Pasto
r’s Letter
Dear Parishioners:
As you know, President Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States. I thought
you might like to read about some “fun facts” about some of our past presidents.
William Henry Harrison gave the longest inaugural address; it lasted over 100 minutes. He did it in
a freezing rain and died of pneumonia a month later! Another reason why I try to keep my homilies
under 10 minutes!
William Howard Taft had the snowiest inauguration. A blizzard dropped almost 10 inches of snow
and the inauguration actually took place on March 4, not January 20 as is done today. Taft reportedly
remarked, “I always knew it would be a cold day in hell when I became President.”
George Washington initially refused his salary but eventually relented. His salary was $25,000.
Former Presidents John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on the same day: July 4, 1826.
James Madison was the shortest President (5ft 4 in) and Abraham Lincoln was the tallest President
(6 ft. 4 in.)
Martin Van Buren (1837 – 1841) was the first President to be born an American citizen; all
previous presidents had been born British citizens.
John Tyler (1841 – 1845) has 15 children, the record for a President!
Grover Cleveland is considered the 22nd and 24th President because he was elected to two
non-consecutive terms (1885 – 1889 and 1893 – 1897).
The most common religious affiliation among the Presidents has been Episcopalian, followed by
Presbyterian.
Four Presidents were assassinated in office (Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Kennedy) while
assassination attempts were also made upon Jackson, T. Roosevelt, F. Roosevelt, Truman, Nixon,
Ford, Carter, Regan, G.W.H. Bush, Clinton and G.W. Bush.
Kennedy and Taft are the only Presidents buried in Arlington cemetery.
Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God.
In Christ,
Fr. Brian
PS: As we may recall, the Parish had a 50 – 50 raffle. We had the drawing after the 12:30pm
Mass. Our winners were:
FIRST PRIZE: $ 2,345 Joanne Maher
SECOND PRIZE: $ 670 Charlphine Lanigan
THIRD PRIZE: $ 335 Vinny Ammirati

Gabriel’s Courage Perinatal Support Program
Gabriel’s Courage is a family centered program for families who
receive a life-limiting prenatal diagnosis during their pregnancy. The
program offers a multidisciplinary team approach to care and support
throughout pregnancy, birth and post birth. Gabriel’s Courage is a pro-
gram of Catholic Health Services and Good Shepherd Hospice. This pro-
gram offers hope, affirms life and provides an opportunity for the family
to welcome their baby, as well as assisting in saying goodbye. Gabriel’s
Courage is seeking financial support to continue this important program.
If you are interested in making a donation to Gabriel’s Courage, please
contact Good Shepherd Hospice Development Office at 631.465.6350.
At times, infant burial can be challenging financially. Gabriel’s Courage seeks to honor the lives
of these babies and support parents in their wishes to bury their child. A burial is the last act of parent-
ing for some of our families. We ask that you consider donating resources for burials which could in-
clude financial support or donation of an available grave. If you are interested in making a donation,
please contact Peter Ryan, Director of Catholic Cemeteries, at 516.334.7990, Ext. 109. Thank you for
your support of this special program and the recipients in its care.

Who Am I to Judge? Discussing moral issues with family and friends can be a challenge in a
culture that strongly promotes the idea that there is no objective truth.
Speaking from a wealth of personal experience, renowned author and
theologian Dr. Edward Sri provides 5 “keys” to enable Christians to
oppose with logic and love what Pope Benedict XVI called the
“dictatorship of relativism.” He also clarifies the proper understanding of
what it means to judge, and the importance of making good judgments.

Mission for the Week
Sing the song, “This Little Light of Mine.”
Something to Draw
Draw a picture of Jesus bringing light and love into a dark world.
Prayer
Dear God, thank you that, with Jesus, I don’t need to be afraid.
Sharing the Gospel Today’s Gospel talks about people living in darkness. When you think about darkness, you may also think about stumbling, falling, or even being afraid. That’s what your life could be like without God. You could stumble around trying to find love or happiness, but without God you will only fall. Jesus brings light into a dark, unhappy world. With Jesus, you no long-er need to fall, and you don’t need to be afraid. God loves you.
