Bi-Weekly XLXV No. 22, October 24, 2012 faith friendship fellowship followership fruitfulness www.firstsayyes.com Throughout this season we have focused upon prayer. Prayer is a conversation with God. It is our connec- tion point to God’s power in our lives. Wonderful things happen when peo- ple pray. We are a praying people. We pray for God’s direction and leadership for our nation and our world. An old hymn reflects this idea of praying for our homeland and all the na- tions. It is called, “This is My Song” set to the same tune as “Be Still My Soul.” The lyrics are: V.1 This is my song, O God of all the nations, a song of peace for lands afar and mine. This is my home, the country where my heart is; here are my hopes, my dreams, my holy shrine; but other hearts in other lands are beating with hopes and dreams as true and high as mine. V. 2 My country’s skies are bluer than the ocean, and sunlight beams on clover- leaf and pine; but other lands have sunlight too, and clover, and skies are everywhere as blue as mine. O hear my song, thou God of all the na- tions, a song of peace for their land and for mine. V. 3 This is my prayer, O Lord of all earth’s kingdoms: Thy kingdom come; on earth thy will be done. Let Christ be lifted up till all shall serve him, and hearts united learn to live as one. O hear my prayer, thou God of all the nations; myself I give thee; let thy will be done. So I offer this song as my prayer of hope for our nation and all the nations of the world. As we are focused here at home on elections and leader- ship, may we be people of prayer. May we also be people of action who vote. Please vote as you are prayer- fully led. And then as people are elected to serve, may we do our best to support them. Generally speaking, Pray-Act isn’t a bad approach to anything in life. See you at the “pray-act” place this weekend! ~jimd. P.S.~ Some have inquired why the church hasn’t told you how to vote. Truth is, that isn’t our place. God isn’t exclusively with one party or the other. But I do believe people of faith should exercise their faith by praying for God’s guidance and then voting as they feel led. So join me in doing just that. I’m going to pray and vote.
