When Pope Francis spoke to the United States Congress in September of 2015 hequoted Jesus as heurged them to follow the Golden Rule: Treat other people the way you want to be treated (Matthew 7:12). As we hear the rancorous discord in our country; as we find ourselves dividing into factions; as we struggle with endemic racism;as people fleeing war, violence and persecution elsewhere seek refuge at our borders; as income gaps in our society widen, are we protecting the unalienable, Godgiven rights of all people? Are we treating every person as we want to be treated? “We hold these truths to be selfevident, that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienablerights, thatamong these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” These words are a cause of celebration, a responsibility, and a call to action. Dear Friends,��This week we will celebrate the Fourth of July, Independence Day.� As we enjoy relaxing�with family and friends�outside in summer weather, let us�also�take some time to reflect upon the founding values of our country.� �In the Declaration of Independence of July 4, 1776, we read “We hold these Truths to be self�evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are �endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable�Rights, that�among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”� These founding values of our�country�coincide�well with our Catholic teaching about the God�given dignity and value of each and every human being.� This is the ground of our pro�life advocacy for every person from womb to natural death.��How are we as a nation living up to the principles announced in the Declaration of �Independence?� Do we really believe that all people are created equal and endowed by God with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?� When Pope Francis spoke to the United States Congress in September of 2015 he�quoted Jesus as he�urged them to follow the Golden Rule:� Treat other people the way you want to be treated (Matthew 7:12).� As we hear the rancorous discord in our country; as we find ourselves dividing into factions; as we struggle with endemic racism;�as people fleeing war, violence and persecution elsewhere seek refuge at our borders; as income gaps in our society widen, are we protecting the unalienable, God�given rights of all people?� Are we treating every person as we want to be treated?��

Have you ever considered being a Catechist? �What does it mean to be a Catechist?��We will always�need teachers to help guide the chil-dren of our parish as they grow in their faith.�But what does being a Catechist really mean? If we were to outline the duties and requirements of a catechist on a job search website for our elementary Faith For-mation program, we might post the following: �

Often people say to themselves,�“I can’t volunteer for that, I am not qualified to teach!”�

This is simply not true. God chose a nervous speaker, Moses, to guide his people out of Egypt. Jesus chose fisherman, not teachers, to become his disciples. Our faith shows us that, historically, God pulls amazing abilities out of us, even when we are not sure we are capable of meeting expectations.��If you feel the�call to become a Catechist, lis-ten.�Our children can benefit from any one of us who has the desire to share God’s love with his people. ��Our Faith Formation office fully supports all of our cat-echist volunteers. We offer assistance in classroom management, lesson planning, and incorporating cre-ative activities into the classroom.�

We are looking for Catechists and Assistants for the�Faith Formation�classes as well as�Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Come join us and discover how helping others learn about their faith nourishes your own.�

Sacrament of Baptism for little ones: Even before the baby arrives, parents are asked to come to 1 group session, then a follow�

up individual meeting to discuss particulars, answer questions and set a date. The next meeting is 6/23 at SA. After the Baptism are parent gatherings to help you continue to grow in faith as a family. Please call Deacon John at [email protected] or call 473�9656, to register with Bill Rabjohn. Since this is a process, we count on you to plan ahead (call at least 3�6 months ahead) to pre-pare well. We encourage baptism of children during Mass, since this is a Sacrament of Initiation into the Community. ���
