as well as reflected in the copy through tone, voice and audience, and organization.

Be Friendly and ConversationalUse a style that is warm and inviting, but not intrusive or overly familiar. The use of contractions in communications supports a conversational tone because it is the way people speak.
Informal FormalitiesWhile More Meaningful Connections allows the use of an informal voice and directly engages the end user, this informality should not deteriorate into slang or colloquial references. Avoid analogies or cliché terms that are confusing to international audiences and can be viewed as trite or untrustworthy. To convey relaxed trustworthiness, you can refer to Panduit as “us” and “we.”
Professional Over PretentiousAlthough we want to communicate confidence and professionalism, it is important to not exaggerate our capabilities or status with our customers. To effectively communicate confidence in a professional way, avoid long lists of features or sales-pitch terms. Always focus on the benefits that address the customer’s identified business needs. Avoid sales gimmicks like, “easy as 1,2,3” or exaggerated descriptions such as “the best in the world.”
Write from Your Audience’s Point of ViewWe like to talk about who we are and what we do because we’re proud of it. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Just try to keep in mind that focusing too much on the Panduit point of view changes the tone of your communications and can alienate your audience.
Write in Second Person: YouAddress your audience directly, using “you” and “your,” rather than “our customers” to emphasize friendliness and positively reinforce the personal relationship between our company and our audience.
Be ConciseGet to the point quickly. Communicate just enough to convey the concept and encourage the target audience to find out more. Choose simple words to create short sentences, but don’t sacrifice conversational tone and warmth.
Use a Gender-Neutral, Global VoiceOur customers are from many cultures. When writing for a global audience, write in a style and tone that can be related to by both men and women around the world.
Don’t Use a Hard SellInvite the audience; don’t try to manipulate them or play upon their emotions.
Communicate ConsistentlyA consistent tone builds trust by helping your audience feel good about our company. This helps develop a solid relationship with them. Although internally we may feel that a message has been overused, that is usually the point when your target audience is just beginning to hear it.
Crafting a Call to ActionEvery communication should have a clear call to action. The end user needs to know why and how to engage Panduit. Calls to action can be as simple as “learn more” or “contact us.”
Punctuation MattersSince our brand has an informal voice, it is tempting to over-punctuate or interject unrelated thoughts or ideas into our messages. While the tone should be friendly, it also needs to be clear and accessible. Improper use of punctuation directly affects the readability and ultimately, the end-user experience.
Refer to the Panduit Grammar and Consistency Guideline for detailed information on style and grammar usage.
communicating our brand
Brand Voice and ToneThe Panduit brand voice is the focused, consistent expression of our identity and personality through our written and verbal communications. In other words, it is how we express our messaging.
Our brand voice helps us engage and motivate our customers by creating a living, breathing personification of our company in the minds of our target audiences - a company they can trust and relate to, one they feel respects and understands their needs.
Tone is the style or manner of expressing content. It’s the warmth and color you add to your words to give them meaning and convey a mood. And it’s the feeling behind the words. Moving a comma can change the meaning of a sentence. So can changing the tone.
The following guidelines will help ensure that your target audience will hear the voice of the Panduit personality when they read our communications.

communicating our brand
Messaging Platform The connected world is one that is constantly innovating – exponentially expanding our use of power and data over cables and airwaves, across countries and continents, throughout plant floors and job sites, in emergency rooms and classrooms.
The world of connections means everything to the world we live in – to increase the safety and sustainability of our cities, make travel more seamless, put new technology into users’ hands faster, help institutions protect and save lives, and make our increasingly-connected world possible.
The need for connectivity drives us to innovate beyond the ordinary, continually redefining industry standards, and delivering today’s most powerful, scalable, and profitable physical infrastructure solutions.
With a global manufacturing and logistics footprint and world-class partner ecosystem, we help our customers rethink what their infrastructure can do – to turn connectivity into a competitive advantage. Together we create more meaningful connections that enable more successful business outcomes.
With any global, modern, and strategic brand there are instances when it needs to refresh, refocus, and re-engage with both internal and external audiences.
More Meaningful Connections is supported through consistent, thoughtful messaging that produces a positive user experience.
Use of More Meaningful ConnectionsBrand elements for our theme should follow the same rules as other Panduit-branded elements, including the proper use of the logo, font, and brand colors.
Consistent use of our brand elements sends a strong, unified message to our customers as it reinforces who we are and what we offer. More Meaningful Connections is our current theme and is an extension of the Panduit brand. As such, it should not compete with our tagline, Infrastructure for a Connected World, and does not replace it. For clarification, our tagline is a catchphrase that explains what we do. Our theme says why we do what we do.
General Guidelines• Do not use in conjunction with the Panduit logo
• Do not use the Panduit logo with the tagline if using More Meaningful Connections in the headline
• Do not abbreviate. Always use More Meaningful Connections, not MMC
• Can be used as a headline or title of a publication
• Should appear in all communications
• Use a light touch in body copy to introduce Panduit’s value proposition

