MESSAGE FROM CHAIRMAN DINERSTEINGRADING ON A CURVE

Wow!!! Governor Scott, the Florida Legislature and theLegislative Leadership, SenatePresident Mike Haridopolos, andSpeaker Dean Cannon arerunning enough Victory laps tomake our heads spin. And wellthey should. In a period of two

short months they balanced abudget AND cut taxes, endedTenure as we know it, got publicemployees to contributesomething (3%) to their ownpensions, did a major revamp ofMedicaid (thank you, Joe

Negron) and passed a comprehensive anti ACORN Electionsbill, fighting off all the usual suspects, including the League ofWomen Democrats. I have lived in Florida for twenty yearsand there has never been a session like it. Clearly an A+accomplishment.

HOWEVER (you knew that was coming), when youre sittingwith a Tea Party Governor, an all Republican cabinet, twothirds majorities in both houses (Lizbeth put us over the top)and President Obamas radical Left cronies in Washington, thepent up demand for a transformational Florida year is realand understandable. Heres what we didnt get: E-Verify, forstarters. Ten Republican State Senators went all in for theIllegals. Now that the legislators in Georgia and SouthCarolina read the Constitution that our legislators ignored,Florida is the de facto Southern Sanctuary State. Second, those lawyer ads you see every night on your television, trolling for victims to help kill our businesses; theyre

staying. We put no cap on Pain and Suffering. Florida remainsthe Jackpot Justice state. And third, when you wonder wherePresident Obama and DNC Chairman Debbie Wasserman-Soros will get their million dollar 2012 campaign fund, look nofurther than Tallahassee, where we chose not to end the publicunion dues check-off.

What went wrong? Silly us. We figured if we did our job andsent a multitude of Conservative Republicans to Tallahasseewe could sit back and watch a Fantasy Session. We deliveredthe votes but they delivered the money. Republican

businessmen combined with Democratic lawyers and unichiefs to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Next years session is our last chance. What we dont get thewe will not get in our lifetimes. After 2012, Redistricting anthat union check-off money will thin our majorities and keevictories on the margins.

So its an A+ session when looked at in a vacuum but itsomething else when looked at through the prism of omajorities.

Congressman Rooney visiting the troops in Afghanistan

    CONGRESSMANTOM ROONEY

    Report from Floridas 16thCongressional District

Last month, I joined aCongressional delegation on afact-finding mission to Iraq,Pakistan and Afghanistan. As amember of the House ArmedServices and IntelligenceCommittees, visiting these threecountries at such an important

juncture in our military operations in the region was criticalto my understanding of the progress we have made and thechallenges we still face. I spoke with our troops about thesituation on the ground, discussed strategy with General

David Petraeus and senior military officials, and talked toleaders of each country about how we can work togethermoving forward. I met with many of our brave troops, including several from Florida, and reminded them that thepeople of Florida and the United States are behind them, and that they are in our thoughts and prayers.

Our first stop was Iraq, where we met with Prime MinisterNouri al-Maliki and senior military officials to discuss theprogress Iraq has made towarddemocracy and the next steps forour governments. Prime Minister

Maliki hopes that Iraq will serveas an example to the world thatdemocracy can work in theMiddle East. We discussed howthe U.S. and Iraq can worktogether through more traditionaldiplomatic means after our troopwithdrawal, which is scheduledfor December. He was veryinterested in my position on theAgriculture Committee, and wediscussed how we can move froma military dialogue toward efforts toadvance agriculture in Iraq.

The brave American men and women in uniform who haveserved in Iraq deserve tremendous credit for providing thesecurity the Iraqi people and government need to transitionto a functioning democracy. Thanks to their dedication andsacrifice, and the strategy developed by General Petraeus, democracy is taking root in Iraq.

In Pakistan, we met with Prime Minister Yousaf Gillani andmilitary leaders just days before American forces killed

Osama bin Laden in a nearby suburb. I know that many you are very concerned about our relationship with Pakistmoving forward. Pakistan is incredibly volatile, but thare as critical of an ally in the war on terror as any countryWe rely on them for intelligence and logistical support. would be very difficult to fight in Afghanistan if wcouldnt work with Pakistan. That said, if we find out ththe Pakistani government knew where bin Laden was hidinor, even worse, helped him, then certainly well need to takaction, starting with cutting off aid.

