Come and celebrate our hope and promise of new life through Christ Jesus. All are welcome.
Book of Remembrance Our parish Book of Remembrance is available in the vestibule throughout October. You may write the names of beloved family and friends who have gone home to be with our Lord, especially those who have died since last November 1. Sunday’s Readings: First Reading - You shall not oppress an alien, for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt (Exodus 22:20-26). Psalm - I love you, Lord, my strength (Psalm 18). Second Reading - You became imitators of the Lord, so that you became a model for all believers (1 Thessalonians 1:5c-10). Gospel - You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:34-40). BALANCE Today’s scriptures emphasize the fundamental link between love of God and love of our neighbors, especially those who are most in need. Love of God should compel us to love the people whom God cherishes. Conversely, work for justice and charity for those in need should be rooted in our love of God. That connection and balance, however, isn’t always easy to maintain in our lives. Even in religious orders we find that some Christians are more oriented toward contemplation and prayer, while others are more active in reaching out to those who are oppressed. Today Jesus reminds us of the necessity for both in the life of faith. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

When at Mass offer the Mass for Vocations by praying the prayer below...
Serra Prayer for Vocations O God, who wills not the death of a sinner * but rather that he be converted and live * grant we beseech you * through the intercession of the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin * Saint Joseph, her spouse * St. Junipero Serra * and all the saints * an increase of laborers for your Church * fellow laborers with Christ to spend and consume themselves for souls * through the same Jesus Christ * Your Son * Who lives and reigns with You * In the unity of the Holy Spirit * God forever * and ever. Amen.
Members of the 31 Club agree to go to daily Mass on a particular day every month and offer that Mass for an increase of vocations to the Church. There is a great need for vocations in the Church today. One of the best ways to increase vocations is through prayer, and the greatest prayer we have is the holy sacrifice of the Mass. Upcoming Mass commitments: Oct. 29: Linda M., Richard M. Oct. 30: Bethann D., Linda D., Julie M., James S. Oct. 31: Jim Z. Nov. 1: Maxine R., Mark S., Evelyn V., Pat B. Nov. 2: Kathy W., Deacon Dennis K. Nov. 3: Sister Peggy, Linda D., Wilma M., Virginia S. Nov. 4: Arlene B. If you would like to join the OLP 31 Club, please call Dave or Kathy Wayman at 454-8974. There are no dues and no meetings, only opportunities for grace and the satisfaction that comes from helping to fulfill a great need in the Church.
OLP 31 Club Praying for vocations every day of the year!
OUR LADY OF PEACE CHURCH ERIE, PA
A Family Perspective In today’s gospel the Pharisee was talking about
commandments, and Jesus was talking about love. One demands allegiance, the other requires personal commitment. In our families we daily lay down our
lives for each other not because we have to, but because love compels us to make sacrifices.

October is Mental Illness Awareness Month Fourth in a series of what our faith community can do to minister to those with mental illness and their families. The dignity of the individual is foremost in our belief that we are all created in the image and likeness of God. Our language should reflect that belief. When talking about mental illness, we need to use “people first language.” We refer to people as the persons they are, not the disease they have. So, we say “a person who has mental illness” or “a man or woman with a mental illness.” We avoid referring to people using terms like “the mentally ill” or “the depressed.” As people of compassion and justice, we should never use stigmatizing language or demeaning terms. Careful use of language is more than being “politically correct.” It is a way of communicating that people with mental illness, as Pope John Paul II said, “have the inalienable right not only to be considered as an image of God and, therefore, as a person, but also to be treated as such.” For more information, please contact the Diocese of Erie’s Persons with Disabilities Office at: 814-824-1257 or [email protected]