We Make Connections Through Our Stories.Storytelling is an essential communications tool to bring people together and create understanding. The More Meaningful Connections platform relies heavily on storytelling to convey our capabilities, our expertise, and our value proposition. Through customer successes, powerful validating proof points, relevant application solutions, and other compelling narratives, we build the meaningful connections needed to shape our own business.

Every second of connection has value. When a plant network goes down, each minute can cost thousands of dollars in lost revenue. That’s why noosa yoghurt chose Panduit to design and install a new physical infrastructure – rugged and ready to scale as the company grows. Our solution – which reduced implementation time by 25% -- also provided predictive analysis that allows noosa yoghurt to flag potential interruptions and resolve them before they can take its network down.
Our unmatched focus on innovating. Our unmatched focus on innovating beyond the capabilities and demands of current standards made us a perfect fit for Purdue University. Students use as many as nine different devices to power their always-on lifestyle, and Purdue’s network simply could not keep up – putting its ability to recruit and retain the best and brightest at risk. Panduit’s solution cut costs, boosted connectivity by optimizing existing physical infrastructure, and delivered uninterrupted wireless connectivity to every device on campus. Purdue’s commitment to the student experience has resulted in their highest enrollment rate to date.
Enhancing connectivity around the world. Our previous success enhancing the connectivity and performance for the Vatican’s main data center earned Panduit the trust to digitize and protect more than 80,000 priceless historical manuscripts housed in the Vatican Apostolic Library. Adapting to the constraints of a structure built in the 15th century, Panduit developed a solution with security, storage, and power management. Thanks to our network, people around the world can have online access to these invaluable treasures.

When to Use OverlineUse the Panduit overline purposefully and sparingly. Overuse will dilute the intent. Use for main headings and titles, but at most once per (print) page. Web use should be for the main section or page titles only.
How to MeasureBe careful to keep the look consistent and to not detract from the headline.Overline = 15% of the total document width

Three Key Trends Driving Financial Services IT Transformation
The ability to exploit data also works in the service provider’s favor. For example, relationship managers could analyze their client’s businesses to work out their growth potential, profitability or loyalty, and price products and services accordingly. A recent report5 from Oracle makes the case for this.
As well as being able to offer personalized and information-rich services, customer-centricity also means offering clients integrated, end-to-end solutions and operational excellence.
These all rely on having an automated, responsive and robust IT infrastructure. One that will enable Financial Services firms to pursue excellence in their user experience; enabling clients to access data and transact immediately, whenever and wherever; while eliminating costly service delays and downtime.

Combinations and Positive/Negative SpaceOur brand is based on simple geometry and minimalist design principles. When selecting colors, the predominant color(s) from the palette should remain neutral. Choose one or two colors from the brand color palette to create a modern look that carries throughout the design.
How to UseUse color to keep the look and feel modern and progressive. This creates positive and negative space where color serves as the “white space” or as a graphic element.
Colors should also appear in the selected photography either as a highlighted color on a neutral base or a predominant color that is pulled out.

Transparency can give a softer feel to a design without compromising the geometric structure and technical content. Transparency can also emphasize a flow or motion.
GuidelinesIt is acceptable to use color transparencies for shapes as design elements. When using a transparency as a border element or extension of the photo, it should be white, not a color. Use transparencies at 50% or higher.
Transparency should be obvious, so take into account the strength of the photography and the accompanying image and color.
Do not use transparency over general product photography.
Use caution with gradient transparency over an image. Gradient transparency must not contain text and the focus should be on the product or service through strong imagery with transparency, color, and pattern as supporting elements.

