Easter Sunday April 4, 2021

I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

— Psalm 118:17 ********************************************************************** REJOICE AND BE GLAD During the first three or four centuries of Christianity, if you asked a Christian to name the feast days of the church, your answer would have been a puzzled stare, for there was only one feast: the Resurrection of the Lord. Every Sunday was a feast celebrating the one great feast. Even though our calendar now has many beautiful and holy feasts, we must continually be called back to the fact that all these other feasts exist because of the feast of Christ’s passover from death to life. The psalm today proclaims this message well: “This is the day.” It is not one of many days, but it is the day of all days, the one that gives all the others their origin, purpose, meaning, and destiny. Listen carefully to Peter’s speech in Acts with its recollection of the Passion, to the words of the apostle Paul, and to the account of Mary Magdalene, John, and Peter finding the empty tomb, and you will hear the many wonderful works that God has done for us through Christ. Rejoice and be glad! ***********************************************************************

Message from our Pastor

At this time last year our church buildings were closed. Since then we’ve began livestreaming masses and in June were able to welcome our parishioners back into the church. This Easter my message is that Jesus has lived and died and risen for us. He is the source of our salvation, especially in these continuing difficult times. We pray for all the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic and their families over the last year. Jesus carried his cross for us and tells us that we need to carry our crosses, no matter how difficult they may be. Jesus promises to be with us to share our burdens. Generally, when we think of Easter, we think of a time of joy. This Easter some of us might be in a time of sadness. You may be surprised to know that the first Easter started out with sadness as well, but the good news is that the sadness turned into victory. It is that victory we celebrate on Easter. Our faith informs our actions and transforms concern into compassion for our neighbor. We hold tightly to the certain hope that we, though utterly unworthy, are the beloved sheep of our Lord’s pasture, and our gracious shepherd will never slumber in keeping watch over us. The breathless joy of the empty tomb and the promise that we, too, will know such a resurrection is the hope-filled message our upside-down world so desperately needs in these times. Know that our God is providing new possibilities to gather, share and re-imagine how to be a community. Continue to heed the guidelines set by the government and authorities. We encourage all our parishioners to join us in prayer, whether that be in our church or through our livestreamed masses, and to be sure to spend some extra time in prayer during this Easter season. God loves us and demonstrates that for us in the obedience of his son, Jesus. God is with us in our sufferings and in our joys. We need to help and encourage each other. We have the opportunity to be people of hope and promise. In the midst of these dark times, we’re surrounded by the newness and beauty of spring – a powerful sign of the new life God promises us. May I ask you to please continue to encourage self-care and caution. I wish all the gifts of joy, hope, and Easter peace. Rev. Vincent Miceli Pastor
