Dear Parishioners:

May the Blessings of a Prayerful Christmas and Holy New Year be with you! Christmas is a time of giving and receiving. Our parish does both so well that we truly “Keep Christ in Christmas.” Our food, clothing, gift drives have been overwhelming. The Knights of Columbus’ drive for the magnets crosses was a great success. Our parishioners are very generous!

Continue to remember us when you plan your estate. This year we have received over $150,000.00 in donations from former parishioners. This week alone we have received notice of a generous donation from two different estates of former parishioners. We have been Blessed!

Your Christmas donations help us minister to those “little” extras to make life wonderful until Easter time. We saw the sale of the Margate property that helped pay for all the demolition costs. We hope and pray for the sale of the Ventnor property; it is still on the market. Then we can deposit a substantial amount of money into our Diocesan Savings account.

The parish councils have put together our Christmas list, and we will be able to accomplish almost all the dream projects in future months. Holy Trinity Parish will shine Downbeach!

For all God’s gifts to us and all our gifts we bring to each altar, May God Always Shine the Light of Christ on you!

MAY ALL OUR PARISHIONERS AND VISITORS

HAVE A BLESSED AND PEACEFUL CHRISTMAS SEASON! Fr. Joe, Fr. Steve, and Fr. Pawel, Deacon Paul, Sister Sheila,

and the entire Staff at Holy Trinity Parish

CHRISTMAS IS A TIME OF GIFT GIVING AND THANK YOUS!!

Eric Casale and his crew, did an outstanding job replacing the roof at SJ, but, they also fixed BSC roof and ceiling, plus they did Trinity Chapel. We are most grateful!!!! Golden Hands, Eli and his team, has completed the stucco repair at SJ Church and they blended it beautifully, matched the trim and gold, it really looks great! Another big line of “Kudos” goes out to Deputy Chief Mike Cahill of Ventnor Fire Company, and his platoon for coming to our rescue December 15th in the morning. We had one of the upper stained glass windows, for some crazy reason, opened on us. Not having a ladder high enough, Jim R. went over to the Fire House and asked for their help. They came within 5 minutes and secured the opened window (thank goodness because the coldest of air was coming). They told me anytime we need their help, do not hesitate to call them. It just goes to show you, there are still some good and decent people in this world and we are lucky enough to have them.

OFFICE OF STEWARDSHIP Remember Holy Trinity Parish in your

Will and in your prayers!

Stewards Model Discipleship

“When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.” MATTHEW 1:24

Putting our complete trust in the Lord without expecting anything in return. Striving to put God first in all things and follow Him wherever He may led us. As His Stewards we prepare for the birth of our Lord, pray for the strength and courage to be a model of discipleship, just as Joseph was.

SCRIPTURE READINGS

The Nativity of the Lord FIRST READING

Isaiah 52:7-10 The ends of the earth will see God’s salvation. Break forth together in song, Jerusalem, for the good news of peace has

come. God redeems Jerusalem and gives comfort to all people.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 98:1, 2-3, 3-4, 5-6

All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.

SECOND READING Hebrews 1:1-6

“In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways...through the prophets,” but now we have God’s own

heir, the Lord who sustains all things. Let all angels worship God’s first-born, god’s heir, God’s Son.

John 1:1-18 “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us, and we saw His glory...full of grace and truth.” We all have partaken of this fullness: love following love.

Saint Vincent de Paul Society With the cutback in working hours for many employed in the tourism business, as well as the projected close of another casino in Atlantic City, the need for assistance will increase in the coming months. Canned and packaged food can always be left in any of our churches or in Trinity Chapel. All donated food goes directly to families in need. DONATIONS OF FOOD ONLY!

Today we celebrate the feast of Christmas and hear how the shepherds found Mary and Joseph and the infant lying in the manger. Then they left glorifying and prasing God for all they had heard and seen. Your gifts to the society of St. Vincent de Paul helped those who are poor and suffering to find Emmanuel and they also came to know that “God is with us.” For more information, contact Maria Elena in the parish office at 822-7105 ext. 102. One of our members will follow up.

God Bless and Thank You.

It is extremely disrespectful to leave Church immediately after receiving Communion.

Remember who was the first one to leave the Last Supper!

HOLY TRINITY PARISH Would like to take the opportunity to say a very special “Thank You” to our Maintenance Staff,

Mr. Jim Ricciotti and Mr. Fred Casper. These men go the extra mile in anything they need to do and those things that they are asked to do!

No matter if it is moving Statues, building a Nativity scene, getting the hall ready for the

Summer Religious Ed program or decorating for the Wedding of the Sea, they always give 100%!

Thank you also to Regina Tepedino for donating towards our Living Nativity!

The Bible Timeline

Did you ever want to know more about the Bible? Did you ever want a better understanding of the Hebrew Scriptures and how those relate to the Christian Scripture reading that you

hear every Sunday at Mass? Then join us starting Tuesday evening, January 3, 2017, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM in the Lifelong Formation Center Meeting Room for the Bible Timeline, the Story of Salvation. This Jeff Cavins, Ascension Press Series of 24 videos, takes you through the Hebrew Scriptures up through the Christian Scriptures and the early Church, ending with the Act of the Apostles. It parallels not only the historical times in the work, but also unveils the foreshadowing of destruction of the old world and the harbingers of the new order following our Salvation History through Jesus, the Christ. Come to just watch the hour long videos once a week.

Please call the rectory or Rose Maglietta 487-0839.

Christian Tradition and the Significance of Holly: According to tradition, the pointy leaves represent

the thorns of Christ's Crown. The perennial green leaves represent eternal life.

The red berries represent the blood shed for our salvation.

There is even a tradition that holly was used to make the crown of

thorns. At that time, the berries were yellow. In honor of the blood shed by Christ,

the berries turned red. While holly is most often pictured as having red

berries, the berries come in other colors. One tradition says that white berries

represent Jesus' purity... green berries the cross of wood...

and black berries his death. Some say Christ was crucified on a holly tree.

Another Christian legend claims that holly miraculously grew to hide the Holy Family from

Herod's soldiers. As a sign of gratitude, holly has remained evergreen ever since.~~~
