For renewal of vital forces, periods of absolute rest are of great impor-tance. In absolute rest, a person is in other worlds, and if it were possible to question him carefully he would reveal many interesting things. Folk-lore preserves stories about sleeping beauties and knights who remain in a state of suspended animation. Folk wisdom observes this as an especial condition that is followed by renewed energy and even heroism. It is a pity that many aspects of such rest peri-ods and the condition of a person in the rest periods are seldom studied. Stupor is one such rest period. Stupor should not be confused with fainting. Fainting is an unconscious numbness. Stupor does not necessarily exclude consciousness. The cause for stupor is very subtle. Stupor cannot be caused through any external influence, while in stupor a person can be cured of the initials stages of any befalling dis-

ease. It is incorrect to regard stupor as an illness. It is an acceptable condi-tion of body and mind. It is wrong to awaken a person in stupor. In stupor a person’s psyche undergoes certain re-adjustments. Heckling at a per-son in stupor is ignorance. Question-ing him and teasing him with clumsy enquiries would disturb him from his re-arrangement. One should under-stand that a person is refining himself through the stupor. It is but necessary for medical science to make deeper study of the condition of the brain of the persons who faint and who fall into stupor. Observation of the brain vibrations of a person who is in a shock, who is in fainting and who is in stupor, may reveal dif-ferent states of psychic energy. It may also give clues to the death.

was an interpretation of the psalms of David (3). Let us remember that, specifically from his religious work, great number of theological mono-graphs, biblical commentaries, ser-mons and works on the Eucharist and the Virgin Mary have been pre-served. There is no doubt Paracelsus thought in depth about Christianity and spirituality in general. Many of his works, which in later time have been described as “philosophical”, “alchemist” or “magic”, had an un-deniable spiritual component and are essential to understand the religious thinking of Paracelsus. According to Paracelsus, it is not a coincidence that science and religion form a unit.It is quite understandable how the Catholic Church would end up consid-ering him a heretic. He had problems with the religious authorities since he lived in Salzburg between 1524 and 1525, when they considered his writ-ings about the, then explosive social situation of the city, polemic. He him-self, in this period, declared his con-flicts with the church in his treatise, “About The Seven Points of Christian Idolatry” (4). We believe that his life was nev-er in danger due to these conflicts. But, much after his death, when re-ligious intolerance grew higher lead-ing to the counter-reformation of the Catholic Church which arose from the Council of Trent in 1564, his image and work were rejected by the offi-cial Catholics accusing him of being at least, a pantheist, a neo-platonic, a Gnostic, a hermetic philosopher and an Arian.

3.2 Spiritual InstructorFor him, medicine was perfectly in-terlaced with religion and, as we have mentioned earlier, it must not have been surprising to hear concepts and explanations or stories related to re-ligion or sacred books in the frequent classes about medicine he taught in the cities he went through. Many testimonials mention how Paracel-sus worked as a religious preacher among the crowds, especially since he landed in Salzburg in 1524, in the midst of the peasant social crisis. In this city he wouldn’t hesitate to ad-dress the peasant masses, if neces-sary, in taverns or other public plac-es such as streets or village squares, demanding social justice based on Christian and biblical principles (1). It was in this city where he started to make public his religious writ-ings and, which he himself would distribute to the city dwellers. Lat-er on, he would continue his “spir-itual” lectures at least in Nuremberg, Beratzhausen, Saint Gall, and in the land of Appenzell (2). When he was in Alsace in 1528, he wrote his first monumental work on theology. It

Philosopher of fireThe Catholic Church could not ap-prove blunt statements of Paracelsus’ about faith: “Belief is not faith… God does not want us credulous or dumb… We need to learn how to know God, and we can only do this through the acquisition of wisdom. For that we need the love of God; but love will only take birth in our hearts when we feel great love for humanity” (5). Although we can assert Paracelsus was never conditioned by any “ism” or philosophy, his philosophical ide-as certainly had connection with the heterodox movements of Catholicism he mentioned at the end of the last paragraph. Pantheism is evident in his idea, according to which, the virtues

and the “arcane” in nature are direct emanations of divinity and of that which is not created (6). On the other hand, Paracelsus also had much con-nection with Neo-Platonism, which was so related to the Kabala, Alche-my, Astrology, Magic, and with Pan-theism itself, since Neo-Platonists believed that the origin of all that ex-ists is the absolute unity, the One, the Supreme Reality, from which all the other realities emerge by emanation. Let us remember that on his trip to Egypt, around 1521, he visited Alex-andria and there he met, first hand, at least with two mystical traditions which in great measure influenced his philosophy: Neo-Platonism and Gnosticism. These two currents were

nourished by the philosophical con-tributions of Plato, and above all, by thinkers like Pythagoras, Aristotle and Zeno of Elea. At the same time there was also the influence of the mystic aspirations of Hindu origin (7). However, as we have already dis-cussed, Paracelsus did not find him-self alone as evident from his defense of such philosophies in Europe, start-ing half way in the decade of the twenties. The humanist enthusiasm for old texts which inundated Europe in the beginning of the 16th centu-ry made Neo-Platonism in this con-tinent flourish. Besides, the Gnostic tradition, preserved through alchemy and magic writings of the medieval epoch, was in those times, still alive in Europe. Natural magic, astrosophy, microcosmic correspondences, alche-my and the vision of Unity in all king-doms of creation were ideas greatly valued during the Renaissance (8). Thus it was not just a few people with whom Paracelsus tuned in spiritually and philosophically; especially in the

humanist circles frequented by phi-losophers like Nicolaus Cusanus, Fi-cino, Pico, Reuchlin, Jacobus Faber Stapulensis, Bovillus, Trithemius or Agripa (9). In this sense, Paracelsus was also a true representative of the Renaissance. In the future, theologi-cal writings of Paracelsus would in-fluence the Christian mystics, from Jacob Boehme to the romantics and nature philosophers like Novalis, Goethe or Rudolf Steiner (10). The above mentioned were also at-tracted by eastern spirituality. In fact, as we have pointed out earlier on, there is much similitude between the scientific or philosophic system of Paracelsus and that of the east-ern adepts. According to Hartmann, if we compare the teachings of eastern sages with the cosmology taught by Paracelsus, substituting the Sanskrit or Tibetan terms used by the former for those invented by the latter, we find the two systems almost, if not totally, identical (11). According to K.P. Kumar, the cosmology teachings

of Paracelsus contain the wisdom of the ancients in all dimensions (12). Paracelsus may have been initiated by the eastern masters of occultism in his travels as a youth. We have spo-ken earlier of his contacts with tartar shamans. In any case, he surely had access to the mystery schools around Salzburg (13), where teachings from the East were given. The information Paracelsus gave regarding the seven principles of man, the qualities of the astral body, the earth elementals, etc. was then completely unknown in the west. Thanks to Paracelsus and his subsequent followers, who will lat-er be called philosophers of fire (14), these teachings, during the subse-quent centuries would disseminate all over Europe. They were the same teachings which the theosophist Helena P. Blavatsky and her followers, based on eastern adepts, would make public at the end of the 19th century through books like Isis Unveiled and, The Secret Doctrine or Esoteric Bud-dhism (15).

Arthritic pain

1. Once a gentleman of 42 years peeped into our nursing house to ask if we have any treatment for intense arthritic pain. He thought that Homoeopathy will aggravate the pain first, and we clarified it was not true. Then we noted down his symptoms as follows:

2. Since two months intense catching pain in right arm from right shoul-der to elbow. Sometimes the pain was accompanied with numbness of right middle and ring fingers. He could not lift the hand sudden-ly. Could do it only after exercising for some time. He could not put the hand towards his back. While in movement, a type of sound, "tuk-tuk" was heard from the right shoulder joint. The pain was aggra-vated by movement and by taking rest after work.

3. Pain in the sacral region since one year. It started suddenly like

Here Dr. Rao considered the causation of the pain and the general aggravation by rest and amelioration by move-ment, and selected the medicine. The seasonal modality was quite opposite to Rhus toxicodendron. Even then as he was of Rhus toxicodendron con-stitution was completely cured with only two doses of the medicine, one dose in C200 potency, and the other in 1M potency.

2. Spiritual Force

How should one practise this Con-sciousness?

You must establish this will to be con-scious constantly and then change the mental will into an aspiration. You must have this movement. And then never to forget. You must look, look at yourself, and at your life with the sincerity not to make a mistake, never to deceive yourself. Oh! how difficult it is!"

