PADEREWSKI DAYS IN NEW YORK

NOVEMBER 16-24, 2019

2

CELEBRATING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY

OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

BY POLAND AND THE USA

The 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations by Poland and the USA

is a special historical moment in which we remind the world of the great figures of Polish

history and culture. The PADEREWSKI DAYS IN NEW YORK festival, through various

activities addressed to the New York City audience, presents, promotes and reminds

Ignacy Jan Paderewski and his great merits in the field of music and Polish-American

diplomatic cooperation for Polish independence.

The program of Paderewski Days includes a series of cultural events: concert, recital, art-

show, lectures and meetings with artists from Poland and USA. The originator of the

festival is Adam Wibrowski - a member of international music associations promoting the

works of Maestro Paderewski in the world.

Festival is co-organized and supported by: RenesArt Foundation, New York Public Library

for the Performing Arts, Polish & Slavic Center, Polish Museum of America. Activities are

co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland as part of the

competition "Cooperation in the field of public diplomacy 2019”.

IGNACY JAN PADEREWSKI (1860-1941)

Ignacy Jan Paderewski was an outstanding Polish pianist and

composer, a philantropist, independence activist, a politician, a

diplomat, a statesman and the Polish Premier. He was acclaimed

as a cultural icon and musical genius in his lifetime and as one of

the most charismatic artists of the first half of the twentieth

century, who made Poland famous all over the world. His music

has been played in prestigious concert halls, inspiring other

artists and thousands of music lovers all over the world for over

hundred years since then.

Thanks to Paderewski and his genius interpretation of the works of Chopin, Liszt or

Beethoven the heritage of high culture has been perpetuated and transferred to the next

generations throughout the magical sound of the grand piano. Paderewski was also one

of the greatest ambassadors of Poland at a time when this nation was deprived of

sovereign statehood. His political and diplomatic activities contributed most significantly

to the regaining of Polish indepedence in 1918.
