Preview of Next Sunday’s Readings Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 16, 2017 First reading: Isaiah 55:10-11 Second reading: Romans 8:18-23 Gospel: Matthew 13:1-23 A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah Thus says the LORD: Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; my word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it. A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans Brothers and sisters: I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us. For creation awaits with eager expectation the revelation of the children of God; for creation was made subject to futility, not of its own accord but because of the one who subjected it, in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now; and not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore. And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear."

Religious Education Office Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 9, 2017 Sunday’s Gospel, Matthew 11:25-30, Reflecting in God’s Word By the nature of parenting, we often find ourselves in positions of authority, power, and just being the person who "knows" the answer. But how many times do we learn from our children? They express their understandings of abstract ideas in such simple terms. Pay close attention to your children this week and be quick to point out when they have taught you something or helped you see an old idea in a new way.

Bringing the Gospel Into your Family Share a human interest story from the local newspaper. With the whole family try to determine how the people in the story either understood today's Gospel as they simply acted as a child of God or how they received help from a child of God. Try to recall a time when your family had such an experience.

Question of the Week Children: What burden do you need Jesus to help you carry? Adults: When has Jesus refreshed you when you felt burdened by problems? Pregunta de la semana Niños: ¿Que carga necesitas que Jesus te ayude a llevar? Adultos:¿Cuando te ha refrescado Jesus al sentirte agobiado por problemas?

A REMINDER ABOUT MODESTY As summer is quickly approaching, let us keep in mind to dress appropriately and modestly, when coming to church. As Christians, it is our duty to be an example for others not only in what we wear to church, but also in the manner we conduct ourselves at Holy Mass. Please refrain from chewing gum when in Church. Thank you for your cooperation.

This Sunday, The Parents of Girl Scout Troop 3111 will sponsor the Donut Sale. Next Sunday, The RCIA Program will conduct the Donut Sale. Thank You to all organizations who give so much of their time to support the Donut Sales. Please be sure to stop by and support them!

DID YOU KNOW?

Protect against potential danger Taking a few precautions can help children learn to protect themselves against potential danger and ease parents’ minds. Teach children to memorize their full name, address, and phone number, so they can provide the information to an adult if they are separated from their parents or caregiver. Instruct children to look for a police officer or other “safe” adult (e.g., a store or park employee) if they need assistance. Teach them how and when to dial 9-1-1. For more tips, request the VIRTUS© article “7 Precautions to Take against Kidnapping,” from [email protected] or call (213) 637-7227.

MY SINCERE GRATITUDE From

FR. MICHAEL MEYER As I look back on my seven years at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, I will always remember the many kindnesses extended to me, and that I was accepted with open arms by the wonderful Parishioners of this parish. I hope, in some way, I was able to extend my thankfulness and gratitude to all of you through the years. Fr. John led the way, with great hopes for the future of this parish and he allowed me the privilege of working with so many ministries and allowed me to oversee the liturgy and environment of the church. Fr. John affirmed the work I did in this parish with great enthusiasm and encouragement, for which I will be forever grateful. To everyone who worked on the beautiful reception, all those who attended, the kind words, the gifts and cards…..what more can I say, but “thank you from the bottom of my heart”. Paraphrasing Alice Walker, “Thank you” is the best prayer that anyone can say. It expresses gratitude, humility and understanding”. Thank you for wonderful memories and a farewell reception that will never be forgotten. I will carry all of you in my heart for many, many years to come. May our Good Lord Bless each and everyone of you abundantly.