Sri Aurobindo: When I speak of feel-ing Force or Power, I do not mean simply having a vague sense of it, but feeling it concretely and consequent-ly being able to direct it, manipulate it, watch its movements, be conscious of its mass and intensity and in the same way of that of other, perhaps opposing forces; all these things are possible and usual by the develop-ment of yoga.It is not, unless it is supramental Force, a Power that acts without con-ditions and limits. The conditions and limits under which yoga or sadhana has to be worked out are not arbitrary or capricious; they arise from the na-ture of things. These including the will, receptivity, assent, self-opening and surrender of the sadhak have to be respected by the yoga-force, un-less it receives a sanction from the Supreme to override everything and get something done, but that sanc-tion is sparingly given....

Still the yoga-force is always tangi-ble and concrete in the way I have de-scribed and has tangible results. But it is invisible not like a blow given or the rush of a motor car knocking somebody down which the physical senses can at once perceive. How is the mere physi-cal mind to know that it is there and working? By its results? But how can it know that the results were that of the yogic force and not of something else? One of two things it must be. Either it must allow the consciousness to go in-side, to become aware of inner things, to believe in the experience of the in-visible and the supraphysical, and then by experience, by the opening of new capacities, it becomes conscious of these forces and can see, follow and use their workings, just as the scien-tist uses the unseen forces of Nature. Or one must have faith and watch and open oneself and then it will begin to see how things happen, it will notice that when the Force was called in, there began after a time to be a re-sult, then repetitions, more repetitions,

more clear and tangible results, in-creasing frequency, increasing consist-ency of results, a feeling and aware-ness of the Force at work until the experience becomes daily, regular, nor-mal, complete. These are the two main methods, one internal, working from in outward, the other external, work-ing from outside and calling the inner force out till it penetrates and is visible in the exterior consciousness. But nei-ther can be done if one insists always on the extrovert attitude, the external concrete only and refuses to join to it the internal concrete or if the physi-cal mind at every step raises a dance of doubts which refuses to allow the nas-cent experience to develop. Even the scientist carrying on a new experiment would never succeed if he allowed his mind to behave in that way. This weight or pressure on the head is always the sign that the Mother's Force is in contact with you and press-ing from above to envelop your being and enter the adhara and pervade it; usually passing by degrees through the centres on its way downward. Some-times it comes first as Peace, some-times as Force, sometimes as the Mother's consciousness and her pres-ence, sometimes as Ananda.... Of course, the pressure need not al-ways be there; but if things take the ordinary course, it usually recurs or else continues until the adhara is open and there is no further obstacle to the descent of the higher consciousness.

Paracelsus – Remedies

The herbs correspond to the planets

Learn to recognise the difference of the herbs in the following manner:First, the herbs are divided into sev-en types together with the other ele-ments. This is done according to the type and nature of the star, because it corresponds to these seven types. As this requires a division into sev-en parts, the body also is divided into seven parts. The individual parts need appropriate herbs. The herbs under the category of Sun go with the heart. Those under the Moon are fit for the brain. Those un-der Venus heal the kidneys. Those under Saturn strengthen the spleen. Those under Mercury defend the lungs. Those under Jupiter care for the liver. What is ultimately under Mars, heals the bile in every aspect.Material that is renewing is very close to the heart, such as gold, lemon balm, etc. What phlegm (inertia) consumes by acting through the odour belongs to the brain, such as roses, camphor, musk, ambergris, etc. What the blood cools or warms serves the liver, such as tartar, aloe vera, etc.

2.1.3. Nanomedicine – An Ancient Application Brings in the Modern Era of Ayurveda MedicineNanotechnology is regarded to be THE future technology of the 21st centu-ry. (Grobe, 2008) Science and medi-cine have been intensively occupied with research on this technology for years. The term „nano“ is derived from the Greek word, which means „dwarf“. Nanotechnologies describe struc-tures which are 80,000 times small-er than the diameter of a human hair (1 nanometre = 10-9 metres). Due to these technologies, fundamental co-herences on the level of molecules and atoms are investigated, and new materials with very promising char-acteristics are developed. Therefore, “nanotechnologies are regarded as key technologies of the 21st century, becoming our ‘admission ticket’ into the future”, states the former Federal Minister for Education and Research, Dr. Annette Schavan, in her fore-word of the Nano Initiative Action Plan 2010 of the Federal Government (BMBF 2006) (Grobe, 2008).

Nanotechnology is gradually gaining more and more importance in our dai-ly life, like for example in the field of nutrition, medicine, cosmetics, tooth-pastes, car and paint industries. The health care system is considered to be one of the most promising applica-tion areas of nanotechnology. (BMBF, 2004) In medicine, it is applied in cancer therapy, and dental medi-cine, as a surface coating for medici-nal devices such as stunts, catheters, implants, etc. Wound dressings and plasters with nano silver are espe-cially used for the treatment of burns. Nanomaterials can amongst others support active substances in pen-etrating through the cell walls, the stomach and intestine walls and the blood-brain-barrier and can in gen-eral positively influence the effect of medicaments, reports the study, “Na-nomedicine – Chances and Risks”. The study points out a multitude of op-portunities but also some still unan-swered questions. Jenkins JT, et al. published 2012 in the USA, a study on „Excretion and Tox-icity of Gold-Iron Nanoparticles“. The scientists wrote: “Though gold nano-particles have been considered bio-inert, recent studies have questioned their safety. To reduce the potential for toxicity, we developed a nano-clustering of gold and iron oxide as a nanoparticle (nanorose) which biode-grades into subunits to facilitate rap-id excretion. In this present study, we demonstrate acid and macrophage lysosomal degradation of nanorose via loss of the near-infrared optical shift, and clearance of the nanorose in vivo following i.v. administration in C57BL/6 mice by showing gold con-

centration is significantly reduced in 11 murine tissues in as little as 31 days (p<0.01). Hematology and chemistry show no toxicity of nanorose injected mice up to 14 days after administra-tion. We conclude that the clustering design of nanorose does enhance the excretion of these nanoparticles, and that this could be a viable strategy to limit the potential toxicity of gold na-noparticles for clinical applications.” (Jenkins, Sept. 2012)According to the latest studies (Jenkins, Sept. 2012), (Chaudhary, 2010), (Kumar K. S., 2011), (Mohap-atra S. , 2011), (Sarkar P. K., 2010 a), (Sarkar P. K., 2010 b), nanomedicine brings about a scientific turning point for the traditional and empirically oriented Ayurvedic medicine. These studies (Chaudhary, 2010), (Sarkar P. K., 2010 a), (Kumar K. S., 2011) intro-duce scientific clarity into the heated discussions and insecurities regard-ing heavy metals in Ayurvedic medi-cines. Several studies claimed that bhasmas (preparations, where herbs, minerals and metals are triturated to micro-ashes under supervised condi-tions) are biologically produced na-noparticles. Ayurveda pharmaceutics are gaining new respect through a re-appraisal of bhasma-preparations as modern nano-technological applica-tions. (Rastogi, 2010)The Journal of Scientific & Industrial Research revealed a study from the department of Rasa Shastra, Faculty of Ayurveda, Banaras Hindu Univer-sity on “Ayurvedic bhasma: the most ancient application of nanomedicine”. The study confirmed that bhasmas, which are unique Ayurvedic metallic/mineral preparations, processed with

herbal juices or decoction, and ex-posed to a certain quantum of heat according to the puta (fire) system of Ayurveda have been used in India for already seven centuries. Research re-sults concluded, “Herbo-mineral for-mulations of Ayurveda constituting bhasma as an ingredient are as supe-rior now as they were then. Manufac-turing methods of bhasma are in tune with nanotechnology of the contem-porary era and prove advancement of Rasa Shastra, a branch of Ayurveda, which may cover scientific valida-tion of today. These medicines are safe in therapeutics.” (Sarkar P. K., 2010 a) The reports of the researches have not only been published in the Journal of Scientific and Industrial Research (December 2010), but also the Journal of Biomedical Nanotech-nology (Ayurvedic Bhasma: Nanom-edicine of Ancient India - Its Global Contemporary Perspective, January, 2011), a reputed journal in the field of nanotechnology (published in the US) has given place to the study. The paper also attracted international at-tention during the three-day interna-tional symposium on the safe use of nanomaterials and workshop on na-nomaterial safety, status, procedure, policy and ethical concerns, organised by the Indian Institute of Toxicologi-cal Research, Lucknow. In a different study, Christopher L. Brown of Griffith University, Aus-tralia, et al. used colloidal gold for treating experimentally-induced ar-thritis in rat models. Brown, et al. mentions that in the traditional Indi-an Ayurvedic medicine, svarna bhas-ma (gold ash) has been used as a therapeutic agent for several clinical

