9 to 10:30 a.m.Fee: $12

WINTER SCHOOL BREAK CAMPS

Come play at the zoo during both school breaks. These daily drop-off programs are filled with educational activities, live-animal encounters, zoo tours and nature play or bring drama to the zoo during a unique week training as a theatrical make-up artist.

Wild Winter Wonderland Ages 5 to 11Monday, Thursday and Friday, December 23, 26 & 27 or January 1 to 3, 20199 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fee: $165Wild and wintry fun await all who come to slide like a penguin, burrow like a polar bear and pounce like an Arctic fox. Critter games, creative crafts, awesome activities and animal encounters are on this adventure wish list. Zoo SleuthsAges 5 to 11 Monday to Friday, February 17 to 21 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fee: $375The zoo is full of mystery and we need you to become an animal detective to solve the crime. Follow the clues, use the science and deduce “who done it”. Theatrical Makeup Madness Ages 12 to 16 Monday to Friday, February 17 to 21 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fee: $375Learn from the Happy Hollow Entertainment department. Campers will learn theatrical makeup techniques, create prosthetics, and take home a makeup kit with prosthetics in this week-long camp.

HAPPY HOLLOW BEEKEEPING WORKSHOPS AGES 18+

Beekeeping Workshops at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo are an intimate opportunity to learn about bees in a hands-on class setting. All workshops take place at Happy Hollow and fees benefit the zoo’s conservation efforts. Workshop fees include the use of all needed equipment (including protective clothing that is required), hands-on training, and lectures.Fee: $75 Beekeeping Workshops: Brood Building Saturday, February 22 12 to 3 p.m. This workshop is based on brood building and making space for new egg laying areas. Learn to manipulate brood boxes for swarm control, place hives in new boxes, set up bait box hives to attract swarms, install packages and nucleus hives, and create an equipment list for the year. Swarm Control Saturday, March 14 12 to 3 p.m. This workshop will focus on setting up swarm controls, splitting hives, encouraging new queens, setting up mating castles and nucleus hives, in addition to feeding the bees.

Animal art class for teenagers. Food, music, live animal encounters and instruction while the participants paint a portrait of the star animal of the night. Snacks and beverages will be included. This is a drop-off program. Saturday, April 4 or Saturday, May 9 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fee $22

PAINT NIGHT AT THE ZOO AGES 18+

Come play at the zoo during spring break! Our camp is filled with interactive educational activities, live animal encounters, zoo tours, nature play, and more! This is a daily, drop-off program. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.Fee: $375 Design-A-Zoo Ages 5 to 11April 13 to 17You have always wanted to make it your own and now you can. Be the Zoo Director, be the Curator, be the Zookeeper and inspire your imagination as you design a zoo of your own. Script to Stage Theater Camp Ages 8 to 12April 13 to 17This spring you are the whole show! Campers will become the screenwriters, prop masters, stage dressers, directors, and actors as they sample all aspects of a stage production. This is a daily, drop-off program. Mount a show from pre-production to performance in this week-long camp. Campers will gain knowledge and skills in each area of theatrical production.

HAPPY HOLLOW BEEKEEPING WORKSHOPS AGES 18+

Beekeeping Workshops at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo are an intimate opportunity to learn about bees in a hands-on class setting. Practice with swarm control, selection of laying queens, and creation of new “for sale” hives will be included. Beekeeping Workshop: Hive Inspection Saturday, May 169 a.m. to 12 p.m.This workshop will teach checking hives for eggs, brood patterns, frame manipulation, setting beetle traps, and placement of honey supers. Beekeeping Workshop: Mites & Problem Solving Saturday, June 13 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.This workshop will target mite counts, washing, and treatment as well as checking for other hive problems. Beekeeping Workshop: Honey Extraction Saturday, July 119 a.m. to 12 p.m.This workshop will focus on checking hives, rotating honey supers and honey harvesting. Beekeeping Workshop: Preparing for Winter Saturday, August 8 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.This winterizing workshop will demonstrate mite control systems, hive beetle trap refreshment and honey super extraction planning.

ABOUT THE SUMMER CAMPSSummer camps take place Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children attend camps independently without parents or guardians and should be comfortable in a group setting. Drop-off for camps is 8:45 to 9 a.m. and pick-up is at 4 p.m. Early drop-offs or late pick-ups are not permitted. Every camper must sign in (and out) with a camp instructor each day, and a valid form of ID must be presented upon request of the camp instructor. Fee: $375$7 / day Lunch$15 Extra T-shirt

SummerTHEATER SUMMER CAMPS

PUPPET MAKING & PLAY (AGES 6 TO 8) Session I June 15 to 19In the morning, campers will learn the skills of puppet making and manipulation as they build characters through storytelling. In the afternoon, campers will explore their imagination with improvisational theatre games as they team up and rehearse skits to perform for an audience. Session IIJuly 13 to 17For those puppet-making artists who have attended Session 1, this class takes you a step further with more advanced puppet-making skills and projects. PUPPET & THEATER IMPROVISATION (AGES 9 TO 11) Session I June 22 to 26Campers will learn the skills of puppet making and manipulation as they build characters through storytelling and have the opportunity to build felt and air-dry clay props. They will explore their imagination with team improvisational theatre games as rehearsal for performance skits in front of an audience. Session IIJuly 20 to 24For those puppet-making and improvisation artists who have attended Puppetry & Theater Improvisation: Session 1, this class takes you a step further with more advanced puppet-making skills and improvisation projects. THE ART OF PUPPETRY & IMPROVISATION (AGES 12 TO 14) July 6 to 10Campers will create shadow puppets, mouth puppets, and hand puppets as they learn the skills of puppet manipulation and voice-over techniques. They will dive into the art of acting using various methods to further their training with advanced improvisational games, listening skills, memorization techniques, body and voice articulation, and character research & development. Campers will team up to rehearse scenes and skits for a performance.

LIFESIZE PUPPETRY ENGINEERING & DESIGN (13 TO 16 YEARS) July 27 to 31Campers will design and create their own rod puppet from a maquette to a full-body design. Campers will engineer joints and limbs to bring their creation to life. The class will also cover movement techniques for full-body puppetry to be used in their own improvisational skits to be enjoyed by an audience at the end of this week long camp.

SUMMER FAMILY SLEEPOVERAGES 5+ WITH AN ADULT

Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian also registered for the event. Join us for an animal extravaganza! Your family will enjoy live animal encounters, hands-on activities, games, crafts, and a flashlight tour through the zoo while discovering the amazing world of animals. Learn about animal adaptations and how they help animals to survive in different habitats. You can choose between tent camping in the Crooked House Meadow or sleeping in the indoor Learning LODGE. Indoor sleeping is limited and must be requested at the time of registration by contacting the Education Department). Families are encouraged to bring their own picnic dinner or pre-purchase a family meal from Happy Hollow (at the time of registration) to enjoy in the Crooked House Meadow before the festivities begin. This adventure includes a late night snack and a catered breakfast the next morning. Class fee is for one participant. A parent or guardian must accompany their child and be registered for the sleepover individually.

REFUND & TRANSFER POLICYRefund and transfer requests need to be made in writing. Refunds and transfers will be given for requests received at least 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program/class. No refunds or transfers will be made for cancellations received by the City less than 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program/class. There will be a $10 refund processing fee for each activity.
