SOLIDARITYAT CARREFOUR

For Carrefour, being involved in solidarity means helping people every day in the countries in which the Group

operates. Drawing on its profession as a retailer and its knowledge of local conditions, Carrefour provides

support for people of all social backgrounds and works with non-profit organisations to address a highly diverse range of issues at local, national and international levels.

Open to the world, one of Carrefour’s missions is to strengthen ties between populations by supporting the development of people and communities in need and their integration. To that end, Carrefour is involved in food programmes supported by the Carrefour Foundation, through sponsorship projects conducted at country level and through the solidarity initiatives deployed by its stores and warehouses. In fact, it is the sum of the solidarity actions conducted by Carrefour day in day out that delineates its active commitment to society at large.

A shared commitmentBeing involved in solidarity is everyone’s concern

In addition to the operational commitment and financial support provided by the company, Carrefour encourages the ongoing involvement of its employees, stores, warehouses and head offi ces, all of which engage in solidarity actions on a daily basis. Employees and customers are at the heart of the community involvement conduc-ted by Carrefour.

KEY ACTORS OF SOLIDARITY AT CARREFOUR

nd y, nt ad ns at c-

Promoting social inclusion: a main priorityWorking with associations

Carrefour offers its multi-local retailing expertise and the skills of its employees to associations, par-ticularly to promote the social and vocational reinte-gration of the chronically unemployed. The Group is also actively involved in the fi ght against exclusion through community food actions.

Transmission of skillsSharing know-how

Carrefour encourages the sharing and transmis-sion of know-how by its employees, particularly by promoting food trades and supporting voca-tional integration.

CARREFOUR FOUNDATION

The Carrefour Foundation serves as a support for solidarity actions and has a mission of general interest. It is active on an international scale on two main fronts: food solidarity and emergency aid.

FOUNDATIONS AND SOLIDARITY TEAMS OF THE

COUNTRIES

In all its countries, Carrefour mobilises its resources to deploy and coordinate solidarity projects that meet the needs of local communities.

STORES AND WAREHOUSES

Stores and warehouses, which are in direct contact with customers, non-profi t organisations and local authorities, make a major contribution to the realisation and setting-up of solidarity actions, through the donation of products and valuable fi nancial and logistical support.

EMPLOYEES

The women and men of Carrefour personify solidarity. Each day, the mobilisation of Carrefour’s teams ensures the consistency, eff ectiveness and success of the undertaken solidarity actions.

Continuous supportfor local associationsWorking in partnership with community stakeholders

Carrefour engages in outreach projects with the support of its stores rooted in the local commu-nity by relying on non-profit organisations that work directly with people in need.

COLLECTIONCarrefour relays and coordinates

food and non-food donation campaigns and collection

drives, on local, national and international scales. The collected consumer goods are then given to associations that redistribute

Food Bank collection campaignsInternational. In 2013, Carrefour, which lends i ts suppor t to the European Federation of Food Banks (FEBA) and the Global FoodBanking Network (G FN) , o rgan i sed a ma jo r collection campaign in eight European and South American countries in which the Group operates. Over 2,200 stores and 470 Carrefour volunteers in France, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Poland, Romania, Belgium and Spain, participated in the food collection from customers. This campaign is part of a long-standing partnership wi th Food Banks , of which Carrefour is one of the largest daily contributors in many countries, as well as being their historical partner in the mass retail sector.

During the campaign, the generosity of Carrefour customers enabled the collection of the equivalent of over 9 million meals.

“Operación kilo”Spain. Thanks to a partnership b e t w e e n t h e F u n d a c i ó n Solidaridad Carrefour and the FESBAL (Spanish federation of Food Banks) to collect food products donated by Carrefour hypermarket customers, the teams of Carrefour Spain have deployed this initiative every year since 2001 for the benefit of those in greatest need. For each kilo given by a customer, Carrefour donates an additional kilo. Local Food Banks then divide the food products up among their various partner organisations, which, in turn, redistribute these goods to the underprivileged.

