Presider: Fr. James Cassidy Pre-Mass Speaker: Pat Dawson, pa- rishioner and Parish Council member, co-led a recent series of listening ses- sions with parishioners of SJA, and he will share insights from that process with us this morning. Thank you, Pat, for being with us and for all your work. St. Joan of Arc is blessed with wonderful and dedicated musicians who lead our sung prayer each Sunday. Today Christina Pawlowski and Steve Kremer will offer two solos during our Gym Masses. Thank you all! Join us at 9:45 or 11:45 am in the Church as Fr. Jim DeBruycker talks about the Gospel. In today’s reading it would almost seem that Jesus could use a Dale Carnegie Course. He is being praised by his community but when someone brings up his origins he attacks them by insulting their faithfulness. Of course they over react and threaten to kill him. Either by the crowd’s fear, or a miracle, he walks right through the angry crowd to safety. It’s hard to ex- plain why this had to happen. Perhaps it’s Luke’s attempt to get us ready for what is about to happen. Last week’s Gospel, which introduces today's story, begins with Luke’s prologue. He tells us he is writing this for us –Theophilus - which means lover of God. He says that from the very start of Jesus’ ministry there was a problem; something in human nature stands against the message. Of course, this puts Jesus in the same boat as all the great prophets; his message is being rejected. This Sunday’s readings begin with the anointing of Jeremiah as a prophet. He is told about his status as prophet, the hardship of his calling, but also the promise of protection. God says to Jeremiah that “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you …” so don’t worry, Jeremiah, God will not forsake you. It is not easy to be a prophet, but you have the promise of God’s presence. Today we also have the famous reading from 1st Corinthians. It tells us the purpose of all these proclamations. The world as we know it will someday end. But what will not end and what will be enhanced is our love for one another because that cannot die. Advice: Go for what lasts. Parish Survey: Saint Joan of Arc is conducting a parish-wide survey and we invite all adult parishioners to provide us with your feedback by completing the survey. Just go to the SJA website (saintjoanofarc.org) and click the survey link. If you cannot complete the survey online, paper copies are available in the Parish Center, the Gym vestibule, and the back of the Church. If you would like a copy mailed to your home, please call the Parish Center. Whether the survey is taken online or via a paper copy, all responses will be anonymous. The last time we conducted a survey like this was in 2011. Our goal is to collect as many responses as possible to help us plan for the future of our parish. Thank you and we hope to receive your response soon!
