We specialize in studying fish abundance and migration, fish passage, and the effects of environmental changes on aquatic populations. Established in the United States in 2006, we have two offices in California and have worked in the Mekong River Basin since 2009. A staff of local and U.S. experts works from our international office based in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The primary goal of FISHBIO’s international work is to draw on our company’s extensive technical expertise and tools to build local scientific capacity. Our past and current Mekong projects include a study of aquatic resource use in the Nam Kading River, Lao PDR (including surveys of fisheries, household consumption, and market sales); fish marking to evaluate Fish Conservation Zones; and fish satellite tagging. We have also helped develop the Mekong Fish Network (www.mekongfishnetwork.org), and our partners in the Mekong River Basin have grown rapidly to include local universities, local government agencies, and international non-governmental organizations.
