OVERVIEWofOurScience:
Brushingasidecenturiesofhomeremediesandprimitivesciencewhereharshandoftenineffectivechemicalswereusedforhygiene,sanitationandgeneralcleanup,thispaperintendstounveilanewandexcitingbodyofknowledgeinthefightofcellwallstructures.
Nearly200yearsagotwoscientists,MatthiasJakobSchleidenandTheodorSchwannfirstobservedthatalllivingtissueismadeupofcells.In1839,Schwannpublished"MicroscopicInvestigationsontheAccordanceintheStructureandGrowthofPlantsandAnimals."Hisworkwasthefirstpublicstatementofcelltheory,namely,thatcellsmakeupalllivingthings.
Scientistsapproachedthenewworldofcellularbiologywithunbridledpassion,andtheycommencedextensivetestingonalevelthatwaspreviouslyunheardof—allinsearchofthepropertiesofvariouschemicalsandtheireffects.Ofinteresttoourimmediatediscussionisthetestingthatwasdonetofirmlyestablishchlorineasauniversalsanitizer,areputationthathassurvivedtothisday.Likeotherchemicals,thescientistsoflongagoalsoobservedthatinadditiontoitsgreatdiseasefightingproperties,chlorinecouldbeusedasaweaponofwar.
Cellularresearchcontinued.Welearnedaboutpathogens,specificdiseases,viruses,moldsandfungusesanddiscoveredmoreabouttherelationshipofchemistrytocells.Thedevelopmentofchemicalscontinuedtoexpandanditwasnotlonguntilsciencerealizedthatchemicalsalltoooftenhaveadangeroussideeffectonhumans,plantsandanimals.

ProteinsarederivedfromDNAsourceswheretheDNAmoleculeisunraveledatkeylocations.Afterpairingofthousandsofaminoacids,theproteinsaresplitoff,andareusedfordifferingpurposes.Someproteinstransportionsacrossthecellmembrane,whileothershelptransportwastes.Someactlikegluetoholdcertaincompoundstogethertokeepthecellstructureintact.

Howdowemeltproteins?Meltisactuallyapoorchoiceofwordsbecausewedon’tmeltit,webreakdownitscellstructureoftheaminoacidsbondingtheprotiens,but“melt”isthesimplestforminwhichtoexplainandforpeopletoeasilygraspwhathappens.
