W hat is the position of the Catholic Church con-cerning vaccinations in general?
The Church teaches the process of de-veloping vaccines should always re-spect the human dignity of all persons, including the unborn. Avoidance of vaccination carries with it dangerous and potentially deadly consequences for the most vulnerable in society. The Catholic Church strongly supports vac-cination and regards Catholics as hav-ing a duty to be vaccinated, not only for the sake of their own health but also out of solidarity with others, especially the most vulnerable. When the crowd first arrives, Jesus notes that they had not appreciated the sign that he had already given; they are still focused on their physical hunger. When they ask for a sign, “that we may see and believe in you” (John 6:30), they refer to their ancestors who ate manna in the wilderness. Can Jesus top that? Can he give them more bread that will relieve them of their daily worries about going hungry? Jesus reminds the crowd that it was not Moses who gave the “bread from heaven,” but his Father. Further, the Father can give them the true bread from heaven that comes down and gives life to the world. There is a par-allel in the Greek between working for food that perishes and doing the works of God, which is believing in Jesus as the one God has sent. This is the sign that the people missed the day before, the sign that Jesus is pointing out to them. Like the Evangelist, the Church uses the word “sign” for its sacraments. Like the crowd, we are called to see similar “signs” of God’s generosity in all the blessings of our lives.

Cuando la multitud llega por primera vez, Jesús observa que no han apreciado el signo que él ya había hecho; pues la multitud está enfocada en su hambre física. Y cuando piden por un signo, “para que podamos ver y creer en ti” (Juan 6:30), se refieren a sus antepasados que comieron el maná en el desierto. ¿Puede Jesús superar eso? ¿Puede él darles más pan que les alivie de sus preocupaciones diarias por pasar hambre? Jesús le recuerda a la multitud que no fue Moisés quien dio el “pan del cielo”, sino el Padre. Ade-más, el Padre puede darles el pan verdadero del cielo que baja y da vida al mundo. Hay una semejanza entre el len-guaje griego al decir trabajar por la comida que se echa a perder y hacer las obras de Dios, lo cual es creer en Jesús como el enviado de Dios. Este es el signo que la gente no vio el día anterior, el signo que Jesús les está indicando. Como el evangelista, la Iglesia utiliza la palabra “signo” para sus sacramentos. Como la multitud, estamos llamados a ver de igual manera los “signos” de la generosidad de Dios en todas las bendiciones de nuestra vida

La Iglesia enseña que el proceso de desarrollo de vacunas siempre debe respetar la dignidad humana de todas las personas, incluidos los no nacidos. FEAST OF FAITH The Preface: Thanksgiving The preface of the Mass has been called “a poem, the cry of joy and recognition, the song of the world discovering its salvation . . . the certitude of faith making hope spring forth” (Philippe Béguerie, quoted in The Mass, Lucien Deiss, The Liturgical Press, Collegeville, MN, 1992, p. 70). The preface takes up the last words of the dialogue, and expresses briefly and simply why we are grateful, why it is right and just to give thanks and praise to God. On feast days, the preface sings of the specific mystery or saint we cele-brate; in Ordinary Time, the Sunday and weekday prefaces express our gratitude for God’s gift of the Son, Jesus Christ, in whom we have redemption and newness of life. The prefaces offer a succinct account of what God has done for us in Christ; they express the mystery of faith, always relating it to us, to our lives. “By his birth we are reborn,” we hear in Preface IV for Sundays in Ordinary Time. “By his suffering we are freed from sin. FIESTA DE LA FE Presencia real por excelencia Una vez que los dones han sido consagra-dos por la acción del Espíritu Santo y que el sacerdote ha concluido la narración recordan-do las acciones y palabras de Cristo, el pan y el vino han dejado de ser pan y vino y se han convertido en el Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo. ¿Qué pasó? No fue una transformación, por-que no hubo cambio de forma; no fue una transfiguración, porque no hubo cambio de figura; fue una transubstanciación porque hu-bo un cambio de sustancia, manteniendo así la misma forma y la misma figura. Esta presen-cia de Cristo, total y real, bajo las acciones de pan y de vino es la presencia real por excelen-cia y constituye la enseñanza principal de la Iglesia en torno a la presencia de Cristo. Así nos lo recuerda el Concilio de Trento: Por la consagración del pan y del vino se realiza la conversión de toda la sustancia del pan en la sustancia del Cuerpo de Cristo, Señor nuestro, y de toda la sustancia del vino en la sustancia de su sangre”.
