Instructions

Supplies

Construction paper, glue and scissors.

Prep pieces

Cut out 5 green strips of paper, 1-inch in width. Cut out 20 green leaves of varying sizes. Cut out 5 larger circles of any color paper.

Cut out 30-40 smaller circles and tear drop pieces, using a variety of shapes and sizes. Separate pieces into small piles and place on

a washable work surface along with 5 pieces of construction paper, scissors and glue.

Invitation to Create

“Invitation to Create” is one of my favorite craft models for preschool and kindergarten aged children because it is easy to set up

provides a great deal of freedom for creativity. Here is how it works – set out the supplies, call your children over to the workstation

and invite them to create flowers. Then watch as they put pieces together in surprisingly beautiful combinations. You do not need

to create an example beforehand, and in fact it is better if you don’t. Let children figure out how to put the pieces together without

set way it has to be done. For children on the younger end of this age group you can break the craft into 2 separate stages. First ask

them to create the stems and leaves, then ask them to add the petals (see pictures on next page).

Part 1: Stem & leaves

Allow children to pick any color for the background and then let them assemble the stem and leaves.

Part 2: Petals

Allow children to place the larger circle at the top of the stem to create a center and then add petals using any combination they

choose. This is part where they can be the most creative picking and choosing what shape, color and combination of petals to use.

There is no right or wrong way to do this craft!

Create & Display

Allow children to make as many flowers as they want. Let flowers dry and then hang them around your house or in your front

window to help spread a little color and joy.