Our final stop was Afghanistan, where we met wiPresident Hamid Karzai, General Petraeus and other senimilitary leaders, and troops from Florida and the othMembers home states. The challenge in the final phase our mission in Afghanistan is to capitalize on the gains whave made over the last several months. The groundwofor transition to the Afghan National Security Force is moapparent than my last visit two years ago. The strategy General Petraeus and the courageous efforts of our troophave given the U.S. the real opportunity to prevent futuattacks from there again, while giving the people Afghanistan a chance to live in peace.

Meanwhile, in Washington, I am continuing to fight out-ocontrol spending and get our country on a fiscal

responsible and sustainabpath. I voted in favor of tbudget blueprint written bHouse Budget Committ

Chairman Paul Ryan (W01), which would cspending by approximate$6 trillion dollars and makcritical reforms to Medicato preserve the program ffuture generations. TMedicare reforms wounot affect current retirees anyone age 55 or older.

This budget sends a signto the American people that were ready to tighten our beland cut spending just like families across the country. Whave record deficits because Washington spends too mucnot because Americans need to pay more taxes. Thbudget says were going to stop spending money we donhave. The Ryan budget will reduce the debt by trillions dollars, which will help grow the economy, create jobs, anensure that we leave our children a country as strong as thone we inherited.

    Creepy Change

    By Margi Helschien

Vice Chair, Republican Party of Palm Beach County

Winner of the Jean Pipes Award, 2011

Obama always told us that we needed change. He never told

us change from what? Change from ourselves? Change from theworld we grew up in and believe in? What kind of creepy changeis he talking about?

I have been going to Tariosfor 11 years to get my hairdone. He did a great job onmy hair, pleasant to speakwith, a solid Republican. When I went in the otherday, he bent over and said,do you know I am closingdown? You are whaaat?

I asked in astonishment. Hetold me that he cannotafford to stay openanymore. Women whoregularly were coming inevery 4 weeks are now stretching it to 7-8 weeks. They still gettheir hair done but cannot afford to do it as regularly. My rent hasdoubled in the past eleven years. The taxes are killing me for asmall business that I have. I pay exorbitant unemployment taxes, and Insurance, Workmans Comp, and now with the gas prices, Ihave part time employees not even bothering to come in, as it ischeaper for some of them to take unemployment. Customers whowould run in just to get a quick manicure cannot afford the gas to

waste on just a quick splurge. The economy is killing me.What are you going to do? I asked. Tario shook his head and

said I do hair, I do a great job and I will work for someone aget paid and get more money to work less.

As I told my friend Anna the story later that afternoon, smentioned that her car repair and towing business that she and h

husband have owned for thirteen years is going out of busineUnemployment has doubled, and because of gas prices, peopare not driving their cars as much and so there is not a need ftowing and car repairs like there was. There are a lot of backyaplaces that do not have any overhead costs. She explained.

This change that Obama wanted has affected every businefrom the medical field to the small time gardener. When RonaReagan wanted to help bring some change to America, he movinto action with The Economic Recovery Tax Act that he pushthrough Congress in 1981, and provided a reduction by 25% federal levies on American taxpayers. But, Obama has told that gas is getting higher. His change has resulted in peop

driving less, cutting back on expenses, canceling vacation plantaking mass transit and walking more. Wait a minute, did I smass transit? Isnt that what Obama wants? Didnt he mentisomething about mass transit /trains in his last speech? Or did read the 1957 novel by Ayn Rand called Atlas Shrugged. Italso now a movie and for those who are not familiar, set in 201The April 25, 2011 issue of Time magazine reported that tmovie is a perfect match for this fearful moment we are living There has been another oil spill, unemployment is soaring, apoliticians pass bills to throttle private enterprise (one imposedtax on Colorado for being too successful). Gas lines snake arouthe block, and high prices have madetrainsthe predominant forof transportation.

Did you just get shivers running up your spine? Me, too. This is creepy change.

In my academic experience at Palm Beach StaCollege I have witnessed an overwhelming liberal bion the part of the faculty and administration. Blata

falsities and misleading generalizations are perpetuated in political science courses when young students are trying to fintheir place in the political spectrum. An example of this occurred when my instructor explained to my classmates thconservatives are simply people who are resistant to change and want prayer

in schools while liberals are open to change and work to provide for theunfortunate and keep a separation between church and state. This deceptivemisrepresentation of conservatism and unwarranted elevation of modernliberalism is rampant and very seldom countered in the classroom setting. Ihave even experienced this in my seemingly innocuous supervision andmanagement courses. One would think that certain subjects are simply blackand white, but it is remarkable how the toxic collectivist, anti-capitalistideology inevitably seeps into every crevice of higher learning.

