A Note From The Pastor… Some #me ago, I men#oned in my column about Illinois House
Bill HB40. This Bill would use tax dollars to pay for taking the life of
a child in the womb through an abor#on. On April 25th, the Illinois
House passed the Bill (by a Vote of 62-55) which authorizes taxpayer
money to pay for elec#ve abor#ons for Medicaid recipients and
state employees.
Fortunately, Governor Rauner has announced that he will veto
the Bill. Cardinal Cupich released a statement thanking the
Governor, adding: “Abor!on is a controversial issue in this country,
but using public money to provide abor!ons should not be.”
As we are on this topic, and while it is true that Pope Francis has
said in the past that “it is not necessary to talk about these issues
[abor!on, gay marriage, contracep!on] all the !me,” recently
(April 12th), Pope Francis referred to the pro-life movement as the most important work on earth.
In his own words: “You are doing the best possible work!”, and “Save as many lives as possible!
I encourage you and bless you with every blessing. There is no more important work from this
one, be persistent and pray, pray, pray!”
Illinois House Bill HB40 is another example of Religious Freedom under a%ack, and more
generally, freedom of conscience. A January 2017 Poll, shows that 61% of Americans oppose
taxpayer funding of abor#on. Further, 40% of people who self-iden#fy as pro-choice also are
opposing such funding. I think a majority of Americans see what’s at stake here: You shouldn’t
force people to violate their conscience.
Now Illinois House Bill HB40 moves to the Senate. Once again, I ask you to contact your State
Representa#ve, and ask him or her to vote ‘NO’ on HB40. If you need assistance in determining
the name of your lawmaker, or in sending a message to him or her, go to www.ilcatholic.org. You
can also use this link to determine who your Representa#ve is, and then contact him or her:
h%ps://openstates.org/.
Please note that Bishop Rassas will celebrate Confirma#on Mass next Saturday, May 13th, at
2PM. Therefore, I have no choice but to move Confessions on that day to 8:30AM to 9:30AM.
There will not be any Confessions from 3:30PM to 4:30PM next Saturday, May 13th. Also Next
Weekend: our Christ First Teens will be selling Right to Life Roses a-er all of the Masses. We will
have our Annual Catholic Chari#es Collec#on that weekend as well.
As this Sunday is Good Shepherd Sunday, I ask all of us to pray for voca#ons to the priesthood.
One thing is certain: There are many young men who are being called to the priesthood who are
not answering the call. Let us also con#nue to pray for our First Communicants, and those
preparing for Confirma#on.
God Bless,
Fr. Paul

Eucharis#c Adora#on
Drawing Closer To
Jesus The best kind of friend is
the one with whom you can spend
#me without having to say anything.
You can just share the moment, and
enjoy each other’s company, knowing
your rela#onship is deeper than the
spoken word.
That kind of silent communica#on is
what takes place between you and
Jesus when you par#cipate in
Eucharis#c Adora#on.
Eucharis#c Adora#on is the spiritual
prac#ce of spending #me in the
presence of the exposed Host.
Eucharis#c Adora#on provides us
with a chance to be with our Savior
one on one. Through this prac#ce, we
are invited to spend #me alone with
God in His real, physical form, and to
bring to Jesus all of our prayers, cares,
concerns, hopes, and thoughts. We
set aside a special #me, a break from
our hec#c modern lives, to create a
personal space in which to meet our
God.
By doing so, we grow more in tune
with God. We put ourselves in
posi#on to talk to Him, and also to
listen. We reserve a #me and a space
when we ask Jesus to come into our
hearts and minds, and when we walk
away, we are transformed.
Even the most holy people we can
think of have found blessings, grace,
and strength in Eucharis#c Adora#on.
“Jesus has made Himself the Bread
of Life to give us life,” Mother Teresa
once said. “Night and day, He is there.
If you really want to grow in love,
come back to the Eucharist, come back
to that Adora!on.”
Do something special this Easter
season, please consider coming to
Eucharis#c Adora#on on Thursdays at
1PM. Come, spend some #me with
the Lord, and receive His blessings! He
is wai#ng for you!
