A word from the Administrator…
It is hard to believe that the fall season is right around
the corner! In June - with the help of some very dedi-
cated and hard working volunteers - a new vegetable
garden was planted outside of Fairview (see page
7). This garden is not only a wonderful addition en-
joyed by all; it also parallels Fairview in five major
ways:
First, we are deeply rooted with the Odd Fellows, Re-
bekahs and the greater community of Groton and be-
yond. Second, we cannot be vibrant without the support
of over 175 volunteers, active supporters and donors
that enthusiastically tend to our needs. Third, we are
growing as illustrated by the proposed 23 active adult
home development on our campus. Fourth, in the same
way that a garden requires warmth, dedication and care
to thrive, our employees provide this every day with our
residents. And fifth, is the need to constantly keep the
soil rich in the garden to help it grow - at Fairview, the
need to cultivate new ideas and find ways to continually
achieve excellence. Of course there are many other
positive parallels that we could make but these are the
highlights.
Unfortunately, we also have to acknowledge that there
are dark clouds looming ahead for reimbursement from
the government for services we provide. The complex
and difficult budget problems at the federal and state
level continue to be a major threat to Fairview.
We will, however, continue to shine brightly because
we always have something to be proud of such as main-
taining our Five-Star Nursing Home Rating with CMS
(Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and our
successful car raffle. As always, thank you to everyone
for your continued support-it helps make Fairview a
beacon of light and provider of choice in the region.

FUNDRAISING REPORT FOR JULY 1, 2011 THRU JULY 7, 2012
We want to take this opportunity to thank our very generous donors who have contributed $176,330.00 over the past twelve
months to the Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut Development Fund. Below are highlights from our very successful
fundraising campaign.
The Fairview Antiques & Collectibles Auction was held on November 5 and generated a net profit of $64,160.00.
The nine auctions held to date have realized a total net profit of $448,630.00. (Please see enclosed flyer for information
on the 2012 auction).
Fairview’s seventh annual car raffle was held on July 7. Five-hundred and twelve tickets were sold for a net profit
of $32,154.00. This is the most the raffle has ever raised. Total net revenue for all seven raffles is $160,425.00.
Our seventh annual fund appeal is ongoing. It began in January of this year. The fund year closes on December
31. Our goal is $25,000. The Grand Lodge of CT has agreed to provide a $5,000 matching gift again in 2012. To date
we have raised $12,944.40. So, we are slightly more than halfway towards reaching our goal. If you haven’t already
made a gift to the annual fund a donor envelope is included in this newsletter.

A sign unveiling was held on August 7 commemorating
Chelsea Groton Bank’s $25,000.00 donation to Fair-
view’s Land Development Fund. The fund was estab-
lished in 2011 to help
offset the cost of new
independent senior hous-
ing planned for Fair-
view’s campus. The
new independent hous-
ing will be in addition to
24 independent living
apartments that currently
exist. Pictured in front

CAMP CONNECTICUT A
HIDDEN TREASURE
Camp Connecticut is owned and maintained by the Odd
Fellows of Connecticut. This camp was established in
1967 when a group of Odd Fellows purchased 110 acres
of land encompassing the towns of Hebron and Colches-
ter. For years the camp was used by Odd Fellows and
their guests for camping, fishing and hunting.
For a period of time Camp Connecticut fell into disrepair.
However, under the leadership of Camp President Rich-
ard Trudelle, Nobel Grand of Stonington Lodge #26, the
camp has undergone a dramatic revival. Much of the
land has been cleared of overgrown brush, an existing
pavilion has been upgraded and now has electric power
supplied by a generator donated by Odd Fellow Dick
Campbell. Other improvements include a children’s
playground with toys donated by Fairview that had been
used by the Child Development Center before it ceased
operation in 2010. Also, a storage trailer was recently
donated by Stephen Terry Lodge #59 that houses several
pieces of equipment. The Grand Lodge of Connecticut
along with other lodges including Stonington, Niantic,
Osprey, Welcome, Townsend and Palm have also made
financial contributions to help support the camp.
Several members of the Stephen Terry Lodge including
Pete Lewis, Ralph Nesci, Ed Kowalski, and Rodney
Schloffer have spent dozens of hours volunteering at the
camp to make it the beautiful place it now has become.
Rich Trudelle, Rob Carson, and Ralph Paige from the
Stonington Lodge have also volunteered.
The camp is available to any member of the Connecticut
Odd Fellows and their guests. For more information re-
garding the use of the camp contact Rich Trudelle at 860-
536-9563.

DIME SAVINGS BANK PROVIDES GRANT
The Dime Savings Bank continued its support of Fair-
view by including a grant of $1,000.00 in their recent
grant cycle to help purchase a clini-
cal apparatus called a Hydrocollator.
This piece of equipment is a self-
contained, thermostatically con-
trolled heating unit that warms hot
packs. The hot packs are used to
facilitate the healing and dissipation
of pain that many of our residents
experience. Pictured presenting the
grant to David Brown, Fairview Di-
rector of Development, is Laraine
Cellucci, Stonington Borough, Connecticut Branch Man-
ager.

Five more residents at Fairview now have new flat screen
televisions in their rooms

majority of rooms have
been outfitted with new

FAIRVIEW VEGETABLE GARDEN
Through the generosity of Bill Lincoln and the Eastern Con-
necticut Community Garden Association, Fairview had a 30’ x
70’ garden this year that supplied
vegetables to Fairview’s resi-
dents. Bill owns a rescue draft
horse and volunteers at the Con-
necticut Draft Horse Rescue in
Haddam Neck, Connecticut. He
wanted to do something to give
back to Fairview to acknowledge
the wonderful care his mother-in-
law, Phyllis O’Rourke, received while she was a resident be-
fore she passed away. Bill
brought his own horse and was
accompanied by three other Bel-
gian rescue horses and several
volunteers who plowed and har-
rowed a plot directly in front of
the recreation department. Pic-
tured are members of Fairview’s
staff, local dignitaries, and vol-
unteers: (L-R) Patrick Kelley, Eastern Connecticut Community
Garden Assoc., Andy Maynard,

Representative, James Rosenman,

ment and Community Gardens

garden from the initial plowing throughout the summer.
GROTON LIONS CLUB HELPS FAIRVIEW PUR-
CHASE TELEVISIONS
The Groton Lions Club continues to support the mission
of Fairview. Recently the Club made a $500.00 donation
allowing Fairview to
purchase three flat
screen televisions for
residents’ rooms. This
type of donation makes it
possible for Fairview to
continue to enhance the
quality of life of its resi-
dents. Pictured present-
ing a check to Fairview Director of Development, David
Brown, is 2012 Groton Lions Club President Karen “kb”
Bryant.
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Susan Koplin spent a short time at Fairview as
a resident receiving rehabilitation. She be-
came enamored with the volunteer program
and decided to become one herself. Although
a volunteer for only a short time, she has made
a big impact on our residents. She devotes
most of her time in Fairview’s extended recreational activities
program (ERA). This is a daily program that focuses on early
onset Alzheimer’s residents. Her infectious smile and laughter
are awesome. It is individuals like Sue who dramatically en-
hance the quality of life of our residents. If you would like to
become a volunteer please contact Sarah Stanley at