In light of the abhorrent liberal bias on my campus, coupled with myperception of a student body cloaked in a detrimental apathy, I felt that it wasmy duty as a young conservative to correct the lies being propagated by the

    Where Theres Smoke, Theres Rodriguez

May 7, 2011, Atlantis The Tea Party eruption lit the spafor Americans to hold their Congressional representativefeet to the fire. If strict Constitutionalist FranciscRodriguez has his way, more than their tootsies will be pto the flame if they misinterpret the guiding light of ounations Bulwark Document.

Speaking at the Central PBC Republican Club Mmeeting, Rodriguez pointed out various sections of thConstitution, which have been incessantly abused. Finstance, Article I Section 8, which delineates Congresspowers, to include provide for the common Defence ageneral Welfarecoin Monies, regulate the Value thereo

and fix the Standard of Weights and Measure.

Nowhere is a Central Bank discussed, whose establishmehas led to astronomically increased spending, devaluation the dollar, and the total domination of monetary policaffecting every family in the country. Andy Jacksoabolished the National Bank!

Or Congresss power to declare War. The last time thhappened was World War II! Astonishingly, we now hav704 overseas military bases and countless nation-buildinenterprises. We have a National Offense instead of National Defense. The Founding Fathers sought to carefullimit governmental power, not create the first GlobPoliceman.

State Representative George MoraitisLegislative Update, District 91

Our state faces significanteconomic challenges and we had

to make difficult decisions thissession, just like many families.I believe that the best responseto these challenges is anapproach that aims towards more jobs, less government, lessgovernment regulation, lessgovernment spending, and lowertaxes. With this perspective inmind, I would like to review foryou three pieces of significantlegislation, which the FloridaHouse of Representatives has passed within the past fewweeks.

Pension Reform: As a consequence of Floridas $3.9billion budget deficit, it is necessary to review all stateprograms for potential cost savings to taxpayers. It isparticularly appropriate to review Floridas pensionprogram, since Florida is one of the only states wheretaxpayers are the sole contributors to state employeepensions. Adjustments to state employee benefits arenecessary to avoid potential layoffs, pay cuts, or otherdetrimental actions that would adversely affect publicemployees and public services. Accordingly, the House ofRepresentatives has passed legislation to implement thefollowing changes in Floridas employees retirement:

Employees will make a 3% contribution to the FloridaRetirement System.

The Deferred Retirement Option Program will close tonew participants effective July 1, 2011. Under thisprogram, employees old enough to retire couldcontinue employment for up to five years. Theemployee would continue to receive a regular salarywhile the employees retirement benefits wouldaccumulate in a retirement trust fund.

Retirement age will increased to 60 years and years ofservice to 30 years for members of the FloridaRetirement Systems Special Risk or Special RiskAdministrative Support Class who enroll on or afterJuly 1, 2011. For all other members, the retirementage is increased to 65 years of age and the years ofservice are increased to 33 years.

These changes, if enacted into law, are estimated to result intotal statewide savings annually of $1.2 billion.

Medicaid Reform: Funding for Medicaid is expected consume almost 30% of our total state budget this yeaGiven the programs cost projections; Floridas Medicasystem in its current form is unsustainable. It is ndelivering value for either consumers or taxpayers. To brinmore accountability to the system, to crack down on frauand to improve patient care, the House of Representativhas passed a bill which provides for a five yeimplementation plan to move from a complex fee-foservice model to a statewide, integrated managed caprogram.

Managed care plans will be selected through a competitivbid process in seven geographic regions to ensure boquality care for the patient and affordability to the state.

Plans will be held accountable through contact-baseperformance standards with consequences for failure meet those standards.

A managed care program will be created that emphasizhome- and community-based care for the long term care our seniors and persons with developmental disabilities. These changes are designed to make Floridas Medicaprogram more patient-centered, prevention-focuseoutcome-oriented, and cost-effective.

Student Success and Teacher Quality: Florida already ha reputation as a leader in education reform. However, ensure that our states students receive a world claeducation that prepares them for a career in a competitivmarketplace, we must continue to make progress. The keto real progress is retaining our states best and brighteeducators by rewarding high-performing teachers. ThHouse has passed legislation that:

Removes barriers that impair the ability of schodistricts to reward those teachers who have thgreatest impact on student performance.