ed by Atomic Absorption Spectros-copy (AAS) and Infrared Spectrosco-py (IS), “mercury was not detected in the sample of Swarna bhasma. Often, the acceptability of Ayurvedic medi-cines in Western countries is limited due to the presence of toxic metals, notably lead, arsenic and mercury. The absence of mercury in the present Svarna bhasma preparation indicates proper incineration yielding a high-quality product with better potential acceptability.” (Brown, 2007) Dirk Mahl of the Duisburg-Essen Uni-versity in Germany has examined the dissolution of gold-nanoparticles in relation to their size, appearance, and functionalisation within the frame-work of his scientific doctoral thesis. In this work, gold-nanoparticles were synthetized, and their effect on the human cell was examined. A key issue which he presented was whether the portrayed gold-nanoparticles showed

toxical effect, and whether they could cause a stress reaction in a cell. Mahl mentions that due to the studies it can be supposed “that the released amount of gold ions has no damag-

disorders including bronchial asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes melli-tus, nervous diseases, etc. (compare S. Bajaj, S.B. Vohora, Ind. J. Phar-macol. 2000, 32, 339) Svarna bhas-ma is given orally to patients, usu-ally mixed with honey or cow ghee (a preparation made by heating but-ter). Ayurvedic doctors insist that this way, gold particles get absorbed through sublingual routes directly into the blood stream like a homeo-pathic drug. At least twenty different methods for preparing Svarna bhas-ma are described in various Ayurvedic texts based on incineration with mer-cury, mercury sulphide, sulphur, orpi-ment (As2S3), realgar (As2S2), chal-copyrite, etc. The preparation based on the incineration with mercury is considered to provide the best qual-ity. Therefore, a study was initiated for standardizing a Svarna bhasma preparation (incineration with mer-cury), its physicochemical character-ization and clinical evaluation. The procedure for purification was as per the classical text Rasratnasamuc-chaya (Kulkarni, 1998) and for incin-eration, the procedure followed was taken from the Sarangadhara-Sam-hita (Sarangadharacharya, 2002) The study reveals that gold in the tradi-tional Indian Ayurvedic medicine, Svarna bhasma (gold ash), has been characterized as globular particles of gold with an average size of 56 to 57 nm. It further detected that colloidal metallic gold (average particle size 27 nm) is a far more potent and effective anti-arthritic agent in rats than the disodium aurothiomalat (chemical compound) used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. ing effect on the human organism. In order to emphasize this, further attempts have to be made, amongst others in biological media.” “However, the concentration of the formed gold ions is decisive for the harmful ef-fect.” (Mahl, 2011)„Nanoparticles can serve as custom-izable, targeted drug delivery vehicles capable of ferrying chemotherapeu-tic agents or therapeutic genes into malignant cells while sparing healthy cells. This fact allows the use of smaller doses of toxic substances be-cause the drugs are delivered directly into the target tissue. It is also pos-sible to deliver the toxin in a control-led and time-release manner. From the obtained results, it was inferred that encapsulated drugs in polymeric nanocapsules with gold nanoparticles show better anticancer activity when compared with encapsulated drugs in polymeric nanocapsules with iron oxide nanoparticles and encapsulat-ed drugs in polymeric nanocapsules, which may be due to high interaction of gold nanoparticles with anticancer drugs“, writes Sathish Kumar in his anti-cancer study. (Kumar K. S., 2011)Further globally applied scientif-ic studies and investigations on the effects of the metallic and mineral therapeutical products on the physi-cal body are necessary in order to bring even more clarity into the dis-cussions on Ayurvedic healing agents. Global cooperation between physi-cians, modern scientists, and Vaidyas, “based on truth and trust” will be re-quired in order to achieve this. (Singh R, 2010)

In this case we cannot indeed ex-pect from this medicine a com-plete, untroubled cure; for dur-ing its use some symptoms appear which were not previously observa-ble in the disease, accessory symp-toms of the not perfectly appropri-ate remedy. This does by no means prevent a considerable part of the disease (the symptoms of the dis-ease that resemble those of the medicine) from being eradicated by this medicine, thereby establishing a fair commencement of the cure, but still this does not take place without those accessory symptoms, which are, however, always moder-ate when the dose of the medicine is sufficiently minute.

Samuel Hahnemann, M.D.

When partially similar drugs are used, complete and easy cure cannot be ex-pected. When such drug is used, some

new symptoms not existing earlier in the patient, may appear temporarily. These symptoms pertain to the pa-tient but not to the drug. This will prevent curing disease partially or most of it. It becomes a good begin-ning for cure. Then also some new symptoms may crop up and compli-cate. They are the drug symptoms not similar to the disease symptoms. We need not fear much. If the dose of the medicinal is regulated they wane out slowly.

If the symptoms similar to the disease are within the purview of peculiar and prominent symptoms of the remedy, whatever small number they be, there is no need to count much upon the remaining symptoms having no sim-ilarity. The cure will result without particular inconvenience.

§164

The small number of homœopathic symptoms present in the best se-lected medicine is no obstacle to the cure in cases where these few medicinal symptoms are chiefly of an uncommon kind and such as are peculiarly distinctive (characteris-tic) of the disease; the cure takes place under such circumstances without any particular disturbance.

Samuel Hahnemann, M.D.

Paracelsus Health & Healing 7/X 19

§165

If, however, among the symptoms of the remedy selected, there be none that accurately resemble the distinctive (characteristic), pecu-liar, uncommon symptoms of the case of disease, and if the reme-dy correspond to the disease only in the general, vaguely described, indefinite states (nausea, debil-ity, headache, and so forth), and if there be among the known medi-cines none more homœopathically appropriate, in that case the phy-sician cannot promise himself any immediate favorable result from the employment of this unhomœo-pathic medicine.

Samuel Hahnemann, M.D.

Suppose the drug selected does not correspond to the peculiar or promi-nent symptoms of the disease. It tal-lies only with the general nature of the drug in a vague manner having similarity with common symptoms only like nausea, weakness, headache etc., and no drug of better s is avail-able. Then that drug only can be used, but the Physician cannot expect quick and favorable results.

There is a common question that many have raised about the primary difference between exoteric and eso-teric (traditional) astrology. I thought that this would be a great opportu-nity to answer this question and also present the soul-centered, esoteric ruling planets of the twelve signs. One of the most wonderful things about astrology is that it is a living science. You can find its signs and symbols everywhere. I was once in Greece, at the airport on the island of Rhodes traveling to the beautiful island of Crete. When we arrived at the Rhodes airport, I was confronted by two doors with Greek lettering on

them. I do not speak Greek but I am familiar with its special alphabet. On one door was written the word “eso-teriki” and on the other it said, “exo-teriki”. Well although I don’t speak the language, at least I was in the right place! The problem was which door to enter. I thought to myself, “The esoteric means that which is inside while exoteric means things that are outside. We are traveling within the borders of Greece, so ‘Esoteriki’ has to mean ‘domestic flights’, while the ‘Exoteriki’ door must mean ‘interna-tional flights’. So I went through the esoteric door and got safely and hap-pily to Crete.Esoteric astrology is a way of looking at the horoscope that reveals the in-ner life, the real purpose of the soul in the present incarnation. Exoteric or traditional astrology reveals the psy-chological dynamics of our personal-ity and their characteristics. The tran-sits or movements of the planets as seen through the “esoteric door” tells us about the dynamics of our soul’s life while using the lens of the “exo-teric door” tells us about the events in our ordinary day-to-day existence. When you bring these two together, when you align the life of the person-ality with the purpose of the soul, you have Soul-Centered Astrology. Many of us have reached a place in life in which we are exhausted by the constant ups and downs of our exo-teric, outer life circumstances. We find ourselves trapped in our “biological karma”, in a life rooted in our instinc-tual nature and ruled primarily by the Moon. It is a life in which we com-plain: “My problems are Mommy and Daddy’s fault! It’s society’s fault, the

environment’s fault, or my husband’s fault!” The more we try to deal with our emotional challenges emotionally or our mental challenges mentally, or our physical challenges physically, the more exhausted we become. An in-creasing number of us are discovering that in order to resolve our outer prob-lems, we have to work from the inside (esoteric) out and not from the outside (exoteric) in. Soul-Centered Astrology presents a road map that connects the inner and the outer lives through the natal horoscope. It is the same birth chart; it is just viewed differently. The esoteric purpose of astrology, an ancient science of initiation, is to stimulate the development of con-sciousness. Astrology is very definite-ly an instrument for the unfolding of your intuition. Real intuition is that faculty of your higher mind that al-lows you to see beyond the form into essence and beyond matter into ener-gy. I have been an astrologer for over 30 years and astrology has shown me that I am a soul with a body and not a body with a soul. The more we can identify ourselves from that perspec-tive, the easier it becomes to resolve our outer challenges and the more we open ourselves to the Light of Love. When we are functioning esoteri-cally as Soul-Centered individuals, our life is not centered in our navels! So much of the tragedy in the world comes from a disease called “me-my-mine-itis”! It is an illness that is root-ed in the illusion of separateness. The Age of Aquarius insists that we be-come increasingly more collectivized and group-aware. The beauty of this mandate is that instead of losing our individuality in the process, we gain

