Pastor’s Corner Do you remember that youthful enthusiasm of an approaching birthday? For many of us, it has been years since we were excited for such a day, but our Church is every ancient and ever new. We should and do still get excited about the birthday of the Church. We’ll celebrate it next Sunday at Pentecost. And we are praying each day this week to be open to the coming of the Holy Spirit.

So many are wondering when we’ll finally be able to come back to Church again. At this time, our best guess for being able to return to public Masses is June 26th. I sure don’t like that the governor has decided that religious services should wait until Phase 4, but we’re trying to take the time to come up with our plans for returning well.

Even when we do get to return, Bishop LaValley has promised to withhold the obligation to attend Sunday Mass until he consults with his advisors in the health department to make certain that things are as reasonably safe for our most vulnerable parishion-ers.

We did get good news last week, as we applied for and were granted a Payroll Protection Grant. As a result, not only our teachers and essential workers, but all of our hourly employees are back to fulltime. We’re trying to be creative with what work to have them doing—but there is no shortage from painting to organizing and filing, to planning new programs for the parish. We’re very blessed.

Speaking of those blessings, thank you for sharing them. Again this week, our collection surpassed that of the same week last year. I am inspired by your continued generosity.

This week Bishop LaValley concludes our Trust Truth series on Wednesday, May 27th as he shares with us ways to grow in our relationship with the Lord in these trying days of quarantine.

Easter blessings to you all! Come, Holy Spirit!

—Fr. Bryan Stitt

Drive-Thru Confessions Now by appointment Confessions are still available. They con-tinue to be heard in the alley between the chapel and the church. Please call ahead to make an appointment. Then drive up to the purple window. Also now, all confessions are being heard behind the screen for added “social distancing.” (Of course, as always, if there is more than one person in the car, we’d ask people to step out for a mo-ment. ) CALL (315)386-2543 ext 5.

There is no need to give your name.

Trust Truth Presenter, Wednesdays at 8:00 PM:

Most Rev. Terry R. LaValley, Bishop of Ogdensburg May 27th

Novena for Pentecost Starting May 21

The novena in honor of the Holy Spirit is the oldest of all novenas since it was first made at the direction of Our Lord when He sent His apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost. Addressed to the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, it is a power-ful plea for the light and strength and love so sorely needed by every Christian.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Diocesan COVID-19 Information Updates:

“The Diocese of Ogdensburg is actively following the directive of the county public health departments to ensure that all diocesan parishes, schools, ministries, and charities are responding appro-priately to the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). For up to date diocesan resources, live-streamed Masses, and other information related to the Coronavirus Pandemic, please visit www.rcdony.org/covid-19.” Let us continue to pray that we are soon able to join together again in the celebration of Mass, in person and with one another.

Food for the Hungry Given the stress and uncertainty of the times we are in, the need for food and support has never been more urgent. The Church and Community Program is being faced with unprecedented re-quests for help. Here at St. Mary’s, the food collection boxes will remain at all of the entrances to the church. Please consider addi-tional food donations if your own situation allows. If you are una-ble to make a donation, won’t you remember your neighbors in your prayer?

We’re at the corner of Main and Riverside. To help keep everyone safe during this virus crisis, we’ve changed our method of distrib-uting food. It’s fast and easy. Come to the parking lot in back and knock on the inside door so we know you’re here. We’ll sign you in and prepare a big box of food while you wait in your car.

HOURS: Noon-3pm Wed at Main Street and Riverside, Canton

Noon-2pm Thurs at United Methodist Church, DeKalb

You can only go twice a month total, but you have two days to choose from.

Plan to join us on Saturday, August 15th!

You might know that our St. Mary’s is under the patroness of Our Lady of the Assumption whose Feast day is August 15. This annual celebration is a chance for us to come together for a wonder-ful celebration. This year we will add to the hon-

ors that we give our Blessed Mother, the honor and joy of 90 years of great Catholic Education at St. Mary’s.

Need a little more structure to your day? Join us in praying with Church each day. Join us on the parish Facebook page at 8:15 and 5:15 each day (except Sunday morning when we’re getting ready for Mass!)

To pray along if you don’t have the book, you still have 2 options: download the app or go to our website (Liturgy—>Liturgy of the

Hours). The website is definitely the path of least resistance, but it’s also the clunkiest way to go if you’re trying to stream the prayer on Facebook on one panel and follow the text on the other side. (However, a lot of people who have 2 screens on their com-puter find it an easy way to go.) The app is best for people who have 2 devices. This way they can watch on their computer and use the app on their phone/tablet. The app can be found at the App store under the name “iBreviary."
