STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK OF MAY 10 / REFLEXIÓN DE LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD PARA LA SEMANA DEL 10 DE MAYO[INSERT GRAPHIC]“This I command you: love one another.” Note that in this direct quote from today’s Gospel that the Lord does not offer this as a sug-gestion nor as an option. It is a command. He reinforces this several times in Holy Scripture as He offers it as one of the two most important commandments. If we make an effort to genuinely love one another, we will have gone a long way to living out discipleship and stewardship. It is appropriate on this Sixth Sunday of Easter when we celebrate Mothers’ Day throughout the United States that our readings are filled with the message of love. The love of a mother is one of the great blessings anyone can receive. We should have no difficulty on this day letting our mothers — in fact, all those women who have provided support and forgiveness to us — know that we love them.If loving one another is one of the hallmarks of stewardship as a way of life, showing that love to our mothers, and for mothers, showing and expressing their love to their children is paramount on this day. As Christ said in today’s Gospel, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s love for one’s friends.” Mothers do that constantly, sacrificing so much for their children. We are blessed; let the “mothers” in our lives know that they are a blessing.

6TH SUNDAY OF EASTER / 6º DOMINGO DE PASCUA 3

He is Risen! He is Risen indeed! (It’s still Easter Season until Pentecost) Milestones are important in life. They mark accomplishments and time trav-eled. We celebrate anniversaries and birthdays. Some take on more sig-nificance than others, for example a 25th wedding anniversary or 50th birthday. I’m coming up on my 25th anniversary to the priesthood (in a few years) and my 50th birthday is quickly fading in the rearview mirror. But I passed an interesting milestone last week. I looked down and the odometer in my car read 200,005. That’s a lot of miles. I was thinking of the places I’ve been with my car. I’ve been to many places in Southern California: Hollywood; Big Bear; the beaches; Anaheim Stadium. I’ve been further out as well: St. George, Utah; Reno, NV; Bishop, CA; San Francisco. And Vegas baby! And even further: corn fields of Iowa; University of Notre Dame; Brown’s Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio; curves of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I’ve crossed the mighty Mississippi and the mountains of New Mexico. And I’ve also been to hospitals to visit the sick, homes to bless and break bread, churches to celebrate the Eucharist, and cemeteries to bury the dead. Take a moment today and look at your odometer. Reflect on the miles in your own life. Where have you been? Thursday Night Confessions at 7pm: I will definitely be there on May 14 (picnic tables at end of large parking lot near the pier.)God bless you all!Fr. Dónde has estado? Padre Jim

Love remains

Those who remain in Jesus bear fruit and that fruit is love. The fruitful disciple knows Jesus as an intimate friend. The fruitful disciple walks with Jesus and learns from him. She internalizes his teachings until she sees all of creation as God sees it --- until she loves as God loves, without limit or exception. Remaining in Jesus pushes us out beyond ourselves to encounter and love others in whom God also abides.1. What or who helps you to love others as

Christ commanded?2. What inhibits you from loving others?Take a moment to revisit this Sunday’s readings [Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-49; 1 Jn 4:7-10; Jn 15:9-17] or view them online at http://usccb.org/bible/readings/051015.cfm

Miracle of Life: Month 1Week 1 Today I was conceived in my mother’s womb. If you could see into my chromosomes, you could tell if I am a boy or a girl. I am very, very tiny, because my body has only one cell. As tiny as I am, my single-celled body contains DNA in my 46

human chromosomes and 20,000 to 25,000 protein-coding genes.Week 3 At 17 days, I have my own blood cells, which may be a different blood type than my Mom’s. By the end of this week, my heart will be beating.Week 4 I have 40 pairs of muscles that have developed along the trunk of my body. My arms and legs are forming. I am about one-quarter inch long.Prayer O Lord, “Truly you have formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I give you thanks for I am fearfully, won-derfully made; wonderful are your works.” (Ps 139)

What is Transitional Kindergarten?Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is the first year of a two-year kinder-garten program. It provides a bridge between preschool and tradition-al kindergarten in a warm and nurturing learning environment that is developmentally appropriate within a bright and cheery atmosphere. Entry age for TK is four years old by September 1, as it is specifically designed to give four year old children and “young five” year old children the gift of time to develop socially and cognitively in order to ensure success in kindergarten.TK offers a modified kindergarten hands-on active curriculum aimed to develop children’s intellectual, social, and emotional skills. It is an ideal choice for children who need a little more time to adjust to the demands of a long school day and schedule, as well as those who just miss the age cut-off for kindergarten. Please contact Kris Windes at [email protected] or 492-7320 to enroll or learn more.

Enroll Now!OLF Parish School offers Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade. If you are considering an excellent Catholic school experience for your child or children, please contact Kris Windes at [email protected] or 492-7320 to learn more about our implementation of 21st century learning opportunities. Parents are encouraged to observe the TK classroom in action and perspective students are encourage to shadow in the classroom.