it! Uranus, the ruler of the Age, is the planet that unfolds our unique singu-larity. This is happening and will con-tinue to happen through the sign of the Water Bearer, a sign that brings us more and more in touch with each other through computer technology, the internet, and all the other forms of the media that are creating an ever more interconnected humanity. The magic of consciousness is that the more individualized we become, the more universalized is our perspective on life. In other words, the more I am my (true!) self, the more I can see my-self as you. There is only One Self and we are all part of It.At this point, I would like to share with you the Soul-Centered perspec-tive of viewing the planets in their capacity as rulers of the twelve signs. Please keep in mind that the esoteric planetary rulers of the horoscope only function as such when the individual

identifies him or herself with and as the Soul. For our purposes, you can apply what is said to the Sun or rising sign of the chart. The ruler of Aries ceases to become Mars and becomes Mercury when the Ram is living esoterically. The soul-centered Aries is still initiating but the point of origin and the initial im-pulse to act comes from Divine Mind. It is then that Aries can infuse this higher, creative idea (Mercury) into the collective mind of humanity. The personality of the Aries individual will create the right profession so that such inspiration may be given out in the course of one’s daily life. When Taurus is working esoterical-ly, the planet Vulcan becomes the ruler of this sign. Whether Vulcan

is a physical or metaphysical plan-et doesn’t matter. Vulcan represents an archetype in humanity’s collective consciousness. Vulcan is the Black-smith of the gods of Mount Olym-pus. These immortal ones would bring all their miracle tools (in the form of their weapons) to Vulcan so that they could be sharpened, refined and re-energized. The soul-centered Taurean does not accept the status quo of his or her physical life. This Bull is deal-ing with the alchemy of being able to impregnate matter with greater crea-tive possibilities. The Bull’s eye is then the Third Eye, which allows one to see the real truth hidden within its forms. When we move into an esoterically led life in Gemini, we no longer have the duality and mutability of this sign and its traditional ruler, Mercury. The ruler of the Twins then becomes Ve-nus, who is attracting opposites to create a greater harmony of unity. Ve-nus through Gemini is bringing people and ideas together for transpersonal purposes. Venus is then externalizing what we call the Law of Right Human Relations. This Law is the underlying principle of the New Age.A Cancerian incarnation that is eso-terically focused no longer cries out for “my mommy, my house and my food.” The influence of the Moon is re-placed by the light of Neptune. Nep-tune is the universal source of supply. He is the Lord of the Oceans and as such you can find all and everything and in huge quantities. The Neptune-ruled Cancer is working to create sup-ply for the entire human family. He or she is becoming more impersonal to the personal life and more personal to the impersonal life.

The Sun still rules Leo on the level of the soul. This is not the physical body of the Sun, but the Heart of our great star. The physical Sun casts a shadow, so that the personality-centered Leo can be a real drain on other people’s energies. His or her personality shines so brightly that it obscures other peo-ple’s creative light. The Heart of the Sun casts no shadow. It is a light that does not shine, but radiates. This ra-diation inspires, energizes, and helps the creative process in all of its forms.Mercury is no longer the ruler of the soul-centered Virgo. Esoteric Virgo never complains about what should be done with his or her life energy. The job search is over and the real mission in life has begun. It is now the Moon, the Eternal Mother, who rules this sign. If you count nine signs (nine months) from Virgo along the preces-sion of the equinoxes, you come to Capricorn. Capricorn represents the Christ, the Initiate. Virgo holds with-in her the promise of the birth of the Coming One within each of us. This Coming One is the Soul.Once we find ourselves in the realm of esoteric Libra, we are no longer in a perpetual game of “you verses me.” Competition ceases, as do Libra’s pro-jected ideals about what relationship should be about. Venus no longer rules and Uranus takes her place. Relation-ship is now geared for collective, im-personal purposes. In the personality life, soul-centered Libra still uses the magnetic power of Venus but this is not to attract people to her for per-sonal aims and needs. It is a magnetic power under the dominance of Uranus and as such, all interpersonal con-tacts have transpersonal goals. Libra

is now free of the relationship game.Mars is also the soul-centered ruler of Scorpio just as he is the person-ality ruler of this sign. But there is a significant difference in terms of how Mars now functions. It is here that Mars becomes the instrument of death to the life of the personal-ity’s desires. The purpose is not just to “finish off” the lower self but to transform its powers for the use of the Higher Self. Quite a job and as any Scorpio on the Path will tell you—it isn’t so easy! Once accomplished, the soul-centered Scorpio is ready to be an instrument for the healing and regeneration of others. When we come to Sagittarius, we find that the esoteric ruler of this sign is the Earth. Sagittarius is no longer Mars

ruled by Jupiter’s idealism and lack of responsibility. The purpose of a soul-centered Sagittarian is to become the one-pointed disciple on the Path and to keep the Centaur’s arrow steadily pointed at the goal of the soul. The Path for all of us is an earthly one. We give ourselves to the earth and serve her humanity through one field of service or another. In Capricorn, Saturn is also the ruler on both the personality and soul lev-els. Again there is a major difference in Saturn’s expression. Instead of the lower Saturnian nature proclaiming: “My life is so limited!” or “I am going to control everything and everyone in sight so that I make sure I get what I want,” Saturn’s influence is raised up. The soul-centered Capricorn has passed through the boundaries of Sat-urn’s rings (by first respecting them!). We no longer have a restrictive Sat-urn but a highly structured one. This planet then is able to give Capricorn an understanding of right responsibil-ity and correct boundaries for the ex-pression of the soul’s life.Once we enter the energies of Aquar-ius, something wonderful takes place on the esoteric level. Standing behind the Water Bearer is its esoteric rul-er, Jupiter, Lord of the Second Ray of Love/Wisdom. Jupiter is the govern-ing force behind the New Age operat-ing through Uranus on the personality level. Uranus inspires the invention of all of our modern tools of technology. But what is the purpose of all of these methods of communication? It is to bring about a united humanity so that the soul energy of Love and Wisdom can come through into our individu-al and collective consciousness. So it

is that the soul-centered Aquarian is at work networking humanity for its own good and benefit. Finally, we come to Pisces. What we find here is that instead of the self-destructive, self-annihilating, self-denying powers of the lower Neptune and Jupiter influence, a new vision of the Higher Self emerges. This is Pluto, the esoteric ruler at work through its sign. Pluto on the soul-centered level indicates that the redemption of the lower self has been completed. Res-urrection as the healing and potent Phoenix has taken place. No longer does the Fish have to sacrifice itself through martyrdom. But the Pluto-ruled Pisces is indeed sacrificed in the true sense of the word. “Sacrifice” comes from two Latin roots mean-ing “to make sacred, to be holy”. It is through the esoteric death process of Pluto that esoteric Pisces is made whole.

If the food served is heavy, it is bet-ter that one eats half of stomach or two-thirds of the stomach capacity. Such a restriction is not there in re-lation to digest and metabolize light food dishes. The requirement of heavy food dishes is determined by the de-gree of the heaviness and the person’s harmony. There is another factor, which is con-sidered essential in matters of food. If the food is of homologous nature, the heavy and light food get digest-ed easily, but if it is not homologous, care should be taken to ensure that light food is taken in greater quanti-ty than the heavy food. It must, how-ever, be noted, that eating only light food does not give adequate strength to the body as much as it disables a person gradually to eat even a little heavy food. Enough exercise should also be given to the digestive system by eating small quantities of heavy food as well. Food, taken in appropriate quanti-ty, quality and mixture of heavy and light food, certainly helps a person in bringing about strength, complexion, comfort and longevity, since it does

By nature, light food is said to be con-ducive to good health and therefore needs to be taken in preference to heavy food. Starting with light food dishes and concluding with light food dishes, too, is considered good. In any case, heaviness should not be felt in the stomach after every meal. Stom-ach-full-eating is not to be under-stood as stomach-heavy-eating. Light food articles carry the quality of air and fire and are by nature stimulant of appetite. not disturb the equilibrium of the tis-sues of the body. Other factors like appropriateness of time, of place and its ambience and the attitude of the person are also of great importance. It is avoidable to eat heavy food dur-ing inappropriate times. Likewise, it is equally avoidable to eat in market places, railway-platforms, shopping-malls and other public places. Besides clean food and a clean place for eat-ing, the ambience also has to be calm and quiet and even serene for eating. Light music and silence are also rec-ommended. The attitude of the person should be pleasant as he approaches food. One cannot be depressive, an-gry, tense, absent-minded and argu-mentative either before, during or after a meal. Such attitudes destroy the quiet and holy process of diges-tion and transformation of food into energy. Eating pastries after a sumptuous meal is avoidable since pastries are considered heavy. Eating dry fruits is also equally avoidable. Dehydrated vegetables, chips, roasted food, ex-cessive hard and too cold food are also avoidable after a meal. Butter-milk is advisable after a meal and considered good. Rock salt is prefer-able daily and gooseberries, a spoon of honey, and a glass of hot milk are highly recommended. All this is of particular value in food cooking and should find its rightful place in the kitchen. Asafoetida, ginger, corian-der seeds and fenugreek seeds should also find their place in food in very small quantity. They help mainte-nance of good health through effec-tive digestion. Pisces Ferrum Phosphoricum Nr. 3

The following is a quotation from the chapter “The Bridge of Life” in the book “The Tree of Life” which also gave name to this article.