The three campaigns organised in 2013 resulted in the collection of 3,500,000 kilos of food products (half donated by customers and the other half by Carrefour).

Collection of school bagsFrance and Spain. Before the beginning of each school year, Carrefour stores organise a nationwide collection of student backpacks, school bags and school supplies. In France, parents and children wishing to participate can deposit backpacks or school bags in good condition in their store, in exchange for a voucher on purchases; these bags are then given to the Emmaüs-Le Relais association. In Spain, school sup-plies received from customers are matched by the company, bene-fiting more than 25,000 children accompanied by the Red Cross. In 2013, 120,000 school bags and backpacks were delivered to Emmaüs in France and nearly €490,000 in school supplies to the Spanish Red Cross.

REDISTRIBUTIONTo make basic grocery items more accessible to the disadvantaged,

Carrefour relies on store and warehouse teams to give a second

life to products withdrawn from shelves. These concrete actions

also work to the benefit of vocational integration.

Food donationsBrazil. Carrefour contributes to the fi ght against hunger and food waste alongside the public authori-ties. Since 2009, the “Parceria que Alimenta” (Partnership that feeds) programme promotes the donation of food products with short use-by dates. These fresh products withdrawn from the shelves are donated by stores and warehouses to 30 partner Food Banks.

In 2013, the equivalent of 2.4 million meals were donated by Carrefour Brazil.

At Group level, the equivalent of over 77 million meals were redistributed in 2013.

“Solidarity Equipment Bank”France. Carrefour supplies Emmaüs Défi with unsold non-food items (household linen, small and large household appliances, furniture, bedding, tableware, etc.) to stock the “Solidarity Equipment Bank”. This structure enables di-sadvantaged households moving into their fi rst stable home to fur-nish it with new products at a low cost. Supported by the Carrefour Foundation, the “Solidarity Equip-ment Bank” contributes to the social mission of Emmaüs Défi; it is staffed by 110 employees in social integration programmes supported by a team of 35 per-manent employees who handle the organisation’s logistics, pro-curement and management.

Since its creation in 2012 and thanks to the 40,000 products donated by Carrefour, this initiative has helped 700 families furnish their fi rst home.

Medical caravansRomania. As a complement to the support provided by the Carrefour Foundation to the OvidiuRo association, Carrefour Romania supports the “Together for Rural Health” programme with the goal of equipping medical caravans. In 2014, the school in Rosia Montana, a remote village 400 kilometres from Bucharest, was converted into a medical of f ice where specialists and medical students provided free consultations in paediatrics, cardiology, radiology and ophthalmology. In addition, Carrefour offered these families the equivalent of 600 meals.

150 adults and 90 children living in poverty were given free medical consultations.

“Les Oubliés des Vacances”France. Carrefour has been participating since 2006 in a “Canned foods fair” to the bene-fi t of the Secours populaire fran-çais, which offers holidays each summer to 5,000 children from disadvantaged families from the Paris region, during its campaign named “Deprived of a holiday” (Les Oubliés des Vacances). For one week, Carrefour and 14 partner brands invite custo-mers to participate by purcha-sing a shared-profi t product, with 5% of the proceeds going to the association. In 2013, this solida-rity action succeeded in raising €447,000.

Since the Fair’s inception, this operation “Buy canned food, offer children a holiday!” has allowed almost 45,000 children to enjoy a full day of summer vacation.

Support for disadvantaged school childrenPoland. Carrefour and its foun-dation have joined forces with the Caritas Foundation to deploy concrete initiatives all year long to help disadvantaged children pursue their education under better conditions. In support of this objective, an operation called “Feeding children with Carrefour” was set up to provide free meals throughout the school year in cafeterias located in day centres.

During the 2013/2014 school year, more than 245,000 meals were provided to 1,260 children from 42 centers.

“Neurodon”France. In 2002, Carrefour joined forces with the Fédération pour l a Reche rche su r l e Cerveau (Federation for Brain Research) by providing support for the annual nationwide fund-raising operation known as the “N e u r o d o n ” . D u r i n g t h i s operation, customers can make a contribution to the association at the checkout via a “donation voucher” worth 2 euros. These funds are invested in various research programmes focusing on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy or cerebrovascular accidents.

