In today’s Gospel Jesus asks, “What is your opinion?” Why do we think our opinion is dogma or fact ? An opinion is only how we perceive a situation or how we feel comfortable doing something. Do not argue over, or become divided by “your opinion.”!

PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY FOR PEACE!On Saturday, October 14th at 12 noon a group of concerned citizens will meet in public squares across the United States to pray the Rosary for peace in our nation and in the world.!

The local Hamden “Rosary for Peace”, led by Father Matt, will take place rain or shine, in front of our own Our Lady of Mount Carmel statue. All are invited and encouraged to at-tend, so please spread the word.!This Public Square Rosary is one of over 20,000 rallies that are expected to take place all across the United States that day to pray for world peace. America is at the historic cross-roads as secularists are trying to push God from public square and God’s beneficial action upon society is being re-jected. Without God where will our leaders get the wisdom to solve problems and handle issues in our everyday lives.!For more information please call 2032489678.!

D"#"$%&$' O*+ R"-&'&.*/ L&1"+23!From: Archbishop Leonard P. Blair!

For four years, the Little Sisters of the Poor and many other

faith!based nonprofit groups have patiently asked the gov-

ernment to do the right thing and let them serve the poor. In

a pluralistic society like ours, people should be free to serve the

common good without compromising their moral or religious con-

victions. The HHS mandate, requiring employers to cover contra-

ceptive and abortion!inducing drugs and devices, has tested this

country’s commitment to a healthy pluralism. Let us pray that in

revising the HHS mandate, religious rights of the Catholic Church

will be safeguarded.

Saint John XXIII Parish 89 Bull Hill Lane in West Haven!

The Vocation office of the Archdiocese of Hartford invites every-one to come and pray for an increase of vocations to the priest-hood in our Archdiocese., celebrated by Father Jeff Gubbiotti, Vocation Director for the Archdiocese. Each Holy Hour begins at 7:00 PM and will be followed by a light “coffee and” reception so we have the chance to meet one another. Please join us !!

Feast Day of the Guardian Angels!!Monday, October 2nd we will be celebrating the Feast Day of the Guardian Angels at the 7:30 and 9:00 AM Masses.Angels are servants and messengers from God. "Angel" in Greek means messenger. In unseen ways the angels help us on our earthly pilgrimage by assisting us in work and study, helping us in temptation and protecting us from physical danger. The idea that each soul has assigned to it a personal guardian angel has been long accepted by the Church and is a truth of our faith. De-votion to the angels is, at base, an expression of faith in God’s enduring love and providential care extended to each person day in and day out. !catholicculture.orgThe pastry 'angel wings' and coffee will be available at the con-clusion of each Mass.!

Journaling and Prayer Workshop! To commemorate Pope Saint John XXIII’s Feast Day we will be offering a workshop entitled, “Journaling and Prayer.” Pope Saint John XXIII was very dedicated to his spiritual exercises and structured prayer life. He began keeping a journal when he was 14 and continued to write notes, resolutions, prayers and personal thoughts up until a few days before his death. In this workshop we will be exploring the use of journaling as a method of prayer as well as a way to record your spiritual experiences. You will learn various techniques that you can easily start to incorporate into your prayer life. We hope that you will join us on Wednesday, October 11th from 7:00 p.m.! 8:30 p.m. at the St. Joan of Arc campus. To register, please call the office at 203!248!0141.!

Scapular Presentation and Investiture!Deacon Ernie Scrivani will be visiting Our Lady of Mount Car-mel on Thursday, October 12th at 7:00 p.m. to give a presenta-tion and investiture of the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Car-mel. On July 16th 1251 the Blessed Mary made this promise to Saint Simon Stock: “Take this Scapular, it shall be a sign of salvation, a protection in danger and a pledge of peace. Whoso-ever dies wearing this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire.” She continues, “Wear the Scapular devoutly and perseveringly. It is my garment. To be clothed in it means you are continually thinking of me, and I in turn, am always thinking of you and helping you to secure eternal life.” Because of her great promis-es to those who wear the Brown Scapular, the scapular spread to the laity as a sign of Marian devotion and consecration, signified by two small square pieces of brown wool cloth connected by cords, with one square resting on the chest and one on the back. The Brown Scapular has been recognized as a source of great graces for those who, living holy lives, wear the Brown Scapular with devotion during life and at the time of death. If you are in-terested in attending and receiving a Scapular, please call the office at 203!248!0141 to register for this special event.

Message from USCCB Committee on National Collections!(USCCB) United States Conference of Catholic Bishops!

The past month has presented us with a seemingly unprecedented number of natural disasters. The toll on human life, property, livelihoods, and faith communities is immense and the full extent will not be known for some time. Please know that USCCB Office of National Collections has set up funds for these disasters to receive any contributions you wish to make. Contributed funds will be used to support the reconstruc-tion and pastoral needs of the Church, as well as humanitarian and recovery assistance through Catholic Charities and Catholic Relief Services. If you are able, please direct contributions, and make checks paya-ble to Catholic Charities USA and/or Catholic Relief Service. We will forward your contributions to USCCB.
