The Church teaches the process of de-veloping vaccines should always re-spect the human dignity of all persons, including the unborn. Avoidance of vaccination carries with it dangerous and potentially deadly consequences for the most vulnerable in society. The Catholic Church strongly supports vac-cination and regards Catholics as hav-ing a duty to be vaccinated, not only for the sake of their own health but also out of solidarity with others, especially the most vulnerable. The celebration of today’s feast on a Sunday is unusual on our Roman Cath-olic calendar. Our observance of the Lord’s Day is held in such high esteem that few other feasts replace it. Occa-sionally there is a feast—usually of one of the saints—in which the saving power of God in Christ is so uniquely focused that the Roman rite deems it worthy of celebration on the Lord’s Day. Today is such a feast. Yet some are surprised at the brevity of the dog-ma in its entirety: “We pronounce, de-clare and define it to be a divinely re-vealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory.” The Roman Catholic Church never defined any specifics or particulars about the event itself. It is not in the scriptures. There are no verifiable eyewitness accounts. At its core, the dogma reveals in Mary the destiny of all mortal flesh, and re-inforces our creedal belief in resurrec-tion of the body. This feast strengthens our faith, defined last week in Hebrews as the realization of things hoped for. We find, in Mary, that realization of what we all hope for, what Paul today affirms: “In Christ shall all be brought to life” (1 Corinthians 15:22).

La Asunción de María Al Cielo
La celebración de la fiesta de hoy en domingo es inusual en nuestro calendario católico. Nuestra observancia del Día del Señor es de tan alta estima que pocas otras fiestas la reempla-zan. Ocasionalmente hay una fiesta –usualmente de uno de los santos– en que el poder salvador de Dios en Cristo está tan singularmente manifiesto que el rito romano la considera digna de celebrarse en el Día del Señor. Hoy es tal fiesta. Sin embargo, algunos se sorprenden por la brevedad del dogma en su totalidad: Pronunciamos, declaramos y definimos ser dogma de revelación divina que la inmaculada madre de Dios, siempre Virgen María, cumplido el curso de su vida fue asunta en cuerpo y alma a la gloria celeste”. La Iglesia Católica nunca definió nada específico ni los particulares sobre el hecho. No existen relatos verificables de testigos. En su esencia, el dogma revela en María el destino de toda carne mortal, y refuerza nuestro credo y fe en la resurrección del cuerpo. Esta fiesta fortalece nuestra fe, definida la semana pasada en la carta a los hebreos como la realización de aque-llo que esperamos. Encontramos en María la realización de lo que todos esperamos, y que Pablo afirma hoy: “en Cristo todos volverán a la vida” (1 Corintios 15:22).

FEAST OF FAITH Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus: Song of Heaven The words of the Sanctus are rooted in the scriptures. They recall the song of the ser-aphim in the prophet Isaiah’s vision of God in majesty: “Seraphim were stationed above; each of them had six wings: with two they veiled their faces, with two they veiled their feet, and with two they hovered aloft. ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts!’ they cried one to the other. ‘All the earth is filled with his glory!’ ” (Isaiah 6:2-3). They recall the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ entry into Jerusa-lem: “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; ho-sanna in the highest” (Matthew 21:9). Yet the liturgy adds something new to these ancient texts. The seraphim sang, “the earth is filled with his glory.” But the liturgy proclaims, “heaven and earth are full of your glory.” In the Eucharist, earth and heaven meet. For a moment in time, we join in the song that the angels sing for all time. The Sanctus raises us to heaven, but does not remove us from the earth. FIESTA DE LA FE El misterio de fe El vocablo griego mysterion, no significa lo mismo que misterio en castellano. La pala-bra griega no describe algo imposible de en-tenderse, sino algo totalmente inagotable, in-finito, que entre más se entiende o se vive, más consciente se es de su infinitud. Por ello es que la Eucaristía es un misterio, no en cuanto que no se pueda entender el ritmo y carácter de la celebración, o la presencia de Cristo en las acciones del pan y el vino, sino porque al entender la grandeza de Dios y su presencia en el sacramento, no agotamos esa infinita riqueza. Así pues, este misterio no es algo que sólo deba ser contemplado o aclama-do; este misterio ha de vivirse diariamente por cada persona que lo ha celebrado. Los cristia-nos de los primeros siglos nos lo recuerdan: “no podemos se cristianos sin la Eucaristía”. No podemos ser discípulos de Cristo si no estamos dispuestos a vivir ese misterio en la vida diaria, a compartir el pan con quien tiene hambre y a vivir como Cristo vivió. News & Events…Avisos y Eventos BLESSED ARE YOU Elizabeth had waited a long time for the child she carried. She was be-yond child-bearing age by the time she conceived the baby who would be known as John the Baptist. We can only imagine her joy and amazement when the baby leaped in her womb at Mary’s arrival. Eliza-beth was old and Mary young, yet both trusted in the goodness of the Lord; both relied on the Holy Spirit to be with them in the perplexing, exciting, and anxious time in which they found themselves. They show us what it means to put God at the center of our lives. Their story may inspire us to believe that God’s lov-ing mercy awaits in every moment of our lives. Elizabeth calls Mary and the child in her womb “blessed,” holy. Mary’s holiness is found in her belief in God and her willingness to carry out God’s plan by carrying the child Jesus in her womb. How are you called to holi-ness? In what ways are you willing to carry out God’s plan?
BENDITA TÚ ERES Isabel había esperado mucho tiem-po al bebé que llevaba en su seno. Ella ya no estaba en edad de poder engendrar hijos cuando concibió al niño que sería conocido como Juan el Bautista. Sólo podemos imaginar su alegría y asombro cuando el bebé saltó en su vientre ante la llegada de María. Isabel ya era una adulta ma-yor y María era joven, pero ambas confiaron en la bondad del Señor; ambas confiaron en que el Espíritu Santo las acompañaría en el mo-mento desconcertante, emocionante y angustioso en el que se encontra-ban. Ellas nos muestran lo que sig-nifica poner a Dios en el centro de nuestras vidas. Su historia puede inspirarnos a creer que la amorosa misericordia de Dios nos espera en cada momento de nuestras vidas. Isabel llama a María y al niño que lleva en su vientre “bendito”, santo. La santidad de María se encuentra en su creencia en Dios y en su vo-luntad de llevar a cabo el plan de Dios llevando al niño Jesús en su vientre. ¿Cómo estás llamado a la santidad? ¿De qué manera estás dispuesto a llevar a cabo el plan de Dios?

