From the Desk of Father Ed:
Dear Parishioners,
This weekend we celebrate Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord; this marks the beginning of Holy Week. At each Mass this weekend we will be reading the Passion narrative from St. Luke’s Gospel. After the palm branches are blessed the Priest will proclaim the Gospel at the entrance area of the church. The Gospel that is read recalls Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. As Jesus entered into Jerusalem we too begin our ascent into Holy Week. It is in Jerusalem where Jesus accomplished his Paschal Mystery, that is, his Passion, Death, and Resurrection.
In the Gospel proclaimed at the beginning of Mass Jesus is riding on a colt and making his way up to Jerusalem, “the whole multitude of his disciples began to praise God aloud with joy for all the mighty deeds they had seen. They proclaimed: ‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.’” There is great excitement and joy with Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem but it quickly diminishes as we read of his Passion and death. At the beginning of the Mass the crowds were praising him and blessing God but in the Passion narrative they are crying out, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” We are reminded of the anguish and suffering that our Lord endured for us. Jesus was betrayed by Judas, one of the twelve that he chose, denied three times by Peter, one of his closest friends, and abandoned by most of the Apostles, his friends with the exception of St. John, the beloved disciple.
As we gather today and hear the Passion narrative proclaimed to us we recognize the greatest love story ever told. That God would send his only Son to become one of us, a slave, and to lay down his life for us and pay the ransom of Adam’s sin. There is no greater love than this to lay down one’s life for his friends. Jesus came to lay down his life for us and he proves that he loves us beyond all human understanding.
This week, the holiest week of the Church, we enter more deeply into the mystery of God’s love for us. Holy Thursday is the evening Mass where we recall how Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and told them to do likewise. It is also the Passover Meal where Jesus instituted the Priesthood and left us the memorial of his Body and Blood in the Eucharist so that He could always be with us. Good Friday we remember and celebrate Jesus’ Passion and Death as we hear the passion narrative from St. John’s Gospel. Holy Saturday is the Easter Vigil which is referred to as the mother of all liturgies. We begin our celebration in darkness reminding us of our condition before Christ entered the world. The large Paschal Candle is lit outside and brought into the Church where all the individual candles are lit and give light to the whole building as Christ gives his light to the world. As we enter into Holy Week let us also cry out with praise and thanksgiving to our Lord because he loves us and came to save us from sin and death.
Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us,
Father Ed, Administrator
Parish Life:
Our food pantry is progressing better than we expected and helping numerous families in the neighborhood. I want to personally thank the many people who continue to donate food to help those in need. One of the Corporal works of Mercy is to feed the hungry; it is inspiring to see how our parish is helping those in our neighborhood who are struggling. May God continue to bless you.
Please consider joining us to celebrate the three most Holy Days of the Church: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday (the Easter Vigil). Come and experience the graces that the Lord wants you to have and enter more deeply into the mystery of God’s love for you. In addition there will be Morning Prayer at 8:00 Am on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. On Saturday morning at 11:00 Am there will be a special blessing of food in the church. This Monday, March 21, there will be no Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction or Confessions because of the Chrism Mass at St. Philip the Apostle in Clifton. Please come and join us at the Chrism Mass if you can.

Partners In Faith
We are happy to report that our parish recently
received a check from our Diocese for $9,067.00. This
represents the third rebate returned to us as part of
the Partners in Faith campaign.
These parish funds are only available because of those
parishioners who continue to make their ongoing
pledges on their Partners in Faith contribution. We are
so grateful to all who are consistent in paying their
pledge, and ask any who may have fallen behind to re-
commit to their pledge if possible. It is important to
the work of the Diocese and to our parish. May God
bless you for your continued generosity!
