Quinto Domingo de Cuaresma

18 de Marzo, 2018

Queridos feligreses y Amigos:

Fifth Sunday of Lent

March 18, 2018

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

You may be familiar with the expression “To each his own”. This weekend at St Joseph Church, each mass has its own readings. It is a special Sun-day! The 3rd scrutiny and the Vigil of St Joseph are the reasons.

On Saturday, at the Vigil mass, we are still focusing on conversion and Jeremiah tells us the law is to be written in our hearts. The letter to the He-brews tells us we have a mediator and intercessor in Jesus. John’s gospel reading invites us to his vision of the agony in the garden as Jesus’ death and resur-rection loom ahead.

On Sunday, the raising of Lazarus is the gos-pel for the catechesis of the Catechumens and Can-didates. It gives us 5 significant “ifs”: if he is asleep, if you had been here, if he dies, if you had been here, if you believe. Be curious as to who is behind these IFS.

On Monday, St. Joseph, the spouse of Mary, is a Solemnity and we are under his protection in Waycross as a parish community. We are privileged to celebrate a 6pm Vigil Mass, the day before his special day for us. St Joseph lived for one purpose: serve Jesus personally and faithfully. He was a fos-ter father and a disciple. He lived obedience to God’s will, moved to Egypt, and returned to Naza-reth. He cooperated in the work of Redemption. Ser-vice, obedience, trust and generosity are the graces we count on this weekend through his intercession.

Question of the week: How has the confi-

dence that Jesus shared with Joseph affected me? Do

I know Saint Joseph as a friend whom I can call on?

“We have a Lord who is capable of crying with us, capable of walking with us in the most diffi-cult moments of life.”

Dear Friends: Please welcome Fr . Francois Pellis-sier again to our parish. He comes with such energy

and vigor to celebrate with us. He is a Glenmary Home Missioner, living in Fitzgerald and helping where needed in the diocese. He speaks three lan-

guages fluently and gives retreats around the country.

Future Planning: Times for Mass on Easter Sunday, April 1, have been reconfigured so that we will have an extra Mass to serve our needs better at 9 AM in English and 11 AM Bilingual followed by the usual Easter Egg Hunt for kids at 12:30.

Parish Council meeting was postponed until the end of April because of Fr. Bob’s funeral for his

Mom.

Stations of the Cross: EVERY FRIDAY of

Lent, at 6 PM, Jesus asks, “Will you walk with

me?”

Rules For Fasting during Lent: Remember the universal discipline of the Church for fasting is that, on the Fridays of Lent, we do not eat be-tween meals and that we eat and drink less (the main meal not to exceed 2 small meals) and that we abstain from eating meat! The rule applies to those who are not ill between the ages of 12 to 59. Remember we are fasting to free ourselves up to serve others! Make it a prayer (otherwise it is just dieting!)

Operation Rice Bowl: This Lent, please take home your own Rice Bowl and decide as a family how you want to bring the world to your dinner table and into your hearts this Lent. Rice Bowls are collected on Palm Sunday and Holy Thursday at the end of Lent.

BAA: The Bishop’s Annual Appeal is underway. Thank you to those who have made their BAA pledge. If you have not made

your pledge, please take a moment and do your part for the dio-cese of Savannah. Our parish needs you to help meet our target.

Every little bit helps!

Gracias a

LIVING THE EUCHARIST Prayer

Dear Jesus, help us to spread your presence everywhere we go. Flood our souls with your spirit and life. Penetrate and possess our whole being so utterly, that our lives may be only a radiance of yours.

Shine through us, and be so in us, that every person we come into contact with may feel your presence. Let them look up and see no longer us, but only you! Stay with us, and then we shall begin to shine as you shine, So to shine as a light to others. The light, O Jesus, will be all from you; none of it will be ours. it will be you, shining on others through us. Let us thus praise you in the way you love best by shining on those around us. Amen.

Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman

Venerado Cardenal John Henry Newman
