Dear Friends of St. Louise, Like many parishes throughout the Arch-diocese, we are in the midst of transition. We said farewell to Fr. Fabian last week, and this week we welcome newly ordained Fr. Juan Carlos Orozco. Welcome Fr. Carlos! This transition is easier than most be-cause many of us already know Fr. Carlos from his pastoral internship here at St. Louise in 2017. We are so blessed to have such a loving, energetic, creative, bilingual and bicultural young priest. He is excited to be at St. Louise and we are excited to welcome him (as much as we will miss seeing Fr. Fabian regularly). For those of you who don’t yet know Fr. Carlos, I am certain that you will enjoy getting to know him and will quickly come to appreciate his many strengths. I have asked Fr. Carlos to oversee the Confirmation Preparation for our youth for this coming year, and he has graciously and enthu-siastically accepted the challenge. I want to make sure you’re aware of this extra assignment because, while Fr. Carlos is very gifted, priesthood is still very new to him. (I like to joke that there’s enough in the first year of priesthood, just to figure out where the ribbons go in the Missal for each Mass!) On a more serious level, as awesome as he already is, Fr. Carlos will need to take time to allow the grace of the sacrament he received on June 22 to take root deep in his heart. I will be in regular conversation with him about how to keep in proper perspective the many demands that will come his way as a newly ordained priest. On Sundays, Fr. Carlos will take off after the last Mass on his schedule, and will not return to the parish until sometime Tues-day afternoon. The planning meetings that he will need to have for Confirmation and other ministries will be on Tuesday evenings. I will continue to take Tuesdays off, and when possible, will stay over-night elsewhere on either Monday or Tuesday night. All of which is by way of saying – while it’s a joy and honor to be loved and wanted, Fr. Carlos and I really need to safeguard our own wellbeing too, and that means taking our days off and really using them for personal rest and refreshment. As a good Irish priest friend of mine, Fr. Martin Bourke, constantly tells me, Mind your health, Gary. So Fr. Carlos and I will try to do exactly that! For many reasons I am excited about beginning my sixth year as your pastor. I am so grateful to Fr. Fabian for his seven years of faithful ministry at St. Louise, for the many examples of faith and ser-vice that I see among the parishioners of St. Louise, for the stories of how our people are growing in faith (including by attending a CHRP weekend!) – and the list goes on and on. This weekend, I give special thanks to God that Archbishop Sartain saw fit to assign Fr. Juan Car-los Orozco to serve at St. Louise Parish. With faith, hope and love, Fr. Gary Zender

Padre Gary Zender

St. Louise 60th Anniversary Pilgrim-age to the Holy Land-

What is a Pilgrimage?

The purpose of Christian pilgrimage was summarized by Pope Benedict XVI this way: “To go on pilgrimage is not simply to visit a place to admire its treasures of nature, art or history.

To go on pilgrimage really means to step out of ourselves in order to encounter God where he has revealed himself, where his grace has shone with particular splendor and produced rich fruits of conversion and holiness among those who believe.”

The dates and cost have been set we are planning a 12-day pilgrimage, with departure from Seattle on October 12, 2020. and returning on October 23, 2020. The cost is $3,875, per person, double occupancy. This cost includes air and land travel, hotel accommodations, entrance fees to holy sites, and breakfast and dinner each day. Since this pilgrimage is in cele-bration of our 60th anniversary, St. Louise parishioners will be given first priority in signing up. Should space remain availa-ble, friends and family from other parishes will be welcome. Watch this space for updates and consider joining us on this holy pilgrimage. Register online at www.holylandtoursllc.com. Please contact Dawn McIntosh, [email protected], with any questions.

St. Louise Men’s Fellowship will not meet in July or August The Men’s Fellowship group will not meet in the months of July and August, but will resume meetings in September. Stay tuned for a bulletin announcement of our September gathering. Email [email protected] or [email protected], if you have questions.

Also call him if you are homebound and wish to receive Eucharist from a Minister to the Sick and Homebound or would like your name on the prayer list. If, in an emergency, you need to see a priest, please call the answering service for the Eastside Catholic Pastoral Ministry: 206-748-1500. They contact the pastoral minister on call, who will call you back, come to see you and, if you wish, put your name on the list of Catholic patients in the hospital. Current federal guidelines (HIPAA) are intended to protect the privacy of patients in the hospital. This means that the hospital will not give out any information about its patients. The only way we can know that someone is in the hospital and wants the visit of a Eucharistic Minister or chaplain is if YOU tell us.

Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) Is Coming Home! We are excited to announce that beginning this Fall the Men’s CRHP Retreat and Women’s CRHP Retreat location will be at our own St Louise Campus!

The Men’s and Women’s CRHP Retreats will be held on the same weekend, October 19-20, 2019, but will be conducted separately. The retreats begin with breakfast on Saturday morning, and end on Sunday afternoon by 3PM. All retreat ac-tivities and meals will take place at St Louise. We will celebrate a special Mass, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation will also be available. Overnight accommodations will be on campus, with addition-al options available upon request. CRHP retreats across the country are held on

parish campuses. Encountering Jesus in your child’s classroom, experiencing Christian com-munity in the Parish Hall, and celebrating a special Eucharist in our parish church transforms our parish buildings into sacred spaces, and helps everyone on the retreat feel at home. Participants have a powerful experience on a CRHP retreat, and hosting it on our parish cam-pus will build many memories within these places.

Reserve your space for the Fall retreats now! You can register by completing the form found in the CRHP section of the parish website home page.

MilArch.org The Archdiocese for the Military Services was created by Pope John Paul II to provide the Catholic Church’s full range of pas-toral ministries and spiritual services to those in the United States Armed Forces. This includes more than 220 installations in 29 countries, patients in 153 V.A. Medical Centers, and fed-eral employees serving outside the boundaries of the USA in 134 countries. Numerically, the AMS is responsible for more than 1.8 million men, women, and children. Unlike a conventional diocese, the Archdiocese has no parish-es or parish registries. Chapels are property of the United States government. Although the Archdiocese exercises juris-diction over the religious education programs and the celebra-tion of Catholic Liturgy, it maintains no legal jurisdiction over the physical property of the chapel. Because base/command chap-els are United States government property, all records of sacra-ments performed on U.S. Military installations are maintained by the Archdiocese in its Office of Sacramental Records. This starkly contrasts with the model used in conventional parishes, where all sacraments are recorded in the parish registry. The Archdiocese currently maintains more than 2.5 million records of sacraments performed on military installations. The Archdiocese receives no funding from the United States government. Rather, the Archdiocese is solely funded by the generosity of its chaplains, men and women in uniform and private benefactors.

“ Marriage

Enrichment Retreat ”

Married Couples' Retreat, July 19 - 21

Led by: Fred & Anne Janssen

Note: This retreat is intended for couples who are already married. This is not a marriage preparation retreat.

'Every Day in Love' is a fun, engaging, and transformational enrichment program designed to release joy in marriages. Couples of all ages and experience will benefit from the practi-cal strategies, everyday skills, liberating insights, and experi-ential exercises that will be presented at this retreat.

Fred and Anne Janssen mentor engaged couples who are preparing for Sacramental Marriage, and they train other married couples to be mentors as well. They have led Catholic Marriage retreats throughout the Northwest for more than 15 years and served on the 2009 Archdiocesan Commission for Marriage and Family.

Fred and Anne have been married for 25 years, have three children, and are members of St. John Vianney Parish in Kirk-land, where they are the lay leaders for Marriage Preparation and Marriage Enrichment.
