Thank you so much for your kind and generous a en on to the talk I gave last week at all Masses asking for your support of our “Forward in Faith” Campaign that we are beginning in order to replace our badly damaged parking lot. Your support is necessary to complete this essen al repair. For those who have already contributed, thank you. If you have already contributed by making a pledge please complete the form on page 8 in order to reserve your commemora ve brick for the Holy Angels Walkway of Remembrance.

S , : “W C .” A er almost thirty years as a priest and one third of that priesthood spent here at Our Lady of the Holy Angels, I always answer without pause, “M .” P ’ M

. That means so many are deprived of the faith and grace that are such a blessing. That also means that fewer are called upon to do more - you are asked to sacrifice more for your faith and your parish. We are all interconnected, we live in a communion of faith, and when members of the family are missing we are all diminished. But you are here. That is a grace.

W - M . I am not placing judgment. I am simply acknowledging a fact. You can see the same reality with your own eyes – every Mass is not overflowing. But the Lord Jesus encourages us, “F

, I ” (Ma hew 18:20).

We welcome as many young people into our faith forma on program as possible because the inclina on of their parents who want to pass on the gi of faith to their children is real and sincere and the witness of our own faith is an important value for them to absorb and find security in. But Mass a endance does not o en follow automa cally, in many cases, with enrollment in faith forma on. That is sad, on many levels, but most of all because the Mass is a mystery of love that a aches us to the eternal and grounds all of us in the good mes and the bad. H , I . I ,

W , – – . T C

“ .” Catholic Schools have closed; without priests like Father Giovanni from other countries – we would have almost no priestly voca ons – one na ve born ci zen of our country, out of nine, was ordained this year and of our priests today, in our diocese, are from other countries. Thank God for them. But what is it in our own experience as church that is not fostering voca ons to the priesthood? On other fronts, people don’t bring their departed to church for funerals, and weddings are few. B ,

, , G – – , . Your faith and commitment, as well as God’s grace, a ract others to this sacred place.

God always keeps alive a spark even in difficult mes: “he does not break the crushed reed or snuff the faltering wick” (Isaiah 42:3). That spark can be a great star of faith – just as our parish is.

I want to present to you some hard truths about the reality of our life here in terms of finances. From the very beginning, I want to tell you empha cally how grateful I am to you for your amazing support and commitment.

O $9,900. T . H ,

Salaries – clergy and laity amount to $383,000 – that is $15,000 every two weeks; Benefits are $181,000 a year; U li es – gas, electric, water are $53,000 a year; Property Insurance is $40,000 a year; Snow Removal cost $13,000 this year; Our yearly diocesan assessment is $107,000 – $13,000 a month; Our monthly required subscrip on of the Beacon, the diocesan newspaper is $1,600.00 –

so please take one – we have to pay for it! Each year we pay $77,000 to the diocese for the cost of the loan we took for the major

repairs to the school building – thanks to your generosity we meet that $6,000 a month payment.

A – – ? $100,000 .

What about the maintenance collec on? This year we constructed a new room in Saint Francis Hall for work on events and storage at a cost of $17,000; par ally replaced the air condi oning in the offices; and used some of it for snow removal. As the impending work on the bell tower and roof is about $14,000 – and so it goes to good use. Thank you.

T I . Around the same me as the emergency repairs on the school building three years ago, I had hoped to be able to repair our parking lot. Regre ably, the cost of the es mates I obtained in 2015 has risen between 10%-15%. It will never get any cheaper to repair the parking lot – the cost, now, is well over $225,000.

There was a minor repair made to the parking lot for around $6,000 two years ago to address the most damaged part. I am embarrassed to tell you that was a bad decision on my part. T

. The area near the elevator and the chapel now becomes like a lake when it rains and floods in the winter and freezes over. It is not safe.

But as vital as safety is, as essen al as the Banyan School and the rental of our property is to our future, that first impression that is made when people come to our parish is not incidental. Repairing a parking lot isn’t simply a construc on issue. I ,

. A parking lot that has holes, cracks and is unsafe does not present a welcoming message to parishioners and visitors alike. We want and need our facili es to be an expression of happiness and joy and welcome to that family new to the neighborhood who is looking for a Church to join. B

, C . W . Now, we need to address

that final exterior piece – our parking lot. With your help, the first impression that everyone will get the moment they pull into our Church grounds is that Our Lady of the Holy Angels is a thriving, ac ve and welcoming Catholic faith community and the jewel of Li le Falls and star of faith in the Diocese of Paterson

that WE know it is.

You will recall that when we prepared to renovate the church it was said, “It will never work.” You will remember that before we built the elevator, it was said, “Impossible.” Look around at this building. Look at that elevator – how many would find it impossible to get into this church building without it. You made it happen. We will meet this challenge as well.

I have no doubt that we will make this happen. No one can do everything but everyone can do something. I $1,200 – $200.00

Every household that makes an investment in this campaign has the opportunity to have a brick engraved with their name, or in memory of departed loved one, and placed at The Holy Angels Walkway of Remembrance that will be placed near our bell tower – which is, by the way, the Na onal Shrine of Our Lady of the Highway. Each brick is a symbol of our faith and the reality that we all form this community with the strength of our faith built on the founda on stone of Christ.

Please know how grateful I am to you for your support and investment in our future. N , . Most of all, I ask for your prayers for the success of this

project and for the security of our future. A , , , , ,

God bless you. Please know of my remembrance of you each me I stand at the altar.

We Are STILL in NEED of Catechists! Our ability to provide effective programming for so many of our children enrolled in our program is only made possible if we have enough volunteers to serve as catechists. Please carefully review the information in the registration letter with regard to our need for Catechists and return the Catechist Volunteer Form that was enclosed in the registration packet to the ministry center ASAP. If you would like more detailed information about becoming a catechist, please contact Trish at [email protected] or leave a message at the Parish Ministry Center 973-256-5200.