Patterned Line Graphics
Patterns offer the audience a sense of motion, movement, and connectivity to our products and services. Visually, a pattern should connect and bind the imagery and themes throughout the design.
Colored patterns keep designs fresh and modern. Use colored patterns sparingly, purposefully, and only in brand colors to create monochromatic
compositions. Patterns should not detract from overall layout or message.
In static design, use graphic elements purposefully as an overlay or in repetition to visually build interest and structure to the overall design.
Do not overuse patterns that exist within the imagery. Pull basic elements from a pattern and use to create a cohesive feel.
In videos or presentations, use geometric patterns to create transitions between themes or slides. Use line or shape animations to visually show connection throughout the production.

Illustration and Informational GraphicsConnection does not happen overnight, but begins with communicating clearly with our global and diverse customer base.
At times, informational graphics can tell an effective data-supported story.
GuidelinesOutline or storyboard the process or information flow before developing a design or theme.
Illustration style is flat, but some use of gradient and shadowing is acceptable.
A combination of photography and illustration can complete the story or tie to a Panduit product or service.
Avoid using highly stylized illustration or “sketch” illustration. Keep lines clean and shapes clear.
Avoid the inclusion of people, unless a process involves the representation of people. If using people, maintain the illustration style throughout the development. For example, if using isometric people, continue in the same style.
Colors can be bold, but should be limited to maintain a clean and minimalist feel.
Color should be purposeful and consistent. Color coding can help differentiate information so use color consistently to keep communication clear.
Art should be vector-based to offer maximum scalability and diversity of reproduction for animation, print, and other uses.

Application imageryShows the big picture of how our products come together to allow our customers to maintain a high standard of work which they can identify and admire. Photography can have bold color, but be monochromatic in feel.
Photography and videography should be staged to be devoid of extraneous items such as trash, non-essential equipment, people, exit, or other signage.
Artistic productArtistic product photography provides a different perspective and representation of our products and services. These images take an artful look at our products before they are implemented and put to use in an overall application.
At times a more artistic representation of the actual product can help promote the message either through shape, lines, pattern, or color.
photography and videographyIntroducing perspective to imagery adds interest and helps reinforce that Panduit products and services are the connections
that keep everyday life running. While we are often unseen to our end users, the imagery should reflect that we are partners that help keep their businesses running smoothly and efficiently.
PerspectiveAerial View -Top-down perspective shows life and work happening below.
Service/Product POV-Looking at life from the point of view of an object or service shows a strength and confidence we have in what we do and provide.
Changing the Angle-By slightly changing the angle, we can create a sense of motion and movement. Images can have blurred sections, but should offer a sense of direction.
Behind the Scenes-This perspective shows us as trusted and valued partners. We observe, learn, and are available to our customers whenever they need us.

Case Study: Public Utilities Modernizing a Network Infrastructure to Achieve Better Visibility and Improved Device Management
Panduit’s ecosystem helps a utility company achieve better network visibility and security for its material handling buildings
CHALLENGESThe massive coal generation power plant at a major utilities company spans across approximately 20 acres. Located along a large river, the plant receives the coal and limestone by boat and transports it to storage and then to generation on a complex material handling conveyor system.
The customer’s material handling conveyor system covers over 5000 feet between the ship unloader and the generation station through over five transfer buildings and multiple storage and material handling buildings. Distributed I/O along this network of conveyors offload, store, and deliver this fuel to the burning units where power is produced.
The material handling process also brings the ash generated by the burning process to four massive silos where the ash is removed and transported by rail for recycling.
Relying on a 20-year old Allen-Bradley PLC-5 network, the legacy system was technologically outdated. The ControlNet™ network and coaxial cable limited the customer’s ability to scale, manage the network and integrate new automation equipment. As a result, the customer determined that its existing network infrastructure proved inadequate for PLC migrations and other upgrades planned for the following fiscal year. It decided to modernize its network infrastructure in parallel with the PLC system to provide a purpose-built, robust, scalable solution.
CUSTOMER PROFILEA major utility provider known for offering reliable services at the best value to its customers while ensuring protection for the area’s precious natural resources.
