Papermaking Week: Workshops for Young People
with Jonathan Korejko, Artist Papermaker
on 8th to 12th June 2015, supported by Specialist Crafts
I would be happy to run courses with the students/children at your venue and offer staff training to those who plan to make papermaking part of their school/college’s curriculum. The course can include making paper with plants, textiles, words, literature, and/or recycled materials. It is also possible to custom build a programme for you. If you have a theme or idea about how to make papermaking work for you, then let me know . “Paper Talks” is also available as a PowerPoint show with videos, music and revelations galore!
I supply all tools, materials and equipment for the workshops. You provide tables, water, electricity, and additional staff where required.
Space requirements are flexible. I have worked in many places all over the UK, and part of my expertise is in showing you how to make papermaking fit into your space.
Costs are variable, so please ask me for a more detailed plan about how I can deliver an exciting day of papermaking and help you get started with your own programme.
If you already use papermaking in your institution and would like new ideas, or, if you would like to get started in the craft, this is a good opportunity to work with a practitioner who has many years of experience. Please contact me to discuss dates and venues.

“Papermaking at Literature Festivals” during the
Belfast Book Festival at the Crescent Arts Centre, 13th June 2015
A one-day papermaking workshop with a literature theme, using various links between
authors and poets, and their musings about flowers and plants. Shakespeare, Dickens, Wordsworth and Tennyson; Scarborough Fayre, Lavender Blue, The Four Quartets and Adam and Eve, just to name a few !!
We’ll also be using words, music and illustrations in books to decorate the
papers, and even recycling old books and using the fibres in them to make new pulp.
I will be in Belfast to celebrate the history and contemporary uses of paper, and to remind people that, without papermakers, there would be
no great literature!

Training Teachers with Specialist Crafts at W5 in Belfast, May 2014
What the teachers say about my Specialist Crafts sessions in various UK venues:
I enjoyed the papermaking workshop very much as I found it to be well managed giving me tips on how this activity could be implemented in the classroom. The tutor was passionate about his work and very helpful when demonstrating and assisting us in the activity.
The Paper making was brilliant....very well organised and taught. The time was well spent doing practical learning and I learnt a lot in this workshop.
Very good. It was a brilliant workshop with Jonathan Korejko, and very well organized. Very good demonstrations, correcting mistakes etc. Jonathan shared his experience and good tips with us. I enjoyed every minute of this workshop.
Jonathan was very enthusiastic and passionate about the work he does and that was passed on to us. The workshop showed you can produce some really interesting work quite quickly without too much equipment and I think this will appeal to our students.
Can't wait to purchase paper making equipment and get started. Loved the variety of ideas shown to us to make the paper so individual...

Training Staff at the Ulster Folk Museum in Holywood, Sept. 2014
Mentoring William McBride at Pogue’s Entry, Antrim 2014/15
One of the museum’s staff trainees was so enamoured
with the process, that he decided to start up his own
papermaking unit ( with help from Antrim Borough
Council), in an art studio at Pogue’s Entry, Antrim. I have
been helping Bill with designs and instructions: Bill has
built all of his own equipment and from time to time asks
me for tips and advice, which I willing give ! Bill has already run his first
workshops, and in his own words
“I am totally hooked !”
given a full day of instruction to help them learn new skills and
gain confidence in papermaking. Their training will enable them to
deliver better workshops to the youngster who visit the education
facilities at the museum. The day began with a lecture by Dr. Alison
Muir, a professional paper conservator who taught everyone about
the history of papermaking in Northern Ireland.