Dr. George W. Carey, Los Angeles CA

wrote in 1917 the books “The Tree of

Life” and in 1918 “The Wonder of the

Human Body – Physical Regeneration

According the Laws of Chemistry

and Physiology“.

Dr. Carey connects his comprehensive

spiritual knowledge with Astrology

and the 12 different tissue salts by

Dr. Schüssler. His books are almost

one hundred years old but they are

still relevant even in modern times.

Dr. W. H. Schüssler noted 12 different

tissue salts in all healthy human

cells. Dr. Carey now links chemistry

with astrology. Each sign of the

Zodiac is corresponding with one of

the cell salts.

Phosphate of IronSynonyms: Ferrum Phosphate, Ferri Phosphas.Formula: Fe3 (PO4)2

Phosphate of iron may be pre-pared by mixing sodium phos-phate with sulphate of iron. The salt precipitated by this union is filtered, washed, dried and rubbed to a powder. The iron phosphate should not be used below the sixth (deci-mal trituration), as large doses of iron, as in tinctures, have a bad effect on the mucous lining of

the stomach, injure the teeth und utterly fail to supply iron to the blood where it is needed to carry oxygen, the life giver. One red blood corpuscle does not exceed the one hundred and twenty millionth of a cubic inch. There are more than three million such cells in one drop of blood, and these cells carry the iron in the blood. How necessary, then, to administer the salts of iron to hungry cells in the most minute molecular form. Each one of the twelve inorganic salts has its own sphere of func-tion and curative action. Thus we find the phosphate of iron mo-lecularly deficient in all fever and inflammatory symptoms.Health depends on a proper amount of iron phosphate in the blood, for the molecules of this salt have chemical affinity for oxygen and carry it to all parts of the organism. When these oxy-gen carriers are deficient, the cir-culation is increased in order to conduct a sufficient amount of oxygen to the extremities with the diminished quantity of iron, exactly as seven men must move faster to do the work of ten. This increased rate of motion of the blood is changed to heat, caused by friction, otherwise known as the "conservation of energy.”The heat, or the increase in the temperature of blood, has been named fever, from the Latin word fervere, meaning “To boil out.”

Paracelsus Health & Healing 7/X 29

Ferrum Phosphoricum is also a very important agent for the iron metab-olism. Like Natrium Chloratum, it is employed in the case of hypoferric anaemia, however, for a different rea-son. (2) It ensures that iron is taken up by the body and is integrated into the erythrocytes. It is required here for binding the breathed in oxygen. In other words: Ferrum Phosphoricum helps in the resorption of iron which is taken up with the food. It is fur-thermore helpful for transporting iron to where it is required. (3)Ferrum Phosphoricum is helpful in different ways in coping with the en-vironment. (4) This characteristic is, for example, expressed in a confron-tation with foreign bodies like viruses, bacteria, or other pathogens. The in-side equals the outside. Everyone has to deal with one’s environment and must find one‘s place there. The same also goes for interpersonal relation-ships. (5) Here, Ferrum Phosphoricum

CommentaryFerrum Phosphoricum is regarded as the first inflammation remedy of the Schüssler salts, i.e., it is administered as a matter of priority at the begin-ning of an inflammation or an infec-tion before other inflammation medi-cations. It works best during the first signs of an infection or any other in-flammation. Quite often, it is very fast acting.

is helpful due to its positive influence on the disposition of the person con-cerned, where it strengthens will-power and self-awareness and builds up vitality and self-confidence. (6) It defeats fatigue and exhaustion which can be indicators for a lack of Fer-rum Phosphoricum. For this reason, Ferrum Phosphoricum is also a rem-edy which can be administered during great or long-lasting strain where it helps to fill up the reserves of energy again. (7)Dr. Carey allocates Ferrum Phosphori-cum to the zodiac sign of Pisces. This sign of the zodiac is associated with the feet. He backs up this argument by describing iron as the fundament of the blood, while, similarly, the feet are the fundament of the body. Fur-thermore, those born under the sign of Pisces are often just as magnetic as iron is. He describes Pisces per-sons as natural healers as they have great healing power in their hands.

The writer fails to see any re- evancy between the word fever and a deficiency in iron phos-phate molecules in the blood. From Hippocrates to Koch you will not find a true definition of fever outside of the Biochemic theory. It is not simply the heat that causes distress in a fever patient, but it is the lack of oxygen in the blood due to a deficiency in iron, the carrier of oxygen. The feet are the foundation of the body. Iron is the founda-tion of the blood. Most diseases of Pisces people commence with symptoms indicating a deficien-cy of iron molecules in the blood; hence it is inferred that those born between the dates of Feb-ruary 19 and March 21 use more iron than those born to other signs.Iron is known as the magnet-ic mineral, due to the fact that it attracts oxygen. Pisces people possess great magnetic force in their hands and make the best magnetic healers. (1)

In actual fact, those born under Pis-ces are often attractive persons who – despite their chaotic and sometimes unrealistic characteristic traits – are almost always lovable and endearing people.Pisces born are highly sensitive. They react strongly to the feelings of other people. The developed Pisces type can have a redemptive and healing effect on his fellow human beings due to his deep understanding for everything human, his empathy for the needy, and due to his attitude of submission and acceptance.Pisces are normally allocated to the sea, the ocean. In fact, it is not the ocean as we know it but rather the ocean of space which is full of vital energy and healing power. It is this vi-tal energy that has a healing effect on body and soul.

The malady mostly is no-ticed to occur between the 25th and 45th year of age. But, an increasing number of children complain about migraine-like headaches. After pu-berty, mostly women are affected whereas similar symptomatic pat-terns with men many a times are not named as migraines.Because of the numerous cases, ap-proximately 500 million Euro are spent on an annual basis in Germany alone for the medicinal treatment of migraines. Thus, many affected ones, tired of semi-heavy or heavy phar-maceutics are in search of alternative treatments, and so, more and more headache-suffering people come to our medical Ayurveda cures. The ancient scriptures of Ayurveda already describe the migraine pains and many a times successful way of treatment has not lost its validity till now. In contrast to allopathy, Ayurve-da focuses on a combination of heal-

ing approaches and so, is practical especially for chronic diseases that have a psychic component.

Development of migraines from Ayurvedic viewIncreased Vata and Pitta mostly are the causes for migraines. It is es-sential in classical Ardhavabhedak treatment to differentiate the spe-cific cause. The propelling force is Vata, especially when a Vata-Prakrti exists that is noticeable by physical and psychical symptoms (prone to congestion, anxieties, nervousness, etc.)In case of exaggerated Pitta, mostly heat in the head occurs, which hap-pens together with skin problems, high blood pressure, facing too many expectations and undigested emo-tions. In both cases, Kapha is also af-fected which is seen in added nau-sea, vomiting or heaviness.Even when the pathophysiology of migraines is not fully understood by contemporary medicine, the dosha processes named coud be interpreted as follows:Hyperactive nerve cells cause tension in the blood vessels and an ensuing expansion. Inflammation causing substances are set free by manifold processes and produce the extensive image of symptoms. In anamnesis, all typical factors should be checked in order to fig-ure out a dominance. Many a times, combined forms are found which de-mands treatment of the two or even three doshas. If one cause is definite, the respective dosha should come to the foreground and be treated.

Causes for migraines from Ayurvedic viewIncomplete nutrition, dry, sour and cold foods, excessive bodily exercis-es, diverse stress factors, traumata, physical tensions, deeply seated ag-gressions and other emotions.