Implements the Federal Race to the Top grant reformby aligning educator performance evaluations ancompensation systems with agreements alreadcontained in the Race to the Top grant program.

Eliminates teacher tenure over time, with appropriaconsideration provided to educators currently oprofessional service contracts.

Revises the compensation system and bases it more operformance rather than seniority.

I want you to know that I supported each of these bills improve our quality of life, to bring financial stability to ostate, and to provide a quality education for our studentsthank you for the opportunity to serve as your StaRepresentative. A Nightmare All Too Real"By Alan Bergstein

I really am in a state of shock.I must be dreaming.... watchingpeople come into my home, removing the furniture, piece bypiece: the TV, sofa and then goingthrough the closets, walking outwith my entire wardrobe, thendemanding my financial file andnoting down my account numbers. But, it's not a dream. It's ourgovernment in action as weall idiotically sit still and watch.

Our medical coverage, which we have freely selected for

our families will be redistributed to the rest of the nation asour government sees fit. Our savings will be redistributed tothose who never concerned themselves with frugality, thriftor financial sanity. Our retirement goals for which we haveplanned all our lives will be shattered by our government's"legal" intrusion into our private lives.

Our educational system has been mangled to the pointwhere our country's heritage is denigrated and third worldcountries are heralded as superior to ours. Our legal systemis being diluted by International Law and our jurists consider our Constitution as "outdated" and

inappropriate for today's more modern world. We cater toterrorist regimes and treat our long time democratic, freedom loving allies as pariahs. We ignore the terroristswho are stripping away our Judeo-Christian heritage andwelcome them into dialogue in order to appease theirdemands for drastic change.

Our President, with his sardonic grin and athletic prances tothe podium on a daily basis, mesmerizes the electorate withfalsehoods, promises and wishful thinking that is quicklyparalyzing our great nation. We are told that we must notrely on foreign sources of energy, yet we paralyze ourselves

by shutting and illegally closing down our own oil fieldsand coalmines. We are told that our individual liberties areparamount, yet the government supports the restriction onfree speech in our universities. Leftist hecklers are sent topublic meetings to disrupt speakers whose opinions theyrefute. Our once free, proud and impartial media has beenencapsulated into a radical, liberal, hate filled powerhousethat can literally control electoral outcomes with ease.

Our President lives in a sea of denial and opaqueness. Hislife history is mostly fiction and what we do know of it is

frightening. His past and current relationships with radicaof all stripes, who despise our country and what it stands fis open for all whose eyes and minds are not closed. We amarching steadily to the elections of 2012 with very littplanning to unseat this very deadly leader. I fear for thconsequences of his re-election. We must unite, organizplan and just get on the track to depose this smilintraitorous One World Candidate. To wait any longer is court disaster.

    Cut Wasteful Spending,Save Jobs!

By Lowell E Levine, Broker Associate,

    Coastal Sotheby's International Realty

The Palm Beach County School District is short 35 millio

dollars in the Operations Budget and will be forced to laoff police personnel, bus drivers, and custodian workersasked why not take the 35 million from the Capital Budgewhich is 800 million dollars, and save the jobs. The answI get is that under Florida Statutes, the School Districannot take any money from the Capital side of the equatioto pay for these types of employees. I followed up wianother question-ask our elected officials in Tallahassee get permission to transfer the 35 million. After all, theconomy is a tough one and if we can save 400 jobs, would be a blessing. We all know that part of the 80million dollars of taxpayers money in the Capital Budg

    goes directly to wasted spending.

progressives; and to expose modern liberalism for the shamthat it is. I hoped to achieve this by bringing a youthconservative movement to my campus called YoungAmericans for Freedom. This impressive organization, whichbegan in the 1960s at the estate of William F. Buckley, Jr.,

would serve as my platform to advance the truth on mycampus. YAF has a rich history of fighting big government, supporting our troops, and educating Americas youth. CynthiaToney of The Bold Pursuit succinctly communicates thishistory in her 2011 profile of Young Americans for Freedom:[YAF] spearheaded the 1964 Presidential campaign of BarryGoldwater, each one helping to define the other. In the 1970s,the organization started a number of projects to supportVietnam veterans and their causes and joined forces with theAmerican Conservative Union to form the ConservativePolitical Action Conference (CPAC). During the Reagan years,Young Americans for Freedom mobilized to support thePresidents agenda and defend the administrationsconservative officials and appointees who were targeted by theLeft. Never a stranger to international issues, the organizationbattled Communism and promoted the cause of freedom oncollege campuses.

