Promoted best practice for families struggling with addictions by launching a webinar series, recruiting multiple substance abuse experts as trainers, and

strengthening partnerships among key players.

Created or refined our distance learnings

to ensure they rival the quality of our

face-to-face offerings.

Supported greater placement stability and

fewer disruptions by coaching caregivers

on parenting skills and effective advocacy.

Expanded our focus from in-classroom

learning to workplace application, based on the research on training transfer.

Advanced best practice principles in risk and

safety assessments by continuing to integrate

Ohio’s CAPMIS tools into all OCWTP training.

Prepped liaisons and supervisors to help

youth transition from foster care to successful adulthood through the

Bridges program.

Offered population-specific conferences throughout the

Regional Training Center (RTC) network, targeting the regional knowledge and skill needs of foster caregivers,

caseworkers, or supervisors.

Provided multiple training formats to enlighten as many

staff and caregivers as possible on how to identify and intervene for young victims of human trafficking.

Founded in 1986, the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program (OCWTP) is a comprehensive, competency-based in-service training system that promotes learning excellence for child welfare staff and caregivers - the Everyday Heroes who protect Ohio children and families.

The OCWTP is a collaborative effort of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS), the Public Children Services Association of Ohio (PCSAO), eight Regional Training Centers (RTCs) throughout Ohio, and the Institute for Human Services (IHS).