Assignment of the symptoms of migraines from Ayurvedic viewVata: Pain, high sensitivity to noises, flickering eyes, eventually neurologi-cal failuresPitta: Sensitivity to light, heartburn, burning sensation of heatKapha: nausea, vomiting, heaviness in head and body

Ayurvedic possibilities of treatment (carefully adjusted individually)Again, the doshas respectively have to be considered in thorough man-ner. For a differentiated diagnosis and therapy it is highly recommended to consult an Ayurvedic doctor or a naturopath. Normally, the Vata constitutions dom-inate in our cultural hemisphere, and consequently the psychological forms of treatment, oil massages, Vata nu-trition and rhythmic lifestyle are de-cisive factors for a success. If, by the constitution or symptoms a strong Pitta-form exists, especially Shodana-treatments (Virecana, Rak-ta-Mosha) and cooling Takra-Dharas make sense. Generally, besides con-sidering the psyche thoroughly, the metabolism should be looked at and be treated as per the need.Treatment is chosen from the follow-ing list according to the constitution-al evaluation:

n Mild Shodhana (purging) with fore-going Snehana (inner and outer oil-ing) with Panchatikta Ghrit

n Astha/Anuvasana (herbal and oil clyster in daily exchange)

n Oil massages, feet massages, Shiro Dhara (pouring oil on forehead)

TCM A l le rgy Treatment

Def ined

With the oncoming season of aller-gies and the accompanying symp-toms, I am seeing more patients in the clinic who want to address this. I’d like to breakdown the tradition-al Chinese medicine (TCM) approach to diagnosing and treating this very common condition. As most of us know, either from per-sonal experience, friends or family who deal with this, or from seeing the blitz of commercials advertising al-lergy medication at this time of year, the common symptoms range from sneezing, dry or sore throat, itchy wa-tery eyes, and a runny or congested nose. Firstly, I’d like to clarify how we view the onset of these symptoms in TCM. In TCM we can break almost any con-dition down into the categories of Yin and Yang. However, these are not specific enough to understand some-thing like this. So, we break each category down further. Seasonal al-lergies often have an acute onset at the start of the allergy season. This is our first clue. Acute will belong to the category of Yang (Yang being the more external, hot, moving, protect-

ing, warming, dynamic energy of the body). We can also see that the up-per part of the body, mainly the head, is mostly affected by the allergens. Lastly, we know that the allergens are an external influence affecting the body. This external, acute “invasion” of the upper body (upper, especially the head, belonging to the yang part of the body) are all signs that point to a “yang” type of syndrome. The rea-son that I say “invasion” is that we can describe signs and symptoms in terms of the six ‘pathogenic influenc-es’ or from the literal Chinese transla-tion, Xie Qi – 邪气 – evil qi (qi being translated as energy). The main Xie Qi in seasonal allergies are wind, and either heat or cold. The pathogen of ‘wind’ has the character-istics of coming on quickly and leav-ing quickly, moving around the body, and often ‘enters’ through the head. This is often combined with heat, which will lead to symptoms like fe-ver, inflammation in the sinuses, or throat, and red itchy eyes. If the Wind is combined with a cold pathogen, then we would see symptoms of a runny nose with clear discharge, an aversion to wind or cold, and more sneezing. Both the cold and the heat can cause headaches, but they will present differently. Of course, we must consider why some people have allergies and oth-ers don’t. Yin and Yang must be in balance. If they are not, then we can see presentations like a weakened im-mune system. If the immune system is weak, then allergens have a better chance of affecting someone. So, this would be the second part of our focus of treatment. This would be more of

a Yin syndrome as it is chronic. This could be due to many factors such as poor lifestyle habits like smoking or a poor diet, lack of sleep, use of too many pharmaceutical medicines, or hereditary factors. So, now our treatment plan takes shape; to clear the wind and heat or cold from the yang external me-ridians (energetic pathways running throughout the body) which are caus-ing the symptoms, and also to boost the immune system to guard against these influences. But, how can we do that? With acupuncture, we will target the meridians which affect the nose, si-nuses, and head in general. We will also choose some systemic points on the body to strengthen the overall immune system. So, we can choose points on the yang/ external merid-ians that are affecting the head and face, and also points on the yin/ inter-nal meridians that are affecting the immune system. We can see from this image (left side) that this Yang meridian Yang Ming – Bright Yang – 阳明) has a connection to the nasal area. We can choose 2 or 3 points on this meridian to help with headaches, and relieve inflammation causing sore throat, and nasal con-gestion (no points on the neck/ throat area would be used for this purpose). We can also see from this other image (next page: below left) that this me-ridian (Tai Yang – Great yang – 太阳) starts at the upper sinus area, runs over the head, and down the back. We can also choose some local and dis-tal points from this meridian to help clear the head, and nose. This is con-sidered to be the most external me-

ridian in the body and thus is often the first affected by external patho-genic influence. In addition to using acupuncture to treat the symptoms affecting the head and face area, we will also pro-vide an herbal formula that will aid in expelling the pathogenic influences in addition to strengthening the im-mune system. A common treatment plan in TCM in a case like this would be: 益气固表,扶正去邪 – to bene-fit the energy and solidify the exterior defense, and strengthen the immuni-ty while chasing out the pathogenic influence. This can be combined with some sim-ple dietary changes that may be influ-encing the condition, as well as some recommendations for vitamins which will supplement the immune boosting focus of the treatment plan.

Up to 50% of all Germans are suf-fering from or have already suffered from paradontitis (colloquially also called paradontosis). If not treated, inflammations of the gums, bleed-ing of the gums, bad breath and – if the worst comes to the worst – loss of teeth could result. The correlation with other physical disease like heart failure and vascular diseases is cur-rently being discussed. In most cases, an inflammation of the gums is the forerunner of paradontitis, triggered off by bacterial dental plaque. For the most part in the case of grown-ups, the dental plaque seems to excrete decomposition products which in-duce the body’s defence mechanisms to attack not only these bacteria but also the body’s own tissue. Thus, jaw bones, periodontal liga-ment, gingival tissue and the teeth themselves are attacked, which can lead to a loss of connective tissue, bones and teeth. The first warning sign for an exist-ing paradontitis is a sensitivity of the teeth to cold, bleeding of the gums (mainly while cleaning the teeth), re-ceding of the gums from the tooth

and bad breath, even shortly after the teeth had been cleaned. Here, the dis-ease can concern one individual tooth or several teeth.

Risk Factors of ParadontitisParadontitis mainly occurs when the defence situation is weakened. There is sometimes an inclination towards autoimmune processes. Here, a gen-eral reaction pattern of the body can be observed (Colititis ulcerosa, diabe-tes, irritable bowel syndrome, rheu-matic diseases, diseases of the thyroid glands, etc.). Frequently, an accumu-lation of these diseases or of cases of paradontitis can be observed in the family.Paradontitis can occur during preg-nancy, when the connective tissue is loosened due to hormonal changes and are more sensitive with regard to bacteria. With regard to classical medicine, the disposition to autoimmune disease pattern cannot be influenced. Home-opathic therapy, however, is able to have an impact on the body’s own im-mune system in a regulating way and is thus very well suited for support in cases of paradontitis.

The Most Important Aspects of Paradontitis Treatment and ProphylaxisDental hygiene is the alpha and ome-ga of paradontitis prophylaxis and treatment. If a genetic disposition exists, spe-cial prophylactic measures should be taken. These include above aver-age frequent or at least regular dental visits and the observance of profes-sional cleaning of the teeth, the area

between the teeth and the gums, the gingival pockets, as well as the re-moval of dental tartar. Here, dental tartar and dental plaque are thoroughly removed. If receding gums and pockets already exist, these are thoroughly cleaned so that tis-sue decomposition processes can be stopped in this area. After reconstruction, certain rules for cleaning, nutrition and behaviour help to minimize the recurrence of bacteria accumulations.

Tooth Cleaning Technique and Tooth Cleaning AgentsQuite often, grown-ups scrub their teeth in an uncoordinated way. In gen-eral, this is not a good thing. Especially in the case of an already damaged tis-sue – as in the case of paradontitis – harmful bacteria of the teeth get un-derneath the loosened area between the teeth and the gums. There, they cannot be reached by the toothbrush, and the degenerative process can-not be stopped from the outside any more. Electrical toothbrushes with ro-tating brush heads or flat, worn and frayed toothbrushes promote the de-posit of dental plaque underneath the area between teeth and gums. One should rather only clean in one direction: from the gums towards the tooth. Here, only gentle pressure should be employed. It is recommended to use dental floss or – even better – small toothbrush-es (interdental brushes) – for the gaps between the teeth, which can clear-ly remove plaque easier than dental floss alone. The dentist can measure out and recommend suitable brushes.Customary toothpaste can also dam-

age the oral environment. Toothpaste is often quite aggressive and con-tains substances which attack tooth and gums instead of protecting them. Toothpowder with mineral compo-nents and herbs is better suited (These can be found at health food stores or on the internet). There exist special toothbrushes with smaller heads and shorter brushes that are particularly used for tooth cleaning during the occurrence of paradontitis. These can be ordered at the dentist’s or on the Internet.Teeth should not be cleaned directly after the meal as the tooth enamel can be softened by acidic food and can then be damaged. The French practice it in the right way. Eating cheese to round off a meal closes the tooth enamel and supplies the teeth with the necessary calcium. If you are using customary tooth-brushes, you should use soft bristles and disinfect the toothbrush after each dental care.