In order to officially form a Young Americans for Freedomchapter at PBSC, at least five members were needed. In aneffort to recruit these members, I attempted to set up a smallYAF table on campus but the administration denied me myright to free speech. As soon as the liberal faculty noticed thegroups conservative message, we got shut down in the nameof safety. Not only did they prevent us from tabling to

recruit the required members, but they also stated that theywould not allow us to simply hand out fliers to our peers oncampus. Fox News, The Gateway Pundit, World Net Daily,The Heritage Foundation, and other prominent conservativenews outlets picked up the story in an effort to expose thisegregious violation. With the intention of protecting the rightsof every student on campus, I filed suit against Palm BeachState College with the help of the Alliance Defense Fund andam now in the process of litigation.

In the wake of all the press related to the incident at PBSC, Iwas contacted by like-minded students and was finally able tomeet the five member requirement. Shortly thereafter, I found

a conservative faculty advisor (not an easy task on a statecollege campus) thanks to my involvement in the RepublicanExecutive Committee. Professor Mary Ellen Vitrano, a fellowcommittee woman on the REC, agreed to help form YAF atPBSC and has been courageously fighting with us ever since. The PBSC YAF Vice Chairman, U.S. Air Force veteran MarioMartinez, who is studying political science and history at PalmBeach State, has joined me in advancing YAFs message onour campus. We have arranged talks on the Federal Reserveand Second Amendment rights. There are also plans to inviteRepresentative Allen West who is on the Florida YAFAdvisory Board to come speak at the college, which should be

a fruitful experience for the students, faculty, and the enticommunity of Palm Beach County.

They also did not believe in direct capitation, he revealed, i.e.direct taxes. The 16th Amendment changed that but to Rodriguez,it was a grave mistake, worthy of a serious revisit.

Worse still, the Power of the President has grown beyond

recognition. The Founders never envisaged him in king-likestatus; the Chief Executive was to execute the laws passed by thePeoples Representatives, serve as Commander-in-Chief, appointambassadors, and negotiate treaties ( Art. II, Sec. 2). Instead, hedevises laws through his Agencies, his bureaucrats, and hisfriends in the judiciary, completely out of line with theConstitution.

For our first 50 years, Rodriguez reported, Government cost eachcitizen, $1.67. Then, up to 1913, it cost about $7.67 or $170-225in todays terms. Now, according to the Cato Institute,Government costs every American $15,000 - $30,000, dependingon the criteria. We have a Federal Budget that is way beyond our

means, but I am excited by our 100 new Republicans in Congress

who have introducedConstitutionally basedbills [to rein this in], hesaid. Wasteful spendingsuch as financing theU.N. is now under

scrutiny. If Congress canreturn to behaving asJefferson wrote, according to Nature andNatures God, I am

    hopeful for the future.

    Greetings REC MembersBy Tom Mullings

    REC Committeeman, District 87

Our recent meeting in WPB troubled me, and I wish toshare some of my thoughts with you for your consideration.

During former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnsonsaddress, he informed us that he thought going into Iraq hadbeen a mistake and that he now favored withdrawal from

that country. Many of you warmly applauded hissentiments, and that has caused me concern about thedirection in foreign policy many in the GOP seem to wantto lead our Party. I respectfully wish to offer you my ownpersonal opinion about American withdrawal from Iraqwithin a recent historical context that I hope will providefood for thought to those who favor such a policy.

In 1968 an uprising occurred in Czechoslovakia that wasbrutally suppressed by the Soviet KGB and Red Armytanks. Nevertheless, the timeless yearning for freedom thatwas behind that Prague Spring eventually spread to other

areas behind the Iron Curtain in the late 80s and, aided andnurtured by Ronald Reagan, broke the power of the USSR,won the Cold War, and changed the world as we know it forthe better.

In 2003, in the aftermath of 9/11 and in accordance with themuch maligned and misunderstood Bush Doctrine,President Bush invaded, conquered, and planted theembryonic seed of democracy in the despotically-tormentedcountry of Iraq. For those of you who believe that Iraq as well as the presentNATO involvement in Libya are mistakes, I would

respectfully submit to you that the Arab Spring that presently struggling to germinate in numerous countries the Middle East was influenced by the developindemocracy in Iraq, could easily be co-opted by bettdisciplined and organized Islamist elements, and requirour undivided support, and not our abandonment.

