The Dalton Community Recreation Association(CRA) is a private non-profit organization that providesrecreational, social, cultural and educational services for people of all ages in the Central Berkshire RegionalSchool District and neighboring towns, working out of our two facilities: the Dalton Youth Center and the W. Murray Crane Community House.

In 1908, W. Murray Crane funded the construction of the Dalton Youth Center (DYC) and requested theconstruction of the community house in his will. The house opened in 1923 and has been continuouslyoperational ever since, delivering quality programsthrough the organization known as the Dalton CRA.

A strong sense of communityToday, the CRA offers approximately 100 programs tothe youth and adults of Berkshire County, making it a community house in the truest sense of the word. We place a strong emphasis on children and families, delivering after-school care, sports and a wide variety of enrichment programs to our community, including an after-school program atCraneville ElementarySchool and the DYC.

The CRA offers severalprograms for teens, includingour Big Buddies program andthe Leaders Club. Throughthese programs, we prepareour youth for life after highschool by teaching them tobe responsible, caring andcivic-minded young adults.

Fun, health and wellnessWe offer many types of sports programs, all focusing on building teamwork, good sportsmanship, healthyexercise and fun. Every season offers a choice of sportsincluding soccer, football, cheerleading, basketball, lacrosse, softball and baseball.

Our community house offers a fitness center, indoorpool, basketball court, racquetball courts and meetingrooms for various functions. The CRA also offers pro-grams for families: from outdoor movies to seasonalevents such as the fishing derby, Easter egg hunt,Halloween parade and visits with Santa.

None of this would be possible without the CRA’smost valued asset: our 1,200 volunteers. Time after timethey step forward to provide whatever is needed to makethe programs successful.