Oil Pulling for Fighting ParadontitisA useful application for the preven-tion and treatment of paradontitis which has originated from Ayurvedic therapy is oil pulling. It serves for the strengthening of teeth and gums as well as for detoxification. For this, high-quality cold-pressed oils (sunflower oil or sesame oil in biological quality) are used. Olive oil may also be used. It has, however, no strong detoxification effect. In the mornings – on an empty stom-ach – one tablespoon of oil is put into the mouth and is moved to and fro inside the oral cavity. The oil can be

Help with Paradontit is

drawn through the teeth, it can be slurped, sucked or chewed. It must, however, not be swallowed. After 10 to 15 minutes, the saliva-oil mix-ture is spat out and one rinses several rimes with warm water. After oil pull-ing, the teeth are cleaned the normal way.For the unpractised muscles of the mouth, oil pulling is very strenuous. Therefore, you should continuously increase the time, starting with three minutes and building up to 10-15 minutes daily.Grapefruit seed extract regulates the pH-value of the mouth and is also well suited as a mouth rinse (10-15 drops on a glass of water).

Nutrition during ParadontitisEverything that harms our body or that is beneficial to it also applies to paradontitis as well. Smoking, sugar, unhealthy foods, over-acidification of the body, etc. lead to a weakening of the entire organism and the immune system. Healthy nutrition and life conduct are thus always building ele-ments for health and wellbeing. For the development and strength-ening of connective tissue and teeth, mainly the consumption of green foodstuffs has proved to be favour-able. These are amongst others con-taining folic acid which is missing when paradontosis occurs.Herbage drinks are also suitable (barley juice, wheat, spelt, khorasan wheat, etc.) With their high contents of silic acid, vitamins and amino ac-ids, these have a stabilizing effect on connective tissue and immune sys-tem.

Homeopathy and ParadontitisSchüssler Salts:Mainly Schüssler Salts No. 1 (Calcium fluoratum D12) and No. 2 (Calcium phosphoricum D6) have an effect as tissue salts on human ligaments, ten-dons and bones. They should build up the tooth enamel, stabilize and firm it, and can be taken 1 x 3 (powder or tablets) per day. (After an ingestion period of two months, a break of at least 2 months has to be observed due to possible side-effects). High Potency Homeopathy:Classical homeopathy as a rule is concerned with single homeopathic products from C30 onwards and to bring about a stabilization of the im-mune system through the medication stimulus. Here, individualized homeo-pathic remedies are prescribed which are in accordance with the existing symptoms of the patient. Thus, for example, Mercurius sol. can be effective when paradontitis occurs after a lot of amalgam had been used inside the oral cavity.During tooth-brushing, the gums are bleeding; they are frayed and swol-len. The teeth are loose and will later fall out. Mercury is considered to be the main remedy for auto-immune processes inside the body. This means, paradontitis occurrence is often asso-ciated with other diseases like Colitis ulcerosa, etc. Nitricum acidum is mainly applied when the gums are sore and / or in-flamed and strong pain occurs. The remedy has a special effect on all mu-cous membranes, mainly in the case of strongly bleeding gums.

Carbo vegetabilis, charcoal, is a reme-dy to counteract decline; it can there-fore be applied for paradontitis. It is mainly helpful when teeth ache while chewing and when the gums have an inclination to suppurations. It is often associated with problems of stomach and intestines.Further homeopathical remedies for the treatment of paradontitis could be:Ammonium corbonicum, Arsenicum album, Barium carbonicum, Calcium carbonicum, Causticum, Iodum, Ka-lium carbonicum, Kalium phosphori-cum, Lachesis, Mercurius corosivus, Muriaticum acidum, Phosphoricum acidum, Plumbum, Phosphorus, Sta-phisagria, Sulphur, Zinc and others. Each individual remedy exhibits in-dividual symptom complexes and should only be prescribed by homeo-paths.

Aloe Vera ( True A loe )

Erika Röthlisberger

Latin: Aloe vera, Synonym: Aloe Barbadensis: This name is referring to its origin, the West Indian Island of Barbados. Aloe ferox Mill. or Cape Aloe: This name is referring to its origin, the South African cape region.Family: Asphodeloideae

The aloe is native to tropical/subtropi-cal areas. It grows on dry, sandy, and limy soils. More than 300 varieties ex-ist. Aloe vera has fleshy, sword-shaped

leaves with a thorny edge, which – de-pending on the variety – can grow to a length of 20-50 cm. These develop out of the middle of a rosette. The protec-tive outward layer of the leaf is cov-ered with a waxy layer (= caticula), whose stomata filter air and water. The inflorescences are long stemmed, narrow and bell-shaped. From the blossoms, oval fruits develop that turn brown during maturity.1

The older texts only mention the use of the gel from the leaves. At a lat-er time, the Arabs introduced rub-ber which was gained by boiling; the substance was processed by apothe-caries in the shape of tinctures, ex-tracts, and powders. Today, there are two quite different aloe preparations, the one from the very bitter, yellow aloin juice from the leaf bark, and the one from the leaf core, the transpar-ent plant gel.For medication, the leaves of aloe vera (gel), and aloe ferox (juice) are used. Due to the low aloin contents of the aloe vera, dermatology prefers the mucilaginous plant core, transparent

gel, for external applications. Aloe ferox, however, has a higher content of anthranoid, this being the reason why aloin containing tinctures are produced from the extract. The two fields of application are:

1. As the therapeutically strongest plant laxative (preparations made from aloin juice are sold only in pharmacies)

2. The application of aloe vera gel in the field of cosmetics and health. Made durable through a special method, the leaf gel product is com-mercially available. Here, one has to pay attention to certified products which are subject to regular quality controls.2

Tinctures/Extracts/Powders pro-duced from aloe ferox contain an-thranoids (aloin), resins, and bitter substances. The aloin, a bitter, yellow-reddish juice, is situated in the layers at the leaf edges. For further process-ing to tinctures, extracts, and powder, this juice is gained by a cut at the leaf node. Aloe tincture is known in folk medicine as a bitter stomachic, which in low doses stimulates the secretion of the bile. In higher doses it is con-sidered to be the strongest plant lax-ative which may only be applied for a short time and which is available only on prescription. The leaf core, gel, from aloe vera contains mucopolysaccharides, sa-ponines, amino acids, vitamins: A, C, B1, B2, B6, B12, and minerals: cal-cium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, sodium, manganese, copper, chrome, zinc, enzymes, and flavonoids. Ace-mannan, a long chain polysaccharide, is one of the main active ingredients that experimentally activates the im-mune system, protects the cell mem-branes and is active against viruses, bacteria, and fungi.3

There are no known side effects of aloe vera gel.

Aloe vera gel is cooling and acts in a way that is astringent, moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, pain-killing and styptic, wound healing, immune-stimulating, antiviral, anti-fungal, and antioxidative. The gel pro-motes the healing of scars, disinfects wounds, soothes the pain, prevents infections, and furthers fast regener-ation of the tissue.3

Indication: wounds, skin diseases: eczemas, mycoses, burns, sunburn, radiation-conditioned skin damages, allergies, insect bites, itching, sprain-ing, pulled muscles, inflammations of the tendon, and vein inflammations.3

Grandma’s household remediesStill in the 1950s, housewives kept their “doctor in the pot”, aloe vera, on the window-sill for small emergen-cies like abrasions, insect bites and sunburn.

There are two kinds of suitable aloe vera – a “green” one and a “blue” one. Most of the time, the green variety with bright yellow-green leaves and pale spots is offered for sale. From the first year of growth onwards, it sprouts saplings. It can, however, only after 5 years of growth, be used for medici-nal purposes. The blue aloe vera is not found so frequently on the market. It nevertheless grows faster and can

be used for medicinal purposes after three years of growth, before the first flowering. The therapeutical effect of both varieties is identical. As a house plant, aloe vera loves semi-shade and does not take to di-rect sunlight. If one wishes to keep the plant outside, one can plant it in tubs and keep it inside the house dur-ing the winter, starting from the first danger of frost. In summer, apply am-ple fertilizer and water and keep dry in winter. They can be propagated by offshoots, baby aloes, which form from the rootstock. It is also possible with leaf cutting or seeds.