In twelve years, more than €1 million have been collected in stores to fund 34 research programmes.

Solidarity rounding up campaignArgentina. Every year since 2007, Carrefour has lent its support to the programme “Tu cambio puede cambiar vidas” (Your change can change lives) to benefit Unicef. Carrefour’s customers are encouraged to round up the amount of their purchases to the next higher un i t and then dona te th i s change to the association to help fund its educational pro-jects in favour of children and teenagers.

Since the operation’s inception, Unicef has collected more than 6 million pesos (approximately €547,000).

Food safety

China. The Carrefour China Foundation, created in 2004, aims to heighten the awareness of employees and customers to food safety related issues. It also promotes training for young people and the development of agricultural product lines. For example, in 2013, the foundation endeavoured to increase custo-mer awareness on these issues during “Nutrition week”, and then during “Food safety week” in Chinese hypermarkets.

In 2013, 20,000 employees received intensive training on food safety and hygiene.

“Un Libro por un Sueño”Spain. Par ticularly involved in solidarity initiatives aimed at chi ldren, Carrefour Spain’s employees make local com-mitments through a network of ambassadors and with the sup-port of the Fundación Solidaridad Carrefour. In 2013, an initiative named “Un Libro por un Sueño” (A book for a dream) helped raise more than €1,255,000, through the sale of children’s books in all Carrefour stores, for the Federación Española de Asociaciones de Espina Bífida e Hidrocefalia , which helps children with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Thanks to this operation, the association funded the purchase of 12 specially adapted vehicles, computers and educational material, as well as medical equipment for 15 multisensory stimulation rooms and bicycles adapted to the children’s conditions.

“Voluntario”Brazil . With this volunteer programme establ ished in 2001, employees of Carrefour B r a z i l d e v o t e f o u r hours monthly of their work time to a charitable organisation of their choice with the goal of sharing their knowledge and expertisewith the benefi ciaries. CarrefourBrazil also covers transpor-tation expenses and supplies the equipment required for training. Since its inception, Carrefour Brazil’s “Voluntario” programme has encouraged some 12,000 employees to volunteer for 800 non-profit organisations by providing tuto-ring, environmental education and so on.

In 2013, 800 employees volunteered to share their skills with 8,000 people.

“Sumando Voluntades”A r gent ina . S i nce 20 09 , Carrefour has been working with local communities through a programme known as “Sumando Voluntades” (Working together) to facilitate the spreading of solidarity actions by employees. In 2014, for example, over 200 volunteers are working with the Fundación Huerta Niño on the construction and development of eight vege-table gardens for isolated rural primary schools, thus streng-thening the ties between students, families and teachers while educating them about the benefi ts of a healthier diet.

Over 240 Carrefour ambassadors and 4,800 volunteers devote more than 20,000 hours to the “Sumando Voluntades” programme each year.

Sharing of logistics skillsFrance. Carrefour organises this particular form of sponsor-ship based on making person-nel skills available to a partner association free of charge on an as-needed basis. Hereby, employees from the logistics teams share their expertise with Food Banks and Emmaüs Défi on various types of missions, such as adapting logistical organisation, freight fl ow analy-sis, space optimisation, trai-ning, etc.

These teams have devoted more than 100 hours to sharing their competencies.

“Shanghai Young Bakers”China. The Carrefour Foundation is the main sponsor of the “Shan-ghai Young Bakers” initiative, aimed at providing free training in French bakery and pastry tech-niques to young people from disadvantaged environments. Carrefour hypermarkets also participate in the programme by hosting students each year for professional training (on hygiene, food safety, etc.) and internships.

In fi ve years, more than 110 young people have been trained in a profession offering genuine career opportunities on China’s job market.

