Parent Conference Day October 17th is a big day

for Parents and Teachers Not many things are more important than the

communication between parents and teachers. In

these days of web sites, Facebook pages, email and

even texting, parent to school and parent to teacher

communication may be at an all-time high. Nothing,

however, beats a good, old-fashioned sit down

between parents and teachers.

Because of that importance, the Tift County

Board of Education has as its policy that no family

may receive a student’s report card until a parent/

teacher conference has taken place.

The Tift County Schools Kindergarten through

Fifth Grade Parent/Teacher Conference Day is

scheduled for Friday, October 17th. The hours for

conference day will be from 8:00-4:00. Please

contact your student’s teacher for an appointment.

“Parent conferences are a valuable tool in the

education of any child,” said Principal Rose Wilhite.

“We hope to have a large turnout from parents to

show their support of G.O. Bailey and their

students.”

During the conferences the teacher and the

parents and/or guardians will have the opportunity to

talk face-to-face. Discussions during the meeting

will center around progress in school, what can be

done at home to build on their student’s strengths

and overcome challenges and how their children are

getting along with classmates.

“Active participation of parents is essential!”

said Wilhite. “Communication is one of the best

Daughtrey joins

Bailey as Parent

Coordinator

October Students

of the Month

After 32 years in the classroom, Lisa Daughtrey is taking on a new role as G.O. Bailey’s new Parent Coordinator

After 32 years in Tift County

classrooms, Lisa Daughtrey is

taking on a new role as G.O.

Bailey’s new Parent Coordinator.

While the role is new, Daughtrey is

excited about the position.

“My job is to bridge the gap

between the home and the school,”

said Daughtrey. “I want to help

parents who are trying to support

their students.”

One of Daughtrey’s main jobs

is to provide resources to parents

and she is currently filling her room

with those. She will also be hosting

workshops to “give parents

everything they will need to support

their student at home.”

Clean living will be the focus

during Red Ribbon Week at G.O.

Bailey. The week will start on

Monday, October 27th and run

through Friday, October 31st.

There are many activities planned

for a week that promotes a drug

free life. Each day of the week

will have a theme.

Monday’s theme is “Sock It to

Drugs!” Students and faculty will

be encouraged to wear their

craziest socks.

Tuesday will be “Black Out

Drugs Day!” Students and faculty

will wear black to show that they

have pledged to live drug free.

Wednesday will be a big day

as “Red Day” will highlight the

theme of the whole week—Red

Ribbon Week.

Thursday the Bailey Bears will

“Shade Out Drugs” by wearing

sunglasses and being way too cool

for drugs.

On Friday, students and

teachers will wear a shirt from

their favorite team as they “Team

Up Against Drugs!”

Children and staff will be

given red ribbons and stickers to

wear. We will have contests and

giveaways all week. There will be

grade level writing contests in

addition to drawing contests.

Additionally, students at each

grade level will have classroom

guidance lessons on the dangers of

alcohol and drugs.