Fresh leaf core - filleting of the gel

For direct use, one cuts a whole leaf or part of the leaf of the aloe vera indoor plant. At the edge, between leaf shell and the internal gel, a yellow liquid is now visible. It contains aloin with the laxative properties. With a knife, one cuts the leaf shell away from the gel, filleting. The exposed gel is trans-parent, soft, but in itself firm like a fruit jelly. One rinses the yellow aloin liquid off under running water. Then,

Filleting of the Aloe veraPotted Aloe vera

the clear, transparent, slightly slimy, odour neutral gel can be used. If after the application a still unfilleted the leaf remains, this can be wrapped in foil and can be kept for 1-2 weeks in the refrigerator. As soon as the gel is released from it protective leaf shell, it starts to disintegrate. It is therefore only suited for immediate application.

The biological plaster - aloe vera gelWhen a piece of the leaf is cut off, the plant heals this cut on its own by releasing leaf gel which disinfects the wound and seals it hermetically. In case of slight abrasions at hands, knees, etc., aloe acts in the same way on our bodies. For this, one simply ap-plies the fresh gel directly to the skin. When it dries out, the gel plaster gets firm, it does, however, remain flexible and elastic, and healing takes places with less scarring. For insect bites, spots, pocks on the feet, the fresh leaf-gel can be applied as a natural, disinfecting and healing compress. Immediately, a noticeable and pleasant cooling effect occurs. The compress can be renewed in half-hour intervals. Another method is aloe ice gel: put some aloe gel into an ice cube tray, put a toothpick into the centre of the gel and freeze. With the frozen aloe gel you can now coat the painful ar-eas, like for example insect bites. The gel consists of 95% water but permeates the skin four times as fast. Due to the regenerating, elasticity-promoting and moisturizing proper-ties, it is also much appreciated in cosmetics and body care. Here is a beauty recipe:

Refreshing face maskCrush 1 tablespoon of fresh aloe vera leaf gel and beat it up like an egg-white, add 1 teaspoon of liquid honey and two tablespoons of curd cheese and stir all this together. Apply the mixture immediately on face and throat; leave it on for 10 minutes, rinsing off with lukewarm water.

HistoryAloe with its legendary healing power has been known since Mesopotamian culture and is used worldwide. Cleo-patra and Nefertiti used it for their daily beauty care. Due to its bacte-ricide and fungicide effect, Pharaohs were embalmed with the gel after they had died. Alexander the Great had aloe planted on carts to accom-pany his warriors and for having the anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect of the plant available for treat-ing their injuries. The physician and natural scientist, Dioscurides, rec-ommended it for the treatment of wounds, for gastro-intestinal com-plaints, inflammation of the gums, joint complaints, itching, sunburn, acne, and loss of hair. Christopher Columbus had aloe vera planted in flower-pots and carried it along in his ships for treating the wounds of his mercenaries with the gel from the fresh leaf. Red Indian tribes of the 16th century used them as a protec-tion against insect bites. In the med-icine of Asian countries like Tibet, China, Japan, India (Ayurveda), aloe is among the highly appreciated heal-ing plants. Hildegard von Bingen rec-ommended aloe for jaundice, stom-ach diseases, migraine, tooth decay, and gangrenous ulcers.

"There is no other.

My Self lives in all beings."

One day when all people will say this, the golden age will have begun.

If here and there someone says so, his presence will be beneficial, wherever he is going.

We are brothers, and even more than brothers, because brothers have a common father, but we have a common Self.

GeologySugilite is a very mineral-rich potas-sium-sodium-iron-manganese-sili-con compound. lt has a hardness of 6.5 to 7. There is only one site where it is found in South Africa. This has, however, already been exploited and therefore the sugilite is one of the most valuable of precious stones.

Historical traditionSugilite is a stone of the twentieth century. lt was only discovered re-cently and the site at which it was

Sugilite (New Age Stone)

found has since been exhausted. As a stone used in jewellery and a healing stone, sugilite quickly became one of the most valued precious stones. Odd-ly enough, sugilite was found at pre-cisely that site in Africa where prob-ably the cradle of mankind is located. Many people believe that sugilite is a stone that was taken from the depths of earth for mankind by the power of all of the planets, so that these could be protected from the bad UV rays of the cosmos, and against the worst ill-nesses and megalomania.

Curative and therapeutic effects on the bodySugilite is one of the most power-ful healing stones which fights espe-cially against diseases which are life-threatening to people and animals in their advanced stages. Consequently, it can heal, for example, severe disor-ders of the bone marrow and paraly-ses, and is a powerful therapy stone in the case of paraplegia, strokes, car-diac infarction, back and bone bruis-ing, as well as severe brain disorders and concussion. Sugilite strengthens the immune system and the nerve centres, both in the brain and on the solar plexus. It strengthens the en-ergy flow in the circulation and the defences of the body, and regenerates cell renewal. Sugilite strengthens, and also heals, the senses such as sight, speech, sound and touch. It purifies and strengthens the internal organs, especially the gall bladder, the liver, stomach and intestines, and harmo-nises the production of the glands. The stone relieves, and also heals se-vere mental disorders and mental cri-ses (neuroses). Obsessively compul-

sive neuroses, agoraphobia, anxiety about travelling and flying, fear of the dark, cleaning compulsions and car syndrome (car mania) can be re-lieved and healed with the help of su-gilite. It also has very powerful heal-ing effects on cancerous affections and the formation of tumours in the body. It not only heals cancer in ad-vanced stages, but also protects the body against cancerous growths. Di-abetes and drug dependence can be healed with the help of sugilite. Su-gilite is the only stone which can pre-vent AIDS and can also still heal this in the early stages. This experience with AIDS comes from America: "Aids fears sugilite".

Curative and therapeutic effects on the mindSugilite fortifies those individuals who have succumbed to dependency. For example, it supports people who are dependent on drugs, to give them more determination and greater pow-er to withdraw from their dependen-cy. Also those who are trapped by fi-nancial dependency, or are in a state of subjection to other people will find in sugilite a very powerful liberating stone. Sugilite produces greater self-realisation and self-control, and it also prepares those individuals, who have been subject to the most severe reverses of fortune, for the possibility of making a new start. In particular, people who have suffered the most severe illnesses, or accidents and have to start a new life, for example in a wheelchair, or have to take part in lengthy therapy, will receive never-ending new energy by using sugilite. Those people who are considered to

be clinically dead can be, for exam-ple, brought out of a coma by the power of sugilite, and individuals who were completely paralysed are able to move freely again.

Sign of the zodiacPisces, 21st February to 20th March

ChakraSugilite is suitable for laying on all chakras, but especially for the crown and on the forehead. It is one of the most powerful healing stones and protective stones. During medita-tion, it penetrates with powerful, vi-brant oscillations into the mind and produces a displacement of the men-tal tracks. Thereby, horizons and lev-els are opened which were unknown to us before. Mental connections, es-pecially those to our fellowmen, are strengthened by using sugilite. Su-gilite produces in us a life motor and it activates the mind, body and soul. It makes us more resistant to infec-tions and against the penetration of evil forces from our fellowmen. Su-gilite bestows upon the wearer more light, warmth, soulfulness and opti-mism, and it also accompanies people affected by fate to achieve new fulfil-ment in life.

How can I obtain a sugilite and how should I look after it?As has already been mentioned, su-gilite is among the most valuable precious stones. Owing to its purple colour, it is also a very highly val-ued stone for use in making jewel-lery. Sugilite has a price which lies in the higher range and can be obtained as tumbled stones, hand stones, pen-

dants, beads, pyramids, chains, do-nuts and many fantastic forms for necklaces and leather bands. Lentil-form chains or chains of beads, in particular, embody the purest energy of the sugilite. These are true bringers of light and, in health care, can hard-ly be surpassed in relation to cancer, AIDS, paralyses and tumours. Sugilite should be discharged once a month, overnight, in a bowl with hematite tumbled stones. Chains and pendants which are worn directly on the skin should certainly be cleaned once a week, overnight, in a dry bowl with hematite tumbled stones. Sugilite is a stone that is so full of energy, that

a person's life is not long enough to remove all of its energy. Laying this stone in the sun will not benefit the sugilite, because it doesn't store the energy of the sun inside, but only be-comes warmer. lf however, you would like to do your sugilite a favour, then lay it on the clear tips of a group of clear crystals.