“Conexão-Varejo”Brazil. Since 2012, Carrefour has chosen to join the “Conexão-Varejo” programme organised by the Rede Cidadã association to promote professional integration. The project’s goal is to train young people from disadvantaged envi-ronments in retail jobs, through skills based volunteering, in parti-cular. Carrefour provides support through the creation of training programmes tailored to such food trades as butcher, fi shmonger or baker. These sessions are co-led by Carrefour employee volunteers and take place in Carrefour stores.

In 2013, nearly 1,000 young people were trained in food trades by Carrefour employees.

“Les Boucles du Cœur”France. Committed to acting on behalf of children in dif-f iculty, Carrefour organises “Les Boucles du Cœur” cha-rity event every year since 2011. Th roughou t F rance , each store supports the association suggested at a national level or a local organisation of their choice. The store then invites its customers to participate in events such as raffles, athletic challenges, cake sales and so on, and to contribute either at checkout, online on the Car-refour website, by purchasing shared-profit products, or by expressing their support on the social networks.

In 2014, through the participation of over 30,000 people, €1.4 million was raised for the benefi t of ELA (European Leukodystrophies Association) and over 200 local non-profi t organisations.

“Kilometres for Solidarity”Spain. As partners of La Vuelta, the cycling tour of Spain, the Carrefour stores located on the race’s itinerary encouraged their customers and employees to join forces by participating in the “Kilometres for Solidarity” operation. Using bikes set up in the stores, young and old alike pedalled to offer foodstuffs to FESBAL (the Spanish federation of Food Banks), a main partner of Carrefour. For each kilometre covered, a k i lo of food was donated by Carrefour. To encou-rage the amateur cyclists to give their best effort, Carrefour dona-ted a bonus of 10 kilos of food for pedalling 3 kilometres.

This operation resulted in the donation of nearly 150 tonnes of food in 2013.

“Carrefour Arts Festival”Taiwan. The Carrefour Arts Festival has been promoting cooperation between custo-mers and employees since 2003. This multidisciplinary festival, organised in partner-ship with the local authori-ties, features a wide range of cultural activities designed to appeal to the widest possible audience, including concerts, dance or circus performances, and theatre. With the aim of fostering talent and promo-ting ancestral instruments, the Carrefour Taiwan Foundation also supports a variety of edu-cational programmes in the fi elds of culture and sport.

11,000 spectators have had the opportunity to attend a dozen concerts, organised with the help of 200 employees.

Typhoon in the PhilippinesBelgium. Typhoon Haiyan cut a path of destruction across the Philippines in November 2013, taking a heavy toll on human lives and property damage. Carrefour Belgium’s teams pro-vided assistance to the storm victims by partnering with SOS Children’s Villages. In addition to a donation, Carrefour mobi-lised its customers to help fund humanitarian aid, emergency accommodation for children as well as the reconstruction of the devastated regions. Thanks to the generosity of Carrefour and its customers, the associa-tion was able to distribute food, water and blankets to affected families and create safe facilities to house the children during the time required to rebuild residen-tial areas.

The association received over €110,000 to help the victims.

Floods in UttarakhandIndia. In June 2013, following the severe weather that caused the death of more than a thou-sand people in the region of Uttarakhand in northern India, Carrefour and its foundation trig-gered emergency aid in conjunc-tion with the Indian authorities in order to obtain information on their needs and assess the logistics situation on the spot. A donation of €100,000 made it possible to react in the fi rst after-math by transporting 250 tons of rice and over 5,000 boxes of non-perishable food, delivered by employees to the emergency teams after twenty-four hours on the road.

A team of 17 volunteers accompanied the convoy of 30 trucks used to transport the goods to the victims.

Cyclone in GalluraItaly. Heavy flooding in the wake of cyclone Cleopatra in November 2013 devastated the Gallura region of Sardinia. In just a few days, “solidarity col-lection spots” were set up by employees in the hypermarkets of Quartu Sant’Elena, Sassari and San Sperate, in coopera-tion with the Caritas Founda-tion, to encourage customers to donate food products to pro-vide immediate assistance to affected families.

Over 2 tonnes of foodstuffs were collected thanks to the generosity of customers and the mobilisation of Carrefour employees.