The problem is President Obama and his bewildering twdemands that Gadhafi must go and that we must leave thleadership of the NATO effort to others. In terms of gran

strategy, our strategically challenged Commander-in-Chiis sadly lacking. The Arab Spring presents a goldgeopolitical opportunity for the United States that should bseized upon and midwifed carefully along with all the haand soft power resources necessary to insure succesespecially in Syria and Iran.

While living in a democratic region does not guarantpeace, it is a historical fact that democracies are less liketo make war on each other than autocratic or totalitaristates are. An Arab and Iranian Spring spreadinthroughout the Middle East, while being guided an

guarded by a coalition of willing Western democraciunder AMERICAN leadership, offers the best chance forlasting period of stability, prosperity and peace between tIsraelis, Arabs and Iranians, and would clearly serve a vitinterest of the United States in one of the most gestrategically important regions of the world.

Congressman West Pumps GasFor His Constituents

May 16, 2011 WEST PALM. Unlike the President

of the United States, Allen West does not have to sitback and think about the last time he had to pump gas, because that is just what the Congressman was doingone afternoon at a Chevron Station. Im proud to saythat my Congressman is not afraid to get his hands alittle dirty! He spent the day taking time to understandthe financial pain at the gas pump we in CongressionalDistrict 22 experience each time we fill up, or at leasttry to fill as much as our slimming wallets will allow.

While taking a breather between pumping gas for thestation's customers, Congressman West spoke with anumber of them and listenedcarefully to their stories abouthow the gas prices have affectedtheir daily lives. Pictured aboveright is John Clark, President ofRestore Our America, Inc. Westalso invited businessman JasonLovelady, of Carpenter Roofing,to tell how the rising price of gashas affected his business. Westis a member of the HouseCommittee on Small Business.

After pumping gas, Congressman Allen West gave press briefing that was carried on Fox News th

afternoon. West credited Obama with following thHouse Republicans lead in moving to open up moon land and off shore leasing for oil drilling, as well getting rid of permitting moratoriums. West dihowever, slam the President for granting Brazil billion dollars so that they can perform oil exploratioand for promising that America would be their biggecustomer. Instead, Congressman West went on to sawe need to be producing, consuming, and maybe eveexporting our own full spectrum of energy resourc

    right here in the Unite

Response to Sherry Lees Union Article

[Our Assistant Vice Chair Sherry Lee apparently hit a

nerve with her article Understanding the Union Threat

published in last months issue. This is what we love to

see, and we encourage any and all comments and politecriticisms, so please send them in to us. Ed.]

    Ms. Lee,

I just read your article in the PB County GOP newsletterand I just have to comment. As a life-long conservative anda public employee, I am recently having a very difficulttime identifying with the conservative cause due to theattacks on our pensions. I worked many hours to getCongressman Allen West elected and have enthusiasticallysupported the cause for many years.

I fully understand the situation created by the pensions andthe need for reform. However, as I enter my 23rd year ofpolice service, and am having to look to the not too distantfuture in terms of retirement, I take issue with the fact thatthe Republican Party has been beating the "pension reform"drum without making any distinction between those publicemployees who do not contribute anything to their pensionand those of us that have contributed 10% their entirecareers.

And no distinction is made between those in government

who sit behind desks or mow the grass on theroadway medians and those of us that put our lives on theline every day in service to our fellow citizens. I took thisjob making about $20,000.00 a year and was honored to doso. I won't bore you with the litany of physical assaults andattempts on my life I have been subjected to on the job. I will never be a millionaire because of police work, and am fine with that. But, I was promised a pension, havemade plans with it in mind, and have been contributing to it,and now the Republicans want to take it away, or eviscerateit, which is going to severely hurt my family.

Why is it that those of us so close to retirement cannot begrandfathered in and anyone not vested or just enteringpublic service be made to take a reformed pension? Why isit that the Republican Party refuses to make the above-mentioned distinctions and lumps all public employees (aterm of derision now I guess) together? My city is in greatfinancial shape and my pension is healthy but a new law isgoing to penalize me for something I have nothing todo with.

I ask this with all due respect and humility. My wife and Ihave been sick with worry over what this will mean to our

family. The funny thing is, when the economy was doinwell, and all those in the private sector were making monehand over fist, no one wanted to enter public service anlooked down upon those of us that did. Now that theconomy is bad, people are turning their frustration ananger toward us.

Just what is a conservative public employee to do?

    Sincerely,

Christopher J. BarcaPalm Beach Gardens, FL