Update on COVID Protocols Aug 3, 2021 Upon review of the Santa Clara County’s August 2nd Public Health Order, the Diocese of San José will be
following the Order in the following ways effective immediately:
• Masks will be required for all at indoor worship except presiders, deacons, and lectors when they are
proclaiming the Word, leading prayer, or preaching at least six feet from anyone else and except cantors
while they are singing at least 12 feet from anyone not of their household.
• Masks will be required for all at indoor non-worship gatherings.
• Employees, volunteers, and visitors will be required to wear masks when indoors, except when
alone in an office.
• Social distancing, which is no longer required by public health except for schools, will be at the discre-
tion of the pastor based on the needs of his community.
Chancery and parish employees will continue to work three days in office and two days telecommuting.
We understand it is hard to take several steps forward and one step back as transmission of the virus has once again surged with the new Delta variant, particularly in areas where vaccination rates remain low. As a reminder, we wear masks for the protection of our fellow employees, volunteers and parishioners, for the care of those most vulnerable – the immunocompromised and children – and for the greater public health of our communities as we work to prevent this Delta variant from spreading and other variants from gaining traction. It’s important to note that a return to masks for those who are vaccinated does not mean the COVID-19 vaccines do not work. Vaccines continue to be extremely effective, particularly at preventing severe ill-ness, but they may not always be completely effective at preventing infection or transmission of the Delta variant. According to the CDC, new data show the Delta variant is highly contagious. It’s more transmissi-ble than the flu, the common cold and is on par with chickenpox, which is considered to be the most conta-gious of common viruses. Still, the vaccines continue to prevent most infections and almost all hospitaliza-tion. If you have yet to get a vaccine, we strongly encourage you to do so. The Diocese has a webpage summa-rizing the Catholic Teachings on vaccinations and the COVID vaccine that you can review and share with your communities – https://www.dsj.org/covid19vaccines/ Together, we can put this pandemic behind us. This new variant is not an unsurmountable setback – just the next hurdle on this journey. Our top priority remains the health and safety of our employees, clergy and volunteers and those we serve and minister to in our diocese.

Actualización de Protocolos para el COVID El 3 de agosto, 2021
Tras la revisión de la Orden de Salud Pública del 2 de agosto del Condado de Santa Clara, la Diócesis de
San José seguirá la Orden de las siguientes maneras con vigencia inmediata:
• Se requerirán máscaras para todos en la adoración en interiores, excepto los presidentes, diáconos y lec-
tores cuando estén proclamando la Palabra, dirigiendo la oración o predicando al menos a seis pies de cual-
quier otra persona y excepto los cantores mientras cantan al menos a 12 pies de distancia de cualquier otra

Entendemos que es difícil dar varios pasos hacia adelante y un paso atrás, ya que la transmisión del virus ha aumentado una vez más con la nueva variante Delta, particularmente en áreas donde las tasas de vacunación siguen siendo bajas. Como recordatorio, usamos máscaras para la protección de nuestros compañeros de trabajo, voluntarios y feligreses, para el cuidado de los más vulnerables, los inmunodeprimidos y los niños, y para la mayor salud pública de nuestras comunidades mientras trabajamos por evitar que esta variante delta se siga propagando y otras variantes ganen tracción. Es importante tener en cuenta que el regreso a las mascarillas para quienes están vacunados no significa que las vacunas COVID-19 no funcionen. Las vacunas continúan siendo extremadamente efectivas, particular-mente para prevenir enfermedades graves, pero es posible que no siempre sean completamente efectivas para prevenir la infección o la transmisión de la variante Delta. Según los CDC, los nuevos datos muestran que la variante Delta es altamente contagiosa. Es más transmisible que la gripe, el resfriado común y está a la par con la varicela, que se considera el más contagioso de los virus comunes. Aún así, las vacunas conti-núan previniendo la mayoría de las infecciones y casi todas las hospitalizaciones. Si aún no se ha vacunado, le recomendamos altamente que lo haga. Esta nueva variante no es un revés insuperable, solo el siguiente obstáculo en este viaje. Nuestra principal prioridad sigue siendo la salud y la seguridad de nuestros emplea-dos, clérigos y voluntarios y de aquellos a quienes servimos y ministramos en nuestra diócesis.
